Yet another playoff run where the Bruins might need their 9th defenceman to play. And because it's Chara this time, you're looking at a firmly bottom-pair guy having to do some top-4 work. Not optimal. The one thing I wonder is if two days is enough time to get back to Boston, wire Chara's jaw, and give him the full face shield for Game 5.

I'm definitely on board for scratching Backes, but you better be sure the room understands what's going on. Not to play up a psychological component, but that's the kind of scratch that can demoralize a team if not done right.

Can’t help but be disappointed that they couldn’t put more pressure on a goalie that has really turned out to be an absolute turd. Need to adapt when St Louis continually takes themselves out of position to smush someone into the glass. Instead we are holding the puck and getting caved in.

Agree it's gotta be a broken jaw for Z, NHL would be in hot water if they let him even back on the bench concussed.

Best of 3 with 2 at home. Even minus Gryz and Z, I like the B's chances. Could be one hell of a trial-by-fire for Vaakanainen

Agree. Really need to gameplan getting pucks to the net - so many blocked shots or situations where one too many passes is made...if you’re the Blues you do not want Binnington seeing a lot of rubber

All complaints aside, love their chances at home off a loss.

Berube got his favorable whistle tonight with his guys being no less dirty. Don’t expect it to the same degree again.

I'll maintain no fracture but uncontrolled bleeding was the reason. Clifton was exposed tonight.

I’m fine with Backes playing 9 minutes a game against a physical team and I want him dressed and on the bench and in the room. Karson Kuhlman is not the answer.

That’s because he is too slow to keep up on the rush and never has the puck. That line hasn’t scored a goal all series.m, time to try something else.
Not disputing that - just saying he doesn’t bring nothing to the table

The Krejci line is officially a no-show against the Blues. What they have isn't the answer either.

And what about Backes playing has quelled their worst urges to hurt Bruins?

Yeah they are not going to win because Backes is out there trying to return the favor in short minutes. They need to be playing their game, possessing the puck, dialing up an aggressive forecheck, and forcing the defense and goalie into bad positions.

injuries and goonery are evening the series up. feels like a 60-40 proposition we take it all at this point, accounting for HFA.

Broken jaw knocked Krug out for 3 weeks in the beginning of the regular season last year.

I expect to see Chara wired up and pissed off for g5

Still pretty zen. Game 3 was the big one. Tonight would have been gravy. I love gravy. Gravy is awesome. But it's just gravy, you know?
Keep winning the odd games and I like our chances.

Yeah I’m with you here, though tonight is the first night we didn’t look like the better team.

Broken jaws suck. Never had one but was around enough people who did. You can’t eat. You can’t sleep. I expect Chara can rally, but he’s going to have to dig deep.

Man, I’d love to see someone on our team put a little fear into them. They’re just beating up on us with no fear of reprisal or penalty. We can’t control the refs, but if we get up a goal or two at home, someone needs to tear into Maroon or Perron or Sundquist.

Depends on the severity of the fracture and the location. If he requires any type of wiring or inter maxillary fixation, I would be shocked to find an oral surgeon that would sign off on him playing. Given how his mandible was positioned, he likely fractured the body of the mandible. Hopefully he didn’t fracture the condyle (part of the TMJ complex)

Can DeBrusk switch with Heinen and play with Coyle and Mojo?

He has been soooo quiet and maybe a little change of scenery will get him going more.

Is Kamper or Vaak next up if Chara is no go?

I agree the Krejci line is a no-show, I agree Backes hasn’t done much to make St. Louis pay for the cheap shots, and I admit to being an overly sentimental puke.

I’m just having a hard time seeing how 10 minutes of a rookie who’s played 17 NHL games is a significant enough improvement to send a team leader to the ninth floor.

But tough games call for tough decisions. Maybe you guys are right.

I don't know if he was exposed as much as he got stuck on a 3min shift that he couldn't recover from esp since he still had to play more min with Chara out. McAvoy had a terrible game by his standards, was off all night and had trouble just staying on his feet. They need his A game if indeed Z is out.

Vaakaneinen is a lefty. Maybe he gets the call? Or does Kampfer's experience win out? I suspect yes but I'll admit I'm curious about UV. Clifton coughed up the EN and was completely outmuscled on the 3rd goal, allowing the path and free stick on the rebound of Pietrangelo's shot.

Kampfer has played 2 career playoff games and 200 games across 8 NHL seasons. If anything, I don’t think experience will be a deciding factor.

I argued a few posts ago that you had to be careful about how you scratch him. I get it. It's just that they need to win 2 of the next 3 to win the damn thing and sometimes sentimentality costs you that trophy. His name gets on it, he gets to say he was a warrior that turned things around late in the Toronto series. He just can't be the reason they go down, and being proactive with a Kuhlman swap at least gives them a chance to change the way that line plays.

It’s Gryz if his brain isn’t scrambled. Otherwise, dress 19 and roll 5 Dmen.
The exact recipe that got them steamrolled in their two losses! Minus the extra mediocre forward to take mediocre minutes away from someone mediocre. Rolling with 5 D in an NHL game is all types of stupid. Let alone the Cup.

Don’t see how they lose another game if the D stays healthy during a game.

B’s in 6 and Boston celebrates in St. Louis again. Thankfully without Jimmy Fallon on the ice.

I was kidding. Obviously they’d have to go with Kampfer on his off side and limit his minutes as the 6th D. Vaak would be like sending my daughter’s hamster out there.

Would rather see them roll with 7 D. Dress both Vaak and Kampfer and spread the mins out. That is how you bench Backes without anyone complaining.

Vaak was good before he got hurt earlier in the year. Home game where you could shield his assignments is the exact situation you would want to put him in.
