Should Horton be drinking with post-concussion syndrome? Fuck it I don't think it counts when it comes out of the Stanley Cup THEY WON.

I hate that Tim Thomas feels that even if he starts the season off poorly next year that he will get disrespected and harassed by fans. :(

I'm going to town on a bottle of Cook's right now. It's disgusting. But it's a tradition since the 2004 Red Sox.

I hope to drink some more Cook's in the Fall.

So I wonder what the questions at the State of the Bruins will be next year? I know I'm asking about TV's in the bathroom.

I posted this before Game 6. I have never been so confident of anything related to Boston sports, even the Pats at their heights, than this. I am an old school Sox fatalist. But there was no way they were losing this series. Thanks to the regulars here. I am nothing but a mere lurker. What a great ride this team and all of you have given us.

----

I am not that old, but at least old enough to have seen a long litany of dirty, cowardly, shit-talking fuckwads skate around the ice and call themselves professional hockey players. I have seen MIke Foligno do a stupid jump after every piddly garbage goal he ever scored. I have seen Claude Lemieux and his Ozarkish mug do unspeakable things and smile toothlessly afterwards. I have seen Ulf Samuelsson basically end my hockey hero's sterling career. I have seen Mario Tremblay stick a guy and run away. I saw Gord Donnelly knee Willie Plett's head into the fucking ice, for fuck's sake.

But this Vancouver team is the most despicable band of phony, craven, classless assholes encountered in over three and half decades of watching my beloved Bruins. They are all those players named above and then some. They are a team of cowards, as opposed to a team that plays a coward every third shift. They are a team that cannot resist every urge that children are coached not to indulge.

We, on the other hand, root for the Bruins, who this year have carried themselves with class, played with intensity, and fought with courage in the face of gutless antagonism. And I am certain that our team will win on Monday. And then our team will win back in British Columbia. And then those cowards will have to line up, shake hands with men who far exceed them in quality and in classiness, and then, and only then, will they be contrite. And nobody, including myself, will give two shits what they feel.

Go Bruins. Win Monday. Then bring it home.

-------

They did.

The Boston Bruins are Stanley Cup Champs for the first time in 39 years.
Things haven't felt this good since a couple of October nights in 2004.

When I moved to Boston in 1967, one of my first questions was "Who's this Orr guy people keep talking about?" No athlete in any sport has ever captivated me as much as #4 did & those teams made me a hockey fan. When I moved away, I lost touch with the B's and Sox but the wonders of the Internet & increased TV coverage has allowed me to re-connect with my teams. The Sox never really went away but last year & this have really rekindled my hockey interest.

Congrats especially to all you real die-hard fans in RMPS. You are the tru fans, through thick & thin and I couldn't be happier for you.

The Boston Bruins are Stanley Cup Champs for the first time in 39 years. Has a nice ring to it.

how fucking cool was it of the B's to let their extra skaters dress for the cup ceremony? Is this typical? Amazing. Class all around in this organization.

The streets of Barre, VT are safe tonight, unlike Vancouver.

Any reports from Boston?
About 200 staties waiting in the Fens waiting to charge on Fenway if things got bad. All the streets within 3 blocks were shut down to non-local cars. No rioting or looting or anything. Just some random fireworks and a whole lot of drunk chicks.

Example conversation as I was walking home:

Me: Wow, that girl is drunk.
Fiancee: How can you tell?
Me: cause she can't walk straight.
Fiancee: She's walking ok, how can you say that she's drunk?
(girl in Lucic Shirt projectile vomits on a police car)
Fiancee: Right, she's drunk.

The Penguins did it in 2009 but yeah it's something that's cool to see.

From the Vancouver Sun:

• BY THE NUMBERS: The Bruins are the only team in Cup history to win three Game 7's in one playoff year ... The Bruins also became only the fourth team in Cup history win a Game 7 on the road. The three other teams to win a Game 7 away from home were the 1945 Maple Leafs, the 1971 Habs and the 2009 Penguins ... Canucks captain Henrik Sedin and brother Daniel were on the ice for all four Boston goals. Henrik finished the playoffs a gruesome minus-11... Canuck defenceman Christian Ehrhoff was minus-2 on Wednesday and wound up minus-13 in the playoffs after being plus-19 during the regular season.

• TIM NOT TINY: Bruins netminder Tim Thomas set a record for most saves in the playoffs with 798, surpassing Kirk McLean's mark of 761 established during the Canucks' 1994 run to the final. He also set a new mark for most shots faced with 849. McLean held the former record as well at 820.

• SAVE OF THE GAME: With the Bruins leading 1-0 in the second, Alex Burrows appeared to have a wide open net after faking Thomas out of position. However, Bruins captain Zdeno Chara slipped in behind Thomas and made the save. A Burrows goal would have evened the score and maybe turned the tide in Vancouver's favour.

• EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND: Injured Canuck winger Mason Raymond. who was in the house wearing a corset to protect his fractured vertebrae, received a standing ovation during a first-period TV timeout.

• DID YOU KNOW? The Canucks did not score a goal in the second period of all seven games and didn't score an even-strength first-period goal in the series. They had just one first-period goal in total, in Game 2, when Alex Burrows scored on the power play.

You know what - fuck Mike Foligno, fuck Claude Lemieux, fuck Ulf Samuelsson, fuck Mario Tremblay, fuck Gord Donnelly, fuck too many men on the ice, fuck Guy Lafleur fuck Ken Dryden, and fuck the Oilers. This is fantastic - I haven't cried about a sporting event in 7 years. I spent way too much on nhl.com and faceofffanatics.com and will spend more tomorrow at Bob's. FUCKING RIGHT!!!!

Tonight, we skated with them. Tonight, we stayed with them, and we SHUT THEM DOWN. Because we can. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.

I know Dirk gave his German blessing to Erhoff but I'd like to picture Dirk and Seids getting together sometime this summer in old Deutschland and celebrating together.
