I have an autographed Orr jersey that I've never worn, but I think tonight I'm going to break it out. Sacrilgeous or appropriate?
Wear it. The Bruins have gotten no bounces in Vancouver, despite playing mostly well. I went bizarro world today, Costanza-style. Tuna salad on toast night bitches!

Sit down, strap in, and get ready for the ballsiest ride in fucking years!

Bruschi on handling a hostile crowd:
RapSheet
It’s something that former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi had dealt with more than a few times in his career. During his camp yesterday, he offered the Bruins some advice on how to handle it.

“We sort of enjoyed it,” Bruschi said. “We enjoyed that. You get the insults from the stands and sort of, “This is all we got in the locker room, this is all we need.’ That’s the words we always see. ‘This is all we got, this is all we need.’ Really rally around that at times. Just, the guys in the locker room focused on who you have is always something that we (used). It was always like, ‘Everybody’s against us, everybody doesn’t think we can do it. So, let’s just shove it in their faces, anyway.’ That’s what we always grasped.”

I need to restock on whiskey, so I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a half pint of Johnny Walker Blue. And then not tell anyone about it until after the game.

WIN. Just win.

Well, might as well give up my posting virginity now.

Win this one for the only other Bruins fan at my redneck high school in Maryland. I hadn't said a word to the guy until a couple of weeks ago when i saw him in a Chara jersey. Since then, we've had some great Bruins related conversations, and our friendship has grown to the point where I decided to ask him for his name yesterday. Baby steps. Anyways, he's a cool dude and I'd like to think he lurks the hell out of these boards like I do. School's out and I won't get to rant with him about the outcome, so if you're reading this Matt, (was it Mike?) consider this a shout-out. 39 years is longer than both of us have been alive, combined. That's too fucking long.

Also, win it for my little brother, who's 9 years old. I was 9 when the Sox won in '04, and like him, couldn't stay up for most of the games. Right now he's playing NHL 09 on an old ps2, and I just heard the cbc announcer say "its over...the Bruins won this game." Hopefully it's a sign.

It's been a hell of a run, hard to think the season ends tonight. I'll be rocking a ratty Thimas t-shirt, my Lucic jersey, and socks from the Boston Bowl in Dorchester. That's where we watched game 7 of the Tampa series, because we were visiting for Memorial Day weekend and my cousins don't have Versus and wouldn't take me to a bar (not being 21 sucks).

*URI, I am absolutely trolling for membership

Drinking has just begun.

Ahh...that's more like it, the cool taste of a hard-earned summer beer.

Feeling relaxed now.

Surely more so than the Summers Eve Twins some 3,000 miles away, chewing their fingernails in their locker room stalls awaiting their total destruction.

It's time. No more "good games," no more "we did our best," no more "have a good game." It is time for only VICTORY. It's time to hit them so hard that generations yet unborn will cry out in anguish!

I have three distinctive memories of the last Cup era.

The first is walking out of Boston Garden with my Dad after the Bruins beat the Blackhawks in the semi-finals. "Bring on the Blues" some old timer yelled, and everyone starting chanting along with him.

The second was being in the car as the family drove down to New York for some event with the radio on. Some nobody named Ken Dryden stood on his head, knocked the Bs out of the playoffs and put us all in sad shock.

The third was the joy I felt seeing the Bs beat the Rangers for their second Cup in three years.

That was, of course, the Bobby Orr era, and I've never loved an athlete in any sport like I loved him. Seeing that guy rag the puck and kill penalties by himself viturally...I've never seen anyone even try that. I've never had the choice of uniform numbers in any sport when I didn't choose number 4.

I have one distinctive memory of the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals. I went to game one -- the 3OT/"screw you Klima and Wesley" game -- with my brother. The same brother who I went to game 3 of these finals with last Monday.

Which brings us to this current Cup era. My youngest son, an 11-year old, is completely infatuated with the Bs. He's been a Michael Ryder guy all season. He just loves Ryder and wears his Ryder jersey constantly. He's also a manic Boston sports fan living in the NY area, which means he takes a lot of shit when things go wrong. Someone joked in the "Win it for" thread about kids who haven't really experienced Boston titles and he's actually one of them. What I mean is that he was just barely old enough to appreciate sports when the Cs won it all in 2008. Now it's totally different in that he fully understands what's going on, is able to make insightful comments, reads the sports section as his first act of every day and truly lives and dies with our four Boston teams.

So I'm watching the game tonight with him. I thought briefly about going to one of the Boston themed bars in Manhattan with the client I took to Game 6 of this very series but, in the end, it's a very easy "Father/Son" decision to watch it with him. An absolute no-brainer, really.

Maybe one day he'll write about his first Cup and having seen it with the guy who never stopped talking about Bobby Orr.

Last, as much as I want this title, and feel substantially more invested than I ever imagined I would be at age 48 in such a thing, I realize that a lot of the reason for that is tied to him. I want him to have it as a Boston sports fan living where he does; I want it because it will be his first championship with true sports fan awareness; and I want, most of all, to share a title with him.

This a brilliant fucking idea. Now I'm scared if I go to the liquor store I'm going to buy a stupidly expensive scotch. Check that, I'm going and now the only question is how ridiculous to go.

