Excited for the adventures of a Eric Dier/Joe Rodan CB pairing.

Lee Dixon thinks Kane is too old to make a move to a top club and that he's past his peak, as he currently sits atop the EPL in goals scored and assists.

This Spurs setup, with Ndombele and Lo Celso in central midfield and Reguilon on the left, and playing a higher press, is so much more fun and interesting than Mou's favored low block and a glimple of what a potentially really good Spurs team could be. I'm not sure it will ultimately work today b/c the defense still looks vulnerable (Reguilon geting left on an island against Rashford is a risk, and the CB pairing does not inspire confidence), but Spurs are taking the initiative and controlling the flow of the game.

Truly psychotic punditry.
His "strategy" of "leave lots of players to attack at corners because the other team will have to keep defenders back to deal with them and so they'll have no one to score from the corner" was equally inane.

We need to reinstate the fairness doctrine so Arlo White is forced to rotate an ex-Spurs right back in that color spot

setting aside classifying Lingard as excellent, if the NBA has taught us anything, it’s that salary caps create strange incentives for players which results in things like winning, location, and marketing opportunities leading to the creation of super teams. The NFL has largely avoided this with their larger rosters and the NBA has the extremely perverse max contract but I don’t think the football world would get what it wants with salary caps.

In reality I think luxury taxes have proven most effective. FFP has been a disaster at what it was supposedly trying to accomplishand in the end it’s just discouraging spending but the spending is inevitable. Probably the best that can be done is to force big spending teams to pay a surcharge and distribute that money to lower leagues.
But it probably never should happen in football. This is partially why the big teams keep trying to form their own league. Owners like Henry of course want to close the shop because it’s the only way they can enforce rules like this. If they tried doing it in England they’d just ignore it in Spain and Spanish teams would continue to inflate the market while complaining everyone else is doing it and we’d go back to the days of wondering which Spanish giant will win everything
Well, FFP has been a disaster because it’s more or less unenforceable at the super club level. And one could argue it has been a success given its real purpose was to prevent another Chelsea or City joining the ranks.

I don’t see a salary cap doing much , if anything to suppress the spending of state owned clubs ( or mega clubs in general). It would be just the cost of doing business. But, of course they are the most adept at bending (if not cheating) the existing FFP.

Fucking bullshit.
What’s the difference between what Lo Celso did and what Mctominay did, except lo celso also catches Rashfords leg?

should be 1-0 up. Instead 1-0 down.

They were both fouls that should have been called. Only one got VARed because it led directly to a goal.

The Athletic had a really good article on the Kane-Spurs relationship and how difficult it will be for a Harry to force a move. The primary obstacle being Haaland Mbappe also being on the market. They are years younger and far more attractive to the two or three teams that could conceivably afford them.

Mind you I don’t see anyone ponying up the fee that Mbappe will garner. Haaland maybe.

Disagree. Son goes to grab Mctominay’s arm to hold him back. Mctominay throws his arm out to deflect and catches son in the face.

he hit him. No doubt. But context matters.

glad to see Son recover though. Heart of a lion, that guy.

I mean, sure, but it's still foul if you hit a guy in the face, even if you do it by accident while trying to escape from grabbing and hand fighting. That might be a good reason it's not a booking, since there was no malice or intent.

Key now for Spurs is not to sit on the lead but to keep pressing high and holding possession. Offense is the best form of defense, it keeps United's attackers away from the fragile back line.

Jose brings on another holding midfielder to jazz things up.

Sissoko is so useless. He' a black hole in possession (nobody will pass to him), he's stationery on defense, he doesn't press, he doesn't make tackles or interceptions.

Mou has done exactly what everyone knew he would do in the second half: sit back and try to play on the counter, make defensive substitutions, take off the best passers.

Now it's Lamela for Ndombele. So Jose started with two good passing midfielders who were controlling the game, and now he's taken them both off. Watch United turn up the press the last 15 minutes. A United winner is inevitable now.

Nostradamus speaks. Well done.

Jeezo Cavani really wanted on the score sheet today.

At least they could use the money from the Kane sale to buyout Jose.

Guessing the worst possible European placing would be the new Europa Conference (Or whatever it’s called) . Not much prize money, no path to the CL .. and tons of useless fixture congestion.
The only Europa Conference place that England gets its for winning the League Cup, although I would assume if the winner of the League Cup also qualifies for the Europa League or the Champions League that the place would go to the highest premier league team that hasn't qualified for Europe.

So .. if Spurs beat City to win the League Cup .. or City wins (in the CL) .. then Spurs are in the Europa Conference? ( and they don’t finish 5th or 6th)

If Spurs win the league cup, they will have a place in the Europa Conference, unless they finish high enough in the league to grab a CL or Europa place. If City win the league cup, the conference place will go to the highest league place without a CL or Europa spot (cup runner-up gets nothing).

So right now, Premier League positions 1-4 get CL places, position 5 gets a Europa place. FA Cup winner gets a Europa place, and League Cup winner gets a conference place.

If FA Cup winner gets a European place through their league position, then 6th place will get that Europa place. If League Cup winner gets a European place through their league position then 6th place will get that Conference place. If both the FA Cup winner and the League Cup winner get European places through their league positions then 6th place willet the Europa spot and 7th place will get the Conference spot. (There would also be changes of English teams win CL and Europa)

Disappointed. Came here for the Arsenal supporters complaining about that win.
