It is really too bad to not have Kelly and Paille for the PK since the Bruins are in what feels like an cost/benefit situation where they have to really make the game about the hitting and strength, but the more they do that the greater the risk of penalties. If you feel really confident in the PK, then the hits are worth it. If you feel like you are scrounging around for bodies to kill off the last 40 seconds of two PKs a period, not so much. I suspect they might get tagged for a few soft penalties in Detroit too, so it should be interesting to see how they play this out.
This obviously makes sense, but the PK has been on point, even without Paille and Kelly. Detroit has had no goals and what, two shots on goal in six PP situations thus far? The issue, to me, isn't confidence in the PK, it's what the extra minutes for Krejci and Chara means in the long run.
Paille skated yesterday, so while he appears to be a no go tonight, we might have him back sooner rather than later. And hopefully that would be the end of the Jordan Caron experiment for the playoffs.
My concern isn't the PK, but rather even-strength scoring chances. Game two was obviously an improvement over game 1, but of the four goals scored, two came on the PP (with one including a 5-on-3 stint) and one came on a rare brain fart by Jimmy Howard.
