As happy as I am that the Bruins won, I am almost as happy that the Canucks didn't. They would have been one of the most undeserving champions I've ever seen. The Bruins represented all of hockey tonight.
Agreed, that was a hateable team and it was supremely satisfying to beat them.

The Boston Bruins are Stanley Cup Champions! (I just wanted to type that.) Thanks to the B's for their hard work, hard hitting and great play. Thanks too for making tonight a great and undoubtedly long-lasting memory for my ten-year-old son and me. A fact that, as many on this board know well, would have been true win or lose, but ... it's always better to win!

Thanks also for confirming in no small way that it indeed shouldn't, and thankfully more often than not doesn't, pay to be whining Nancy-boys like the Vancouver Canucks of 2010-2011. I am sure once my euphoria subsides I will empathize with many long-time Vancouver fans, but never for the players, who almost to a man deservedly earned their shame.

Thanks again to the Boston Bruins, Stanley Cup Champions!

163 goals in 82 games(incl playoffs) for Thimas. 1.99 GAA. 2,671 shots faced. .939 SV%

Are you kidding me?
A lot of credit to Chara and Seidenberg, too.

Holy shit, who knew Seidenberg was so fucking good btw? He was the team's best defenseman for the playoffs. He was the best defenseman in the entire playoffs.

Congrats Pron Stache denizens. You are fans of the motherfucking Stanley Cup Champs. And thanks for letting some of us rejoin the B's without too much grief. Hopefully you will take comfort in a brilliant post-season and the fact that, at least here, the only prices I will be driving up will be for Thimas and Marchand jerseys (that little nosey, fucker should never have to buy a meal in Boston again).

Oh yeah...almost forgot. The fucking Civic looks great!

Shocking but true. I know they wouldn't give the Conn Smythe to a non-scoring defenseman but his ascension to legit 1A D-man in these playoffs was probably the biggest change from the regular season that contributed to this amazing run. Especially with McQuaid and Boychuk regressing a bit. They needed every ounce of what Seidenberg gave. What a tough motherfucker he proved himself to be.

I didn't know Brad Marchand had a lisp. Opposing players must absolutely HATE that guy.

I think it was on HF but Kirk pretty much nailed Marchand several months ago when he said he's not a guy that will carry a team offensively on a first line or whatever but he is the kind of player who would score the triple OT winner in the SCF. He was fucking nails tonight.
I guess Marchand joins the Boston Pantheon of "little short guys who kick ass", Pedroia, Welker, Rondo(he's 'NBA short') and now Marchand. There is a really awesome commercial in there somewhere.

Felger on now, saying Luongo sucked lol.
We would have killed Thomas if he let in that Bergeron shortie. And Marchand's wraparound was almost karma.

I stayed up. I wasn't going to demand it...so I waited. Just a beautiful site.
So true. Seeing the "Wall of 16" was kind of daunting at first, but it's very sweet now to see those numerals all in grey, with the yellow completely gone (presumably transferred to Luongo's undies and the souls of the Sedins).

Gentlemen and ladies of RMPS,

It was a pleasure posting with you these past few years. TFP, PSK, TSC, Haunted (I believe you owe Claude an apology), FL4WL3SS (you fat asshole), cshea, kenneycb, Terras, Realness, SJH, EJ, goyang, slidingsideways, Manzivino, Ed Hillel, Smailsy (SMAILSY), Blacken, NYCSox, catomatic, AMchgie and on and on and on. I couldn't imagine a more entertaining group to share this amazing season with. We laughed, we cried (well, I didn't but some of you pussies did (yes I did I am a pussy too)), we made movie references, we posted about beer, we talked about fucking each other's moms. It's been a hell of a ride (especially your mom FL4W). And now we are here. Victorious. Carried there on the backs of a German, a giant, two geriatrics, two gingers, a midget and a concussive Frenchman with iron in his veins.

Feels good, doesn't it?

Yeah, real good.

See you at the parade motherfuckers.

This was the best night of my life. I watched the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup. All is right with the world. Thanks to all the RMPS regulars that shared this.

I'm already jacked up for the draft and then free agency. This is still a team on the way up.
Guys on the playoff roster under contract or RFA for next season (Ages are for the 2011-2012 season) - Krejci 25, Bergeron 26, Horton 26, Marchand 23, Kelly 30, Lucic 23, Peverley 29, Ference 32, Chara 34, Boychuk 27, Seidenberg 30, Seguin 19, Paille 27, McQuaid 24, Campbell 27, Thornton 34, Thomas 37, Rask 24. That doesn't include Kampfer, Bartkowski, Caron, Sauve, Knight, Spooner, Arniel, a bunch of other prospects, the 9th and 40th picks in next week's draft, and enough cap space to sign a top 4 d-man or re-sign Kaberle if they think a full offseason will integrate him better (and his pricetag probably dropped sharply the last two months). This organization has the potential for a long run of legitimate Cup contention.

Note on 98.5 - first shutout in SCF Game 7. EDIT: I don't think that's right, maybe first road shutout in a Game 7?

