For years they will talk about how Nathan Horton's mere presence inspired the Bruins to victory.

I usually enjoy relaxing with the Red Sox. I can pop a beer, listen to Don and Jerry, and before I know it I'm up too late.
Today it's broken.

I am not joking about this.

I've been looking for my other Bruins shirt (I have a Lucic one as well) but I haven't been able to find it for months. I've looked everywhere, in every drawer (hence emptying my dresser), in my closet, everywhere.

I'm packing for a trip to California right now and I know I'm going to need every pocket in my bag. I open up this one small section that I never really use and sure enough... it's in there. And it smells awful. I just hand-washed it and threw it in the dryer. Should be done by 8:20ish.

This has to be a sign, right? That I found this shirt 20 minutes before the start of Game 7?

I am also somewhere in between a bandwagoner and a diehard.

I have been to exactly one Bruins game. It was in the 1998-99 season. Before the game, Johnny Bucyk and Ken Jorge were signing autographs and I had no idea why my mom was so freaking shaking. She grew up watching the B's and Sox on a tiny TV in Stoughton with her dad and brother. My highest level of comprehension was that those guys were her Jason Allison and Ray Bourque, and after seeing those guys; after seeing real hockey in person, I understood. As for the game itself, we beat the Lightning 3-2; they scored 2 quickies then we scored one in each period to win. Afterwards, they let people skate on the ice and I used my red sticker-level skating ability learned from recent lessons at the MDC to keep up with my dad, uncle, and hockey-playing cousin. When I got home, I immediately wrote a detailed, illustrated entry in my kindergarten journal.

I've never been able to skate like that since then. With the rise of the Patriots and the perpetual draw of my first love, baseball, not to mention Allison's downfall and departure, my love of the B's waned a bit, though I was still devastated when we were upset by Montreal as the 1 seed (as you can see in my amateur sports journalism enterprise/rant on our old Windows 95 machine, "Great Sports Day in Boston Ruined by Bruins"). The lockout was the last straw, though. How a pro sports league could have such self-importance as to let an entire season go imposter was beyond me. The NHL by then was the laughingstock of my mind. Plus, the Sox won and it was the best day of my life. I was 11.

I vaguely remember hearing about names like Paul Mara and Dave Lewis, but even when Big Z came I didn't give a shit. Until Game 6. Until Marco Sturm scored what is, to this day, the coolest goal I have ever seen to put away those tools. In typical fashion, we lost Game 7 by 5, but damn, at least I cared. I watched every second and I was too high from the game before and from giddy optimism to get too down. Since then, I have cried after Carolina, screamed after Carolina II: The Shorties, and and cried some more. But mostly I have laughed, from reading RMPS and from fleecing Toronto, from seeing Looch obliterate Komisarek and the whole team obliterate anyone who challenges them physically, and recently, watching Timmy and Marshmont buffoon Thelma and Louise.

I graduated high school last week. Today I was looking through that kindergarten journal, I spent hours working on my mom's childhood home, and I am currently looking at the autographs of Bucyk and Hodge framed on my wall.

Win or lose, I am back for life. But lose, and evil will have prevailed. Win, and the universe will be a better place.

Win.

At some point this summer, Tim Thomas is going to grab a lawn chair, a the head cover for a Big Bertha driver, and the Stanley Cup, which he will fill with pucks. He will then drive to Roberto Luongo's house. There he will pass the day sitting naked (except for the head cover, which will be protecting his majestic wang from the summer sun) on Bobby's lawn, peppering his front door with wristers. And it will be glorious. Score three and then run somebody.

I don't have much to add, other than this run has been thrilling. I feel like we are all on the precipice of a lifetime caliber great moment.

As I sit here waiting more memories are coming flooding back. Like my brother making sure to take me to the Garden before they tore it down. I vividly remember sitting in our seats just awed by it. Then my brother said "come with me" and we went a little further down and out from underneath the overhang. He stopped and said, "Look up."

That is the first and only time that I basked in the rafters of the Boston Garden. I stayed there for has to be 10 minutes, just studying every piece of history hanging down, not saying a word. And my brother waited patiently and he smiled and put his arm around me as we went back to our seats.