I am neither a bandwagon jumper or a lifelong. Somewhere in between

Baseball was always my biggest sport. Got into hockey when a friend moved across the street from me in Rhode Island when I was 10. He came from the Boston area and hockey ran in his family. We would play street hockey and NHL video games on his playstation. I was obsessed but we couldn't afford for me to play. I still followed but not as closely as those first few years.

Then I came to college in Boston in 2005. Not really knowing anybody me and my roommate bonded over endless games of NHL. When the season started up coming out of the lockout they were practically giving tickets away to students. So we must have gone to 10-15 thursday games. The team wasn't great but it was something to do and I fell back in love with hockey. I've been following religiously ever since.

Been lurking these boards for the past couple of seasons and VERY closely this season especially. Never posted before because I didn't think I understood the game as much as most of you. But hopefully next season and into the future. WIN tonight

DVRing the CBC replay of the game as well as the NBC game. I'll either watch it over and over or never even look at it.

Go B's.

Well They won’t back down, no They won’t back down
You can stand them up at the gates of hell
But they won’t back down

Gonna stand their ground, won’t be turned around
And They will keep this world from draggin’ them down
Gonna stand their ground and they won’t back down

Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out
Hey We will stand our ground
And We won’t back down.

Well We know what’s right, We got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ us around
But They'll stand their ground and they won’t back down

Hey baby there ain’t no easy way out
Hey We will stand our ground
And We won’t back down
No, We won’t back down

Go Bruins!!

We're down to 125 viewers. If it stays above 100, I like our chances.
Whenever people say that I instantly think of the St Louis Ram on the sidelines of SB 36 shouting "I told you I like our chances!"

Anyways, get it done tonight and may a few bounces go our way.

I've been reading along with the lurkers all day at work. I rarely post as I can't reach the eloquence of the regulars and, when I try, I write run-on sentences.

My "why am I a fan" story isn't glamorous. It's pathetic. I had a traumatic event at a young age that led to a television being put in my room to lull me to sleep. The two channels I distinctly remember are TV38 and ESPN. I just devoured hockey long past my bedtime. Fred Cusick's voice shouting names like "Ray Bourque," "Bob Sweeney" and "Adam Oates" is forever etched in my memory. Andy Moog was my definition of a goalkeeper, for better or for worse. Tom Mees would rock me to sleep on the ESPN game nights.

A few years later when the lockout happened, hockey faded for me. I ended up burying it along with the memories of the winter I spent sneaking in games while my parents thought I was asleep. The past few years have rekindled the flame, and this year's team officially has me in five alarm mode.

Again, the story is pathetic, but it's mine. This Bruins team has brought back the pleasure buried in a very dark time of my life- something that truly helped me through. Win or lose, I'm absolutely back.

Just win.

I'm also not a bandwagoner nor a diehard. Grew up on Neely, Bourque, Moog, Oates, etc and loved that 1990 team with all my heart. As I got older, I sort of fell out of love with hockey (and more with baseball). Then went to university in Canada and since I was Mr Super Boston Sports Fan to all my friends, I had to take on the Bruins as well again. And with so many friends who were fans of the Habs, it happened quite naturally. For those five years I was once again a Bruins diehard. For the last seven years I've been following the Bruins (especially in games against the Habs) but not with the same ferocity as I did in Canada but I've always kept up on trades, players and reading RMPS (but mostly lurking). I'm what you'd call a "second season" fan, I guess. I love playoff hockey with all my heart and hold it only second to playoff baseball. I've been completely caught up with this team since the start of the playoffs again (and I've loved them all year, but this playoff run has been insane) and I would like nothing more than I see the B's hold the Cup above their heads.

Alright gents, I'm leaving the office, heading to the liquor store, getting some fine (read: over $30 a bottle) celebratory scotch, and preparing to witness history. I'm probably not gamethreading because it would just be keyboard mashing on my part and plus, I'm a wreck.

People have mentioned how a Bruins championship would be different than any other we've been fortunate enough to see lately. Let me tell you why. The Pats in 03 and 04, the Celts, and both Sox champs were meant to win. Either by virtue of assembling an unstoppable roster paired with phenomenal coaching or by smarty deploying their financial advantage, those teams were stacked against all others. Sure they had potential foils like the Yankees and Lakers, but those teams had a sense of inevitability around them. The 01 Pats? They came out of nowhere and were led by another Thomas.

Not these guys. They are the essence of team. They had serious struggles at points this season and has experienced a lot of history together. They have their flaws. But, at the end of the day, they're the fucking shit. They cannot be stopped. They will not be stopped.

Savard and Horton.

I'm coming to Boston on Friday morning for the first time in 6 months for father's day weekend and would love nothing more than to see a parade with him, my friends, and all of you.

See you all on the other side.

Protect the Civic. Win.

Just got some beer from the store. Was tempted to get champagne, but last time I did that was Game 7 of the 2008 ALCS. Needless to say, I didn't do that this time. Gotta keep the mojo going and not screw around.

Plenty of time to pick up that champagne tomorrow to go along with a big Cuban cigar, or Dominican one if your American.

Two things.

1) Last night I had a dream that the Bruins scored first on a penalty shot. No joke.

2) I've been studying Wills for the Bar Exam all day. In what is either the subtlest or lamest possible "sign", I just noticed the gigantic key-ring thing (it's a 5 x 7 metal plate) they gave me for my private study room is black and gold. Usually they are red or blue.
