End of the day they probably win on Tuesday and then either win in 6 or 7, but every time they fail to make it easy on themselves and close out winnable games they’re opening the door for more opportunities for fatigue and injury. Exactly what happened last year and it bit them in the ass. The door to the Finals is wide open with Milawaukee bowing out early it is so frustrating they can’t close these winnable series sooner.

The inability to close out tight games they are winning has been the team's Achillees heal for the past two years. On tpositive side unless they learn to close, they can keep the unfinished business Ts for wear next year.

Finish the fucking games!

Here
Yes, they have dominated two games and then lost two close ones……
Whoops, I obviously misread that haha. My bad.

If we end up winning and playing the Heat, we’ll win 3 games by 100 points, lose 3 by 10, and have a Game 7.

Just have to point out, 0 timeouts taken during this stretch. Maybe taking one and drawing up a play so that someone else gets a shot helps change who takes these shots (honestly maybe it doesn’t, since Mazzulla drew up a play to get Marcus the ball at the end of Game 1)
Yeah there’s a level of “they’ll figure it out” that I don’t believe this group of players has earned. Two games this series needing points with the final possession, and 0 shots both times.

Really like our chances Tuesday and then hoping for an unconscious shooting night Thursday to leave no doubt.

We’ve had these discussions forever going back to pre-Big 3. Of course back then the issues was that every end possession was a Pierce pull-up elbow jumper.

I’d kill for that kind of play now, at least it was a guaranteed shot and you could keep an eye on the clock, etc.
I’ve said several times they should get JB isolated in the midrange for a Pierce-esque final shot. He’s lethal there and it’s a guaranteed shot.

I'd kill for literally anything that isn't Tatum pounding the ball into the court 40 feet from the hoop till theres 5 seconds left.

Every extra game you open the door to putting your season in the ref’s hands.

Barkley saying Joe should have called TO at the end of regulation and in OT. Bos 4-8 in OT this year, most games (and I'll guess most losses) in the league this year. Shaq was fine with no TO.

Under 2 minutes in Q4:
  • Up 3 - Marcus missed 3
  • Tied - Marcus free throws
  • Tied (last shot) - Marcus missed 3
Just don’t understand how this happens so much.
Marcus calls his own name a lot.. he shouldn’t be trusted to run the offense late on this current team .. last year it made sense.. this year you have much better shooters just sitting there on the bench. Call TOs to get Smart on the floor for defense.

Edit: and he’s open a lot.. would like him to set more picks and roll instead of staying at the three point line waiting to shoot.

With that said.. Cs lost by one.. a lot of teams have lost in this playoffs after winning one away.. look at the warriors just yesterday.. took a ton of heart for the Cs to even get it close late.. let alone be up. This team is hardly ever blown out.. there’s got to be some credit for that.

This is starting to feel like the Bruins series..we are much better, we should sweep, fine they won a game, it was a fluke, on the second loss was our fault, we are still much better, what are we doing in Game 7, wait a second, what just happened.

I think it was a rogue bad read by Jaylen but it should have been harassment of Embiid, and Harden and you can live with an open shot from any of the other 3 players on the floor. If Maxey or Harris beat you then so be it.

I wouldn’t let Doc run a lemonade stand let alone an EC semi final team but his defense did exactly that putting the ball in a third tier Celtics player on the two biggest shots(one officially) in the game.

Or just general shooting variance. Tonight was frustrating but fucking around in Game 1 was really the killer. This should have been Philly’s 3-0 don’t get swept win and then bow out in 5.

Doc is an ass. Top 10 baby in the league. He is such a media darling and all he does is whine since leaving Boston. His teams have all been annoying as fuck following his lead.

Now watch the Tatum push off calls next game.

Yup
No excuse to have Smart (love his hustle and defense) over Brogdon there
Smart is never going to be on the bench in the final minutes of the game unless he’s traded or retires. Just is what it is and there’s no sense even debating it because it’s not going to change.

Thank god we had KG, Pierce Cassell and Posey as on-court coaches in ‘08

Ok. The Celtics two wins were convincing, and the Sixers two were very fortunate. If Al's ball goes the last 1/8th of the way down, or if Smart's at the end of regulation travels an extra 3 inches this series is 3 to 1.

I guess what I am trying to say, is the Sixers will be wiped out Tuesday night and the Celtics will smash them. Then Thursday the ball will fall the Celtics way and they win a close game 6.

The journey isn't supposed to be easy.

He’s a top 2 baby and he ain’t 2.

In all seriousness, fuck him. You coach a team with two stars who make a living by grifting and that’s what you want to whine about. I have so little respect for Doc and his inability to accept responsibility for literally anything

Doc doing what he thinks will help his team, he isn’t supposed to be even keeled.

Feel bad for Al more than any other player. That guy was a monster on Joel today, was totally in his head, and kind of broke him. Even the 6ers players saw it.

Embiid had 34 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. If that's what the dude looks like while being "broke".....

That’s great and from 9 minutes to go in regulation until end of regulation how many points did he score and how many times did he get his lunch money taken? He got punked so bad by Al that PJ needed to start giving him pep talks. Cs let these guys off the hook.

Kind of like when Kerr complains about players on other teams being dirty

He probably should have clarified that to late 3rd/4th when the Celtics actually turned up their defense and stopped letting Embiid parade to the free throw line.

I loved seeing all those blocks from Horford and Tatum and it would behoove the Celtics to get that going earlier.

But yeah, I think he’s going to get his points even when we win - he gets to the line constantly. They played him really well in the 4th with active hands and good double teams.

The last couple weeks have led to a lot of introspection given how stressful it has been watching these games with the highest expectations and how unhappy I have been when they lose and merely relieved when they win.

Would love to be able to divest some of my emotional engagement with these teams but I know I’m not undoing 30 years of rabid sports interest overnight.

The Celtics and Bruins both have basically been 5-10 years of buildup and close calls and injury and heartbreak with ZERO catharsis and it’s really just going to feel shit until one of them wins it if only relieve this tension. If it’s going to come down to shit like a coach playing an injured goalie or not calling a timeout in a tie game with last possession in order to get the best offense on the floor then it just feels stupid to devote so much attention to it.

I know it's hard not to keep bringing the Bruins into this, but they are completely different teams in completely different windows. Their only similarity was championship expectations.

And yes, I used to get seriously cranky and depressed after losses in the playoffs - to the point where it would ruin my day/night/week. I would actually get stress headaches after losses. I know I'm not alone in that. I'm just not doing that anymore. It's too draining, too painful, and it's also just silly in the grander scheme of things. It's easier as I get older, too.

Trying to be more positive this postseason has honestly been a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend it. I'm even starting to convert my father, who is notoriously cranky and negative about losses.

I expect the Celtics to play a really good game on Tuesday - with my sister in the house to cheer them on.

a time out could have settled them down, get Philly questioning what the play is and maybe make a play--agree give it to Jaylen for a mid range jump shot --and stop the barrage of missed 3's--lost possessions that aren't needed against the Sixers--pound the middle to get Embid in foul trouble, drive to the basket and if you take 3s somebody crash and rebound! Also start really running witht the ball--the Sixers are slow

I've gone back and forth in my head about this--on one hand, I can justify not calling the TO because Philly doesn't have its best defenders on the floor, and we had the Jays, Al, White, and Marcus. On the other hand, there was no urgency to the play--if I didn't know better, I would've sworn they thought the game was tied, and either a T.O. prevents that and allows you to set up a solid play *and* advance the ball, or you call one when they're at half court with about twelve seconds left and it's obvious that nothing is cooking and you need to have a set play to win the game.
