If Dombrowski wanted to be 100% honest, he would get up on the podium, be blunt and state that the Sox are simply not good enough to have any serious playoff/WS aspirations, and that the focus of fall moves between now and Trading Deadline and beyond will be focused upon next season and beyond.
In essence all he would be doing is telling the truth to any real Sox fan who is not a dreamer and who lives in the world of reality rather than in one of fantasy!!
How would Dombrowski making a statement like this help the organization in any way?

Well, if you're going blow up a team 3.5 games out of a playoff spot in July, you might as well go all the way

Not much hope left, but if anyone's looking for some, the last time they went to the Trop after a rough stretch that included losing games to the Orioles they swept the Rays there.

Today is a perfect example of why the fact the Sox lead the majors in so many offensive categories means NOTHING.
In lots of games including last night the Sox fattened these stats with lots of meaningless runs, hits. etc.
What good are all of the latter when they get embarrassed and shutout by a nothing pitcher today, all of which means that the bottom line/all that counts, is that they lost two of three to this POS team this weekend.
Stuff like this has occurred way too often this season, and is a big reason why for all intents and purposes, the Sox are on the outside looking in with not much reason for hope at this point.

I'm pretty sure Von Paulus tried this in January of 1943 when he was the acting commander of the surrounded German 6th Army at Stalingrad.

It didn't turn out well for him in retrospect.

10 days is a long time when you are playing only the the two teams in front of you in a tough AL East. No chance now of catching the MFY's. Let's see how it goes and then make some tough decisions on roster management. No time to panic. An absolute ugly game, look ahead and go get it.