While it would have been nice and easy to see them steamroll their way through the whole playoffs like they did against Philly, winning it like this with three game 7 wins makes it taste that much sweeter. We've all seen how goddamn hard it is to win a single playoff series, even for teams that were statistically superior to this one and heavy favorites before blowing it. The NHL playoffs are just such a wild animal. Both of these teams were one OT goal away from getting sent home in the first round by inferior opponents. So much can go wrong over the long haul of the playoffs that it feels impossible that the Bruins were able to accomplish this. I shudder to think of the emptiness I would have felt if they had lost after making it this far. To support the only team left standing...it's really hard to put into words.

My dad took me to me to my first Bruins game when I was 4 years old. It was at the original Boston Garden. My one memory was that I got frustrated because every time the Bruins got a scoring chance, everyone stood up and I couldn't see what was going on. I remember Terry O'Reilly, and Steve Kasper... might have been his first goal for the Bruins.

My family moved to Vermont, and we managed to see the Bruins on grainy black and white "Hockey Night in Canada" broadcasts. It seemed like we played the Canadiens all the time... and the Canadiens always won.

University of Vermont hockey was big at that time. John LeClair... Martin St Louis... and Tim Thomas. The thing I remember most was the intro they used to show to the UVM games on tv... U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name". Totally fired me up.

I had a brief hockey renaissance in late high school and college, where I followed Bourque and the Bruins, and had my heart broken. I did manage to wear my Bourque jersey to a playoff game against the Hurricanes in Raleigh, and escaped without bodily harm when the Bruins won.

My dad passed away in 2003. His birthday was June 14th, Flag Day. To have the Bruins win the Stanley Cup final behind Tim Thomas close to Flag Day seems like a full circle moment in my life. What a great time for fans of sports in Boston.

So part of my job is to fit the re-airs of these games into tidy 2 or 3 hour formats for the NHL Network. We were trying to get as much postgame in as possible and I had to bleep out 4 f-bombs from Bruins players when they were passing around the cup, 2 of them by Recchi. Pretty funny.

If you guys want to watch the game and some of the postgame again today, check NHL Network if you have it. I think it's airing 4 times, noon (NBC feed) 2pm (CBC feed in a 2-hour condensed format) primetime and midnight (CBC in a 3-hour format, I got all the game action in and most of the postgame, CBC had Cam Neely on, which was pretty cool).

You must be loving your job tonight. Thanks for the hard work; looks like the first replay is scheduled to start at 4 AM, I'm looking forward to it.

Wife just yelled down from the bedroom worried that I wasn't in bed at 3:30 with work in the morning. Told her 1) They won the Cup; 2) no work tomorrow; 3) Game starts again at 4 and 4) THEY WON THE CUP. She went back to bed, then called me back two minutes later to tell her the score and how the game played out. I love that woman.

I definitely didn't want to post this earlier but for the last two nights I was having dreams about this game and in every one the Bruins got a big lead and coughed it up. I thought it was real every fucking time. But, strangely, when the Bruins actually did get the big lead tonight I felt almost at peace and I knew in my heart that they had it.

I think it's time for bed. This postseason has been as good as anything I can remember and I'm glad we all got to share it.

Dumb question: is it the Emrick announcing crew? I'll record one of them anyway for more leisurely watching than the original heart attack version. Thanks for the info.

That first ten minutes really was all Canucks; outside of Luongo robbing Krejci the Bruins didn't have any sustained pressure in the offensive zone. The fourth line really turned the tide at the 10 minute mark, spent almost two minutes solid in Vancouver's zone and completely stemmed the onslaught.

Stanley cup champs with the number 9 pick.
Think about how good this team can continue to be. Last year, let's be honest, they should have been at least in the Eastern finals. This year they win the Cup. They have the #9 pick. And look at their list of really good players that are pretty young:

Seguin - 19
Bergeron - 25
Krejci - 25
Lucic - 23
Marchand - 23
Horton - 26
McQuaid - 24
Peverly - 28
Paille - 27
Boychuck - 27
Campbell - 27

The average age of the typical NHL player is just under 29. The Bruins have 17 players under that number, and 11 players over that number. So it would seem that there's a lot of room for this team to get even better.

EDIT: I didn't realize that someone posted essentially this earlier. My bad. After I went to bed last night there were something like 20 more pages added to the thread and I didn't read all of them before I posted.

Amazing.

Thomas at the podium now with the Conn Smythe next to him. Incredible visual. So happy for Timmy; this year will always be remembered as "the year Tim Thomas won us a Cup".
You know the stock phrase, "ride the hot goaltender in the playoffs"....well, there is now a new gold standard to refer to when this phrase is used. Tim Thomas' run this year defines this. Broke all kinds of records in terms of saves and shots faced. In three game 7's he allowed a total of 3 goals (with 2 shutouts). Allowing 8 goals to the most explosive offense in the game. When people talk about riding the hot goaltender, we'll think about Tim Thomas.

Unfortunately it's not quite full. No intermissions and there's a few postgame interviews that didn't make it. All the game action made it. We try to get Don Cherry in there on these 3-hour re-airs, but the postgame celebrations were obviously more important. He picks Vancouver in the pre-game, though, and that made it.

I don't think the program guide indicates it, but the re-airs are as follows:

12pm NBC
2pm CBC
8pm CBC (3-hours)
12am CBC (3-hours)

I would imagine at some point the entire series will re-air on the network so be on the lookout.
