I hope that team gets savaged by the Rangers. I know that might be an unpopular opinion but I would like a couple of their players run and run hard.
Also, I think we need a new coach. I know he isn’t working with the most talented bunch but the number of stupid errors we make is pretty intolerable.
A fine season. Probably fair value for who we are - so maybe it‘s unfair to Monty to say good bye - but he just seems to be missing something, for me. Or maybe I am just mad in the moment.

A tremendous regular season and a series win feels like enough looking back to September, but it’s hard not to be upset with the last week and a half. Turned into the worst version of themselves at the worst time, arguably had a game stolen by the refs, just a really disappointing end to a good year.
Fuck. The only thing worse than losing to these fuckers is that we didn’t injure Tkachuk and Bennett somewhere along the line.
They didn’t finish, but that’s a good season given who they had. Let’s reload and be ready to go next year.
I suspect that pulling out the Leafs series and the constraints on this year’s cap will save Montgomery, but if anyone’s paying attention upstairs, it’s time to start worrying.

He’s never elevated his game for the playoffs the way you might hope. Not that he turns to total shit or anything (though he has also done that when he’s been hurt) but he tends to look slower, more tentative, less sturdy, too easy to knock off the puck.
That said the talent around him was bad. Of course, it was great in previous years and he looked like this too so…
I was really hoping for Boston vs. New York in the eastern finals in both the NBA and NHL. Oh well.

On the other, you have to cash in your opportunities, and they could have made it to the ECF. Montgomery is yet again bested by career mediocrity Paul Maurice, and his shooting philosophy backfired big time thanks to this team's lack of finesse. The team made a metric shit ton of mental errors, see: Too Many Men. The team got screwed by the officials again and the only thing the Bruins' management can muster is mealy-mouthed mumbling. And lastly star players didn't live up to their potential in the playoffs, but I'll reserve judgment on that until we get the injury report here in a couple days.

Overachieving season, but still a disappointing ending. The priority is getting a number 1 center/top 6 forward and trading Ullmark for another piece. They just don’t have enough goal scoring talent.

One thing I will put on Donnie is that it might be time for a shift in draft strategy. They’ve gone with so many high-floor guys that they can take care of the bottom 6/last pair, but lack the chips that can change games. Maybe Poitras becomes one, but right now, it’s far more likely they’ll miscast him as a 1C when he’s really a 2 or 3.
Start by practicing at the Garden more for the postseason to prepare for the shitty ice instead of the pristine ice at Warrior. Start by ceasing with the ceaseless matchup nonsense and just roll your lines like you do on the road. Simplify your game at home like you do on the road.
It's been a problem for 10+ years now and it's beyond time they changed something.
This was very much a Bruins-of-my-youth team. A team that was surely better than decent, teased you a little and did some nice things, but in the end just didn’t have enough top-end talent to threaten for anything big. Too many Geekies, Zachas, and Coyles (despite his career year) and not enough true 1st and 2nd liners - more 3rd liners who, in a career season, can do some service on a 2nd line.

Momentary lapse in judgment and late in getting to his first spot for the first time all series. Bad goal. Wish Witherspoon closed out a bit more but it’s probably 70/30 Sway if we’re doing blame pie.

Incredibly a pinch ahead in ES xG from what I look at...when considering xPPG and adding that in, small edge Florida. Absolutely ZERO for xG Boston on the man advantage tonight, which matches the eye test.

I do like Swayman. Not sure where you got that from. And he stood on his head in the playoffs.
But that goal was absolutely awful. Not sure what the issue is in pointing that out.
When you have a dearth of scoring talent, you just can’t make the deluge of mental mistakes that this team makes. Shorthanded for 3/4 of a period this playoffs due to bench minors. Brain dead play after brain dead play by the defense in their own zone. Absolutely shit adjustments on the powerplay, and no style flexibility to generate more shots when you don’t have the skill to get the perfect shots. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
The positives from the season are Swayman’s play under pressure in the playoffs and Lohrei’s emergence—and I wanted him moved at the deadline for the right deal. But Pasta didn’t have the impact a player of his stature should—again—and the commitments to McAvoy and Lindholm going forward really worry me. Maybe we can extend Forbort.
