I’m actually surprised. Of the six MFY fans I’ve texted “F Jeter” to this morning, four aren’t thrilled. They were enjoying not being “same old Yankees approach” and rooting for the kids.

The price for any power bat the Sox hope to acquire just went up significantly. No way a JDM contract doesn't begin with a '2' now.

This sucks. Why doesn’t baseball just make the Marlins the Yankees official AAA team. It’d be more honest. Surprised they didn’t throw in Yelich.

Source: Stanton from #Marlins to #Yankees is “virtually done.” Close to finish line. Hear #Marlins will get at least Starlin Castro plus good but not top prospects if completed. Again physical review can still be part of this so nothing final, but close.

I'm sorry, but how do the Marlins accept Castro (who is fine, nothing special but fine) and "good but not top" prospects? Stanton, even with his contract, should have commanded TOP prospects. Is there ANY chance the Red Sox could have swung this deal without using their top prospects? Zero.

Possible lineup...

Pos Player - 2017 stats
CF Gardner - 21 hr, .264/350/.428/.778, 104 ops+
LF Judge - 52 hr, .284/.422/.627/1.049, 171 ops+
RF Stanton - 59 hr, .281/.376/.631/1.007, 165 ops+
C Sanchez - 33 hr, .278/.345/.531/.876, 126 ops+
SS Gregorius - 25 hr, .287/.318/.478/.796, 106 ops+
1b Bird - 9 hr, .190/.288/.422/.710, 84 ops+ (but he should be much better in 2018)
DH Hicks - 15 hr, .266/.372/.475/.847, 122 ops+
3b Headley - 12 hr, .273/.352/.406/.758, 100 ops+
2b Torreyes - 3 hr, .292/.314/.375/.689, 81 ops+

That is one hell of a lineup. Barring injury, they'll hit a million home runs. Let's just hope their pitching falls apart.

Well, let's see who the prospects are first, I don't see any real reports yet about that, but NY's system is so loaded that their 10-20 guys are a lot better than most. This tweet sums up things nicely:

I’d say Stanton trade is less about Jeter doing #Yankees favor than vice versa. #Marlins were desperate and left to Stanton’s mercy.

Please explain how this trade drives up the price for Martinez. Also, if you didn't think his annual contract demand did not already start at $20 million, then you're delusional.

[I wonder what not top prospects mean. I bet McKinney goes, someone the Marlins can put on the field right away.
McKinney and Cave are 7th and 8th on the OF depth chart now, so one of them could certainly go. There were rumors last night that Miguel Andujar was part of it, and hopefully that's not true because with Torres now pretty definitely at 2B, they need Andujar at 3B behind Headley.

I think he meant that the first number in the total dollar amount will be a 2. As in...total contract is now $200 million or so.

Maybe like 6 years, $200 million ($33.3 million per year). That seems pretty high, but he may as well ask for that much to start with.

Also if Castro is the only vet in the deal as reported, we'll see if NY is really taking on the entire Stanton contract. I think that might be a bigger hit this year than they wanted (Stanton's $25M AAV minus Castro's $8m).

The best case scenario for our pursuit of JDM was that a Stanton trade would remove one of his suitors, reducing demand. This doesn’t do that.

If i's not TOP prospects, it should be the NY taking Stanton contract and part of Castro's too.
This simply isn't true, SF wasn't taking the whole deal and later reports say that the top prospects rumored to be in that deal weren't actually in that deal.

As has been said about this all along even before the Yankees were involved, the acquiring cost in talent would be low because the contract is so big. This is the only reason NY got involved, a perfect storm for them.

Pretty cool when a 60-HR mvp gets traded for an overrated MLB player and prospects who are years away from making it.

It's the only way the deal can be spun as NYY doing Jeter a favor instead of the other way around.

Stanton named four teams who he would agree to be traded to, and the other three didn't seem to have much interest at all.

Sorry - the '2' refereed to the value of the total contract, as in $200 million plus.

The Red Sox *need* JDM now - no way they can spin lesser bats as a response to Stanton in pinstripes. Various posters were theorizing that Boras's demand for a $200 million could be negotiated down. No way that happens now (if there ever was a chance, which seemed to be wishful thinking IMO).

So that Jeter can repay them for being grossly overpaid for his last 8 years with the MFYs?
Do Intangibles mean nothing to you? The man out of his way to dive headfirst into the stands for them. He admitted to actually living in the city for whom he played so hard for, eventually.
