Damn, Son just loves scoring against City.

It does feel like Spurs just copied the plan Jose used against City in the past.

Some key differences to my eyes.

1.If you’re gonna ask your team to do that much committed defending, it is wise to do fitness training. Game one and the defending was more aggressive and less last-ditch than I recall it being under Jose.

2. The defending started higher in the midfield with Nuno’s setup. I think this helped in a few ways. It put less pressure on Dier and Sanchez generally, and it also meant that when they turned City over, they could start the counters higher up the field more often compared to Jose-ball where they’d regain possession closer to their 18 and often get counterpressed or hoof it, losing possession and staying penned it. That helped them get more shots than the typical Jose bunker gave them and helped the defending seem less like a desperate assault until a defender screwed up, even if possession stats were similar.

+1. Big props to Japh too for betting on himself, rejecting the loan, getting the start, and playing extremely well. I'll take other COYMFS!!! thoughts to the Spurs thread.

Ah yes. The annual City loss where their fans lament lack of depth and signings.
In my defense, I lament who they choose to sign. They just keep adding pieces so Pep can finally play his preferred 1-0-11-0 lineup where they dominate possession, miss chances, and get countered into oblivion.

If City get 12 players on top of everything else, Pep should really be able to dominate.

Duh, that's what I get for multi-tasking. Wouldn't surprise me if Pep tried to turn Ederson into an attacking midfielder though.

watching The Analysis Show on Peacock's 24/7 PL channel, and they had a stat of how the Ake-Mendy pairing has two wins out of six starts.
Sunday's match reminded me of the Wolves win vs City in the 19-20 season: lot of pressure and pushing on the counter