Win it for my brother, who has always waited patiently for me and smiled.
Win it for my Dad, who taught me how to understand and watch hockey ("Watch the play, not the puck") and who has a much better seat now than any of us.
Win it for Cam.
Win it.

Since I inherited the Red Sox fandom from the family, but came to love the Bruins on my own (the same time I first watched hockey, in May of 1970 on CBS), it should be only fitting to make my first SOSH entry here...

For all the reasons on the previous 28 pages...

WIN...

I moved from New Hampshire back in 2003, and quite honestly fell away from the B's as hockey wasn't really available.

Today I sit in SC working for a Canadian company. I started following the B's again last year, and started following them a bit more this year. The playoff run has awakened my joy for the game.

I wore an old B's shirt to work Friday and caught a ton of crap from all of the Canadians in the building (strict dress code...don't care).

I wore my old ratty Joe Thorton jersey today and caught half the crap as Friday (fear),

What I have discovered is that the Canadians in our plant that actually follow hockey HATE the Canucks for being *insert reference to female anatomy here*, while the 'I have to like hockey because I am Canadian' fans act like they care.

My applause to all of the die hards that have kept this part of SoSH wonderful over the years. Cheers to Y'all (SC term) realizing the dream tonight *chug*.

As for the B's... It is time.

Finish them.

I usually only post in the running forum and lurk in RMPS. The stories in this thread have been great. I'll just add a short one. I moved away from Savin Hill when I was 5 and had to keep the love for Boston sports alive growing up in Yankee country. When I met my wife, in 9th grade, the only reason I had the guts to go talk to her was the Bruins jersey she was wearing. Turned out she was a Sox fan too.

Apropos of nothing: Wonder who Bobby LaLonde is rooting for? He played for both the Cafucks and the B's.

One last time. Right here, right now. Get it done boys.

Don't wanna wait 'til tomorrow
Why put it off another day?
One by one, little problems
Build up, and stand in our way. Oh

One step ahead, one step behind it
Now ya gotta run to get even
Make future plans I'll dream about yesterday, hey!
Come on turn, turn this thing around

(Right now) Hey! It's your tomorrow
(Right now) Come on, it's everything
(Right now) Catch your magic moment
Do it right here and now
It means everything

I am also somewhere in between a bandwagoner and a diehard.
To thread the difference, Ive been calling myself a "late bloomer". Parents didn't care for hockey growing up, went to college in the Midwest, got hooked in on the Montreal series in 2007, discovered RMPS game threads in 07-08, singlehandedly de-railed Wheeler's ROY chances with an ill-timed t-shirt purchase, figured out what the cycle was, and been hooked ever since.

I owe every single RMPS regular a beer for A) their role in the above tale, and B) putting up with the fact that only 25% of my game thread posts actually have anything to do with hockey.

Couch: none (Brighton beer Garden stool)
Food: None.
Flip Channel: None.

Drop this fucking puck.

I abandoned the Bruins after '02 when they had the best record in the East and lost to Montreal in 6. I thought they would never win a Cup in my lifetime, and I was 12 then. Please win this for 12 year old me.

I live in SF. I've spent the day, nervous, looking for signs from the Hockey Gods that all is well. This afternoon, coming home from work, I pull up behind an SUV at the red light. Said SUV had a old license plate frame with a faded logo. I looked closer, yep, the logo was from the Boston Red Sox WS 2004. It was a sign.

Win.

I don't have a stanley cup to not touch but I do have the remains of a bottle of jwblue that I won on a bet with a yankees fan in 04. I only drink from it after championships. It is taunting me...good luck everyone.

Hey guys.. not to derail this too much, but I was just at a crowded bar, and this smokeshow (like a 6 or 7*) walked by me, and my hand accidentally went out and brushed against her ass. Do you think she was flirting with me?

*When you look like me, you take what you can get. She was wearing a B's jersey though

Thank you all for this thread. It is truly amazing what this community brings to us that no longer live in New England and cannot experience the community of fellow fans with our friends or co workers. This too is my first post ever in this forum, but I certainly have been following along with the die hards. Win it for them. Go Bruins!

Hey Doc, it's been six games, maybe seven will be the charm that allows you to differentiate between numbers and players.
