Philly played great. Their big three performed. They got production from Harris. Their bench out scored the Boston bench until garbage time
Sixers got big games from Embiid, Maxey, Harden, House and Harris.

I wasn't especially optimistic going into Game 6 last season, to be honest.

We''ll see if it makes any difference, but if they were going to lose tonite, I'm almost happier that it was a blowout. This way they can't tell themselves they were right there.
You actually bring up a great fucking point (that reads as I am slamming you but that’s not what I meant)

This is a “look in the mirror” loss. No one can fool themselves that they are close. Mazzulla can’t spew bullshit nonsense. None of these players can say they are close.

I obviously have no read on this series, but if the Celtics have any fucking pride at all, they come out in Game 6 and fucking thump them. The Sixers stars and coach are front runners….give them a reason to turtle and quit

It’s crazy. Tatum had 36 points on 27 FGA, to go with 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Yet…. It really wasn’t a great performance at all. How is that possible?

I have a feeling that he’s not the title obsessed alpha we need before we even take the court. This team comes out nonchalantly far too often. If he’s the leader of the team, he’s not setting the right tone in the locker room.
Need more assholes on the team.

Top Similarity Score on Basketball Reference? Carmelo.

I am not shocked by this.

Maybe the Celtics aren't really the dominant team they were in November? I don't get this thought process that the Celtics are some sort of powerhouse who should easily win.

The other teams want to win too.
Whoa what? I hate this type of rhetoric, it’s condescending while couching it in some sort of “give the other team credit” bullshit. Since you responded to me with fucking nonsense, i am going to respond to you in kind.

Did I say that the Sixers didn’t want to win? I literally just said I thought the Celtics would win. I am shocked they got punked.

Come the fuck on with this response. It’s fucking bullshit honestly

At a certain point Tatum either needs to take these kinds of games to heart, or he’s not the kind of guy you build a championship team around. Maybe he is better suited to be a really good second banana a la Kobe in the early 2000s but as now he just doesn’t have that killer instinct that the really great players do.

And yes I get he scored 35. But the eye test makes clear he’s not quite there yet.
It's hard to square what he did vs Milwaukee in game 6, where I, in my mind said, "ok, this guy can actually do this" to the the finals, to now.

He seems like a nice young man. And I've been incredibly and irrationally hard on him. But, if I could get prime Paul Pierce for this run of maybe two, maybe 10 wins, if we'd be that lucky, I'd trade Tatum's entire career.

Pierce is a product of late 90s early 2000s basketball, but his mid block postups, and playing thru that mid post, would help, if only to get the ball below the three with less than 14 seconds to go on the shot clock.

Pierce didn't have the tightest handle, but he shortened the floor. And made the defense adapt to him. Tatum is always trying to adapt with what's in front of him, and he can't weave through two or three layers of defense.

And Pierce splitting a double team was pretty. Sadly, the only thing that makes me happy tonight is Truth getting one. Ill watch highlights of his 46 closeout vs Philly now.

Pretty skeptical of whatever that metric is. Tatum is worlds ahead defensively. Kinda wish they would dump it to him in the past a la Melo more though.

They lost two to Atlanta and had to really push to close out the last game. Been pretty mediocre here. I think they are just not that good in all the same ways we saw during the season. We were duped by the regular season games when they felt like playing hard.
Haven’t really come out with an edge once, save maybe game 2 of this series.

Because we were chasing the whole game after he had a slow start and the game never felt competitive.

They're just using Win Shares. And agreed on the defense. Just found the parallel an interesting one -- can Tatum be the best player on a championship team? Or is there something ineffable missing (as it was with Melo)?

where I was last at
Philly played a great must win game. Give them all the credit. They were prepared and they played hard all night
Give Doc some credit.

My fear was another close game pissed away. That would pissed me off. I did not expect a team wide no show blow out. This game felt over way too early. Couldn't get upset Cetls were flat and played dead CJM owns some of that

I think he certainly can, and almost did last year. But the ineffectual playoff halves/games are concerning for sure.

To be honest I am also wondering why he isn’t involved in the Harden defense at all. Basically hiding him on Harris while lesser defenders get roasted.

Edif: lol why are all of our coaches in Boston lost at sea? Is this payment for 20+ years of Belichick?

Also just wanted to say fuck Grant Williams and his disappearing act putting a ton of pressure on old Al and hobbled Rob. He could be really, really useful this series is he was anything other than unplayable. Great job gambling on yourself Grant. You lose.

My problem with this game is that they were soundly beaten all night. It wasn’t a late run that happened fast.

They went into the locker room down 9 having been soundly beaten in the first half and had 15 minutes to put it together and reassert themselves. They came out flat with zero intensity and within a few minutes the 76ers had all but put the game away.

How can anyone expect that they will suddenly find a sense of purpose in the next two days? Maybe they catch fire and the Sixers have a bad night and it gets back to Boston. I am certainly hoping that happens but there is no reason to expect it.

Agreed. And for those who think it's a deep team, it's not really when Grant plays at this level.

Grant’s the kind of guy that can be helpful at times but that you let leave in free agency and never really feel bad about. A rich man’s Jared Sullinger.

Admittedly I could be very wrong. Hopefully this team sees red, annihilates Philly in games 6 and 7, and goes on to win a title.

And it’s not like they’ve never won a big game or a tough series. I don’t want to be hyperbolic.

I just feel like there’s a little something missing. And it’s not something that shows up in advanced stats.

Qualifying offer for Grant is 8.4M for 2023-2024.

At this point he should be happy playing for that and hoping for a different result next season. He has been BRUTAL.

You literally said you were completely fucking stunned that they lost.
Of course that means that I didn’t think the Sixers would try. I expected them to come out and literally lay down on the floor.

Are you this dense? Seriously? I literally said I was completely fucking stunned that they got ran out of the fucking gym. I think everyone is stunned by that. The Celtics were 7.5 point favorites.

Regardless, who cares. Send your bullshit somewhere else, I have no interest in engaging in someone who clearly doesn’t want to have a good faith conversation. I’m sure someone else will find it smart and interesting

Grant Williams regressing is on Mazzula as well. Yes, the player ultimately controls his own destiny, but Grant turning from a key playoff cog to practically useless has happened on this coach's watch.

I’m no Mazzulla fan but I can’t pin it on him. Grant has had his head up his ass all year long. Total contract year meltdown.

Basketball man. They might come out and drain 8 of their first 10 shots and be completely re-energized as a team. Totally could happen.

Oof Smart says the next game has to be a dog fight, then gets a little too far into the description of a dog fight with scratching, bleeding, etc. like he was hanging out at Michael Vick's ranch back in the day.

Which of course I never said. This sounds like a lot of projection big guy. That whole every accusation is a confession thing.
Ok pal. Fuck off.

That’s something called hyperbole “big guy”. You misquoted me once for something innocuous that had nothing to do with you (that someone else agreed with and of course you didn’t touch in your response because you couldn’t get in your awesome slam on me)

And what exactly am I confessing? That I thought the Sixers wouldn’t try hard? Oh man…you got me!

Talk to someone else about how “every team tries hard and wants to win!!!” That’s really solid stuff to post to a group of adults. Although, it fits with you having no idea what hyperbole is apparently

EDIT: sorry, two people agreed with. But both teams want to win!!!!!
