I just got a call from my friend in Boston who has a ticket for me. It will be the first time I’ve been to a game since COVID hit. this is the same friend that I took to game seven in 2008 against the Cavs, which was one of the best basketball games I ever attended.

The Tatum game tonight remind me of the Paul Pierce game in that game seven when he had to match LeBron.

Reminded me of LeBron in Game 6 2012. Back breaking shot after back breaking shot. He was incredible.

The Bucks have to karmically (is that a word?) pay for completely tanking that regular season finale. I don't get the sense that the Celtics will be fucking around on Sunday, and they will tear the Bucks heart out and then piss all over it for a national audience to see.

I had the same thoughts. PP and LBJ matching each other, with LBJ scoring a lot of points using the same rhinocerous charge tactics as GA.
Best game I have ever attended!

I'm so excited. This is my first game 7 with my kid, who loves Marcus Smart's hair (yknow, because it's green?). We watched the first quarter before she had to go to bed, and now we get to watch the full game together on Sunday... which means she gets to watch Daddy do his "this game is important so I'm going to stomp around and clap and get mad" routine, albeit without the obscenities. I can't wait. It also means if, God forbid, the Celtics lose, I can't be mad or pissed off in front of her, which is healthy and good thing to do (for both of us).

we are in the tunnel vision of this right now and it’s certainly not time for reflection, but this series has been so helpful for the Celts. Learning how each possession is so important, valuing the little things, and most importantly showing huge guts in games 2,4, and 6, will do them wonders. They are playing a championship, albeit, lessened, defending champion, and the Experice of having to deal with this will be invaluable to their progression and growth

Watching the Giannis treatment actually makes me appreciate LeBron a lot more because he has so much more skill at all levels. He’s never been out there just barreling wildly into people—mostly because you have to guard him at the three point line so you’re never as far off him as people are against GA.

Giannis is great of course but LeBron would have been a basketball god at any size whereas I think Giannis would basically be Westbrook if he were shorter. Great, yes, but held back to a degree.
This is a good comparison. Lebron would occasionally do the bowling ball thing in the lane but it was far from the only trick in his bag and he was a lot more fun to watch. Giannis has a few plays a game where he looks like his arms are six feet long, but otherwise it’s not a game based on skill at the level of other superstars. And it sucks the he forces the refs into calls (or not) on every drive.

My three-year-old doesn't understand much about basketball beyond "Daddy loves the green team." After Al's tip was a hair too late to end game 3, she saw one of the teams celebrating on the court, and she screamed out, "They are happy! They winned! Yay!" And you can't stay mad at a silly thing like a basketball game when that happens.

Yes, I'm locking her in the backyard on Sunday, but still.

Priceless moment was that play where they said “you can’t defend that” and showed the replay and he had taken four steps. No shit you can’t defend that. He’s incredible in many ways but he is also the worst type of superstar to watch. The thing where he can 100% initiate hard and frequently dirty contact, but if the defender moves an inch it’s on them, is nothing new but it’s awful to watch.

Whatever the Celtics do to prep for night games they need to figure it out for afternoon games.
Aw crap, I totally forefoot about that
Perhaps. But to me, this game was the first time that we saw Tatum being Tatum. I don't know enough about the Xs and Os in today's game to know if that had anything to do with it, but whatever happened tonight...we could definitely use that on Sunday.

I actually thought Tatum got better looks in game 5, particularly the first half. But in both games they seem to have found how to get him a bit of space at the top of the key, and to get him Matthews off him. Shots are harder to make in a game 7, but if Tatum keeps getting room to work, I think we can expect another big game from him.

Totally agree. Many other posters are writing the same thing, but it feels like if they win this series they're going all the way

The LeBron/PP game 7 2008 analogy is decent but I was also thinking of another…

Game 6 2012 ECF….LeBron comes into the Garden and lights up the C’s for 45 in an elimination game to send it back to Miami for game 7. Tatum took the role of LeBron in this one to send it back to Boston.
