Been some close ones the past few minutes.

Grealish is so good. His teammates defer to him like he’s the best player on a youth team.

Newcastle - Southamption is a fun match in the rain. Minameno with a top shelf finish after almost losing his balance in the box.

I was moderately annoyed at Minamino being loaned out with Origi sticking around.

I am officially pretty annoyed - that was a great finish

Almiron earns that goal with a great press and a powerful finish.

So, after an arguable denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity by Bednarek on Almiron (not called thankfully for my fantasy squad), Schar does his knee on the subsequent free kick, taken off on a stretcher with Newcastle having already used all 3 subs.

Last 15 minutes or so should be 11-9 with a Newcastle 4-4-0 - of Newcastle's remaining 8 outfield players, Almiron / Willock / Joelinton account for 3.

A merciful point for a clearly tired Brighton at Burnley. Three steps slow to every ball today. Adam Webster left in the second half with a lower leg injury of some kind. Danny Welbeck played the last 30 minutes, his return after six weeks out.

Now THAT was a Newcastle match. Had everything but a mine strike.

Minamino with a helluva blast. Paging @SocrManiac
Pretty goal, and exactly why they loaned him out. If he comes back as a useful piece, I’ll be super happy.

I don’t understand the comparisons with Origi (who has been ineffective as well). It’s not Minamino vs. Origi. Minamino was brought in to plug in as a member of the front three or at the top of the midfield. For whatever reason, he’s been unable to work out his place in the squad. He’s not finding the right positions, passes, spacing, or consistently contributing defensively. His teammates will see him in their passing pattern and actively choose a different option. It’s not subtle.

The club changes tactics around Origi. One can question if Origi is the right fit or if the different look suits the squad (and one should), but it’s not like they could have loaned or sold him off and used Minamino in the same role.

Mike Dean with VAR is like giving a toddler some fireworks and a lighter. Ridiculous.

Dean saw it in real time and decided against even a booking and was ready to re-take the free kick. Lee Mason called him over to the monitor, and after rewatching it 15 times in slow motion, Dean opted for the red card.

They are both so, so bad. I don't see how it's possible that a couple of refs from the Championship couldn't do any better

edit: according to the Sky postmatch, Mason directed Dean to the monitor because of Soucek's "clenched fist"... good grief

Only 5’ at Old Trafford but fun game. Leeds-Everton was 90 minutes of end to end action and this is the same. Flying around

After the goal Everton have bogged down, no clear way forward and DCL isn’t getting touches

Pogba coming off with the dreaded non contact injury. Quad or groin? Looks painful
