I really thought they were pitching around him with Marisnick up next, kind of have to do that there.

HOU is in pretty good shape for the WS except for maybe Pressly being hurt. Cole/Verlander/Greinke, gonna be some amazing pitching matchups.

Scherzer is maybe the only pitcher that can match Verlander and Cole. And Strasburg is just a half step below, if even.

Now I'm actually hoping Chapman opts out.

Tried to blow the World Series for the Cubs and blew the ALCS for us. Crazy.

Got it to Chapman tied. Your closer blows it, what are you going to do? Good series. Houston deserved it.

If HOU wins the WS, NY will have been eliminated by the WS champions three years ago, hard to get too upset about that IMO.

Happ/Cessa/Ottavino: 5 1 0 0 1 2
Green/Kahnle/Britton/Chapman: 3.2 5 6 6 5 4

That is just stunning.

Pitching to Altuve made perfect sense - Marisnick's chances for a single were over twice as high as Altuve's chances for an extra base hit, not to mention possible walks and passed balls.

condolences gents

all in all the Yankees had a pretty good year
They had a great year, but like last year and the year before, we just haven't broken through against historically great teams. The Yankees lost 4 games, 3 of which were incredibly close and had plays and calls that could have gone either way and completely changed the series.

I can't speak for all fans, but personally? I'm not upset about not making the World Series. I'm upset, like last year, that certain players didn't show up.

That 1960 series must have been insane to live through:

Game 1: 6-4 PIT
Game 2: 16-3 NYY
Game 3: 10-0 NYY
Game 4 3-2 PIT
Game 5 5-2 PIT
Game 6: 12-0 NYY
Game 7: 10-9 PIT

55-27 for NY and a series loss.

You had a great season, crow.

5-0 with Stanton, 0-4 without him. Some curious decisions tonight.

Regarding Chapman, I also wonder if he just wasn't expecting to pitch and was mentally unprepared to be out there. He went from thinking his season was over to having to pitch in 5 minutes.

Thanks @jon abbey.

Agree on the curious decisions. The organization needs to do a thorough review of the roster and the injuries. Was it a fluke year (definitely a little) or do we happen to have a combination of stars who are all going to spend time on the bench every year? Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Hicks, Severino....

Read when you get into better moods.
Congratulations on the fine season, seriously. Even if the team didn't deserve better, you guys did. [ /spoiler]

Amazing season with all the injuries. Houston just made more great plays. Hats off to them, they were the better team.

Should be a fun offseason. The Yankees got a lot of production from unlikely sources. Interesting decisions to be made that could go many different ways.

I've seen a bunch of championships and I appreciate your post. I'm more upset for the team than myself. This is probably the best, culture and personality wise, team that I've ever rooted for. I truly wanted to see Didi and Judge and DJ celebrating and getting one of these under their belt. For me? This was one of the funnest baseball years I remember watching. Next Man Up, the Sox stink again, the Mets had their souls crushed like 9 times, and this forum was fun all year.

I’m confident you guys will be back next year. I’m looking forward to my date with abbey for Rays/Yanks ALCS, Game 3 in the Bronx.

The best team won. There’s no shame in that, but it’s obvious that Cashman’s BP strategy leaves no margin for error and games 2 and 6 are proof of that.

The real question is which of the three East contenders is better equipped moving forward. VORP probably has the most neutral outlook, having set up shop between the two fan bases on SOSH. Good question to ponder in February.

I turned the game off after the top of the ninth ended. Didn’t want to see this group of players lose. Houston was better, and backed it up by making most of the key plays and delivering a few three-run homers.

If the Yankees had used Mike Ford on the playoff roster, he might have replaced EE after maybe the third game of the LCS.

Let Didi walk, move Gleyber to short, DJ to second and platoon at first with Voit and Ford. Give Greg Bird one more chance to stay healthy.

2019 was a lot of fun because of DJ, Gio and Tauchman, to name a few of the players who shaped the identity of this club. Next year is a new year and a different team.
