Sieves ahoy in the Carolina crease. There's a pig outside the arena, wow amazing.

Two more wins and Dougie will be flossing all the way down to the museum. Step on their throats

Withstand the 1st period surge that will be the Canes giving it everything they have to turn the series.

And naturally I’ll be at the calling hours and won’t be able to watch. So knock this one out of the park for my mom, boys.

In the simulacrum
I'm not going to defend Mrazek too much, but Carolina's defense, especially in the slot, was about as soft as you'd see in an all star game. The ice looked far too wide open for the Bruins. If I'm a Hurricanes fan I'm spreading some blame around.

Thanks guys.

I watched the goals... man Mrazek was hung out to dry a few times and there was one goal that he had no chance on (the 5th?), but he really didn’t have the strongest game. I can’t see them going back to him for game 3. A 2-0 series deficit is not insurmountable and it seems like this is the perfect time to use your 1B goalie.

Can you be a 1B if you don't have a 1A?

A good article in The Athletic about Mrazek’s style and how that has led to him being exploited by the Bruins’ patience.

https://theathletic.com/974503/2019/05/12/how-the-bruins-broke-petr-mrazek-and-routed-the-hurricanes-in-game-2/
It would be nit-picking to blame Mrazek for Jake DeBrusk’s power-play goal at 18:32 of the first. Carolina wants its defensemen to fill shooting lanes on the penalty kill, not box out opposing forwards. In such formations, the goalie is one-on-one with the net-front threat.
So the Hurricanes are OK with leaving an opponent right in front of the net on a PK? That's asking your defensemen to HAVE to block the shot, or a high quality chance is coming. that seems like one of those analytic strategies that might not actually be so good unless you have goalies with very low rebound rates, which I doubt Mzarek has.

The Bruins faced McElhinney on March 5th - he gave up 4 goals on 38 shots as the Bs won in overtime. So... maybe better than Mrazek?

Anyhow, just win.

I don't know what that says because I don't have a sub, but I was saying yesterday how incredible it was how many holes Mrazek has when he has to move in the crease. He's leaving the 5-hole exposed every time he moves side to side.

Generally, his smaller size requires him to play a more active, challenging style, in which case he has to come out further and move a lot to attack shooters. The movement opens him up a lot.

A wise man named @TFP once said that you need one sweep to win the cup. It’s too grueling otherwise. Then we ate sliders and the Bruins ate the Flyers. Try the Au Jus.

I amended that in 2013 to include a gentleman's sweep (win in 5) in hopes it would apply. Alas, it did not.

Sure, but the last time a Stanley Cup winning team had a sweep en route to winning the Cup was in 2015.

And before that 2012.

So statistically it's better not to have a sweep.

If you include a gentleman's sweep, there's only been 2 times dating back to the lockout where a team won the Cup without a series going 5 games or less (not counting the SCF). Last year, and the Kings in 2014 (when they had 3 game 7s to reach the SCF - nuts).

The point is, having one short series is beneficial along the way.

You probably said short series. I was trying to be sensitive about your height.

Raleigh, North Carolina is named after Sir Walter Raleigh, famous for never discovering El Dorado, and also for coordinating the settlement of Roanoke so poorly that everyone either died or moved away. Raleigh, NC was also established 50 miles inland to prevent the capitol of North Carolina from being attacked from the coast.

Today, we honor those traditions by continuing the systematic elimination of the Hurricanes in a manner that would make Sir Walter envious of their lack of success, and we also happily show them that no matter how far inland you run, bears will always find you.

Bruins in 3.

Leave no doubt. Mrazek sucks. The best goalies have extra vowels in their names, not missing ones.

We have movers at our house for the third summer in a row. Moving in a month to Germany. I convinced them to leave my TV un-packed for tonight. Please win.

Now I have to figure out how we’re watching the rest of the series...

As a Bostonian, what's summer like?

I was just outside in the 40 degree drizzle, watching my kids play basketball in rain coats, dodging puddles, talking with my neighbor about the game tonight as he chopped wood to heat his house in mid May. Good times.

But hey, the Bruins are up 2-0 in the ECF, so I got that going for me.
