They cost themselves the premium, whatever that is, (probably 2 good picks) by losing 1/1 by winning an absolutely meaningless game.
Penny wise.
Penny wise.
So walk me through this. Both those teams know we aren’t going to take a QB at #1. What’s their motivation to deal the 3rd to us, along with other picks, to move up?Yes. I’m sure that we would have traded the first to the Titans or Browns whichever ended up at 3.
The team in 3 gets the ability to pick which QB they want. Which also motivates the team at 2 to dealSo walk me through this. Both those teams know we aren’t going to take a QB at #1. What’s their motivation to deal the 3rd to us, along with other picks, to move up?
Right but that assumes they value one of them enough to trade away a decent chunk of capital for the privilege. We’re sure they’d do that? The team in 3 gets the ability to pick which QB they want. Which also motivates the team at 2 to deal
Im not one arguing they would get a haul to move down 2 spots, but they would absolutely get more (likely future) picks. And they would retain the ability to draft the best player in the draft. So walk me through this. Both those teams know we aren’t going to take a QB at #1. You think they’d be afraid of not getting either of Sanders/Ward that they want? Enough to give up that much capital?
Maybe. Like I just asked of teddykgb, this assumes one of them has a distinct preference for Sanders or Ward. What if they don’t?Im not one arguing they would get a haul to move down 2 spots, but they would absolutely get more (likely future) picks. Then they would be rolling the dice that there isn’t a team outside the top 5 looking to jump in and grab Sanders/Ward. Because if there is, they get neither.Maybe. Like I just asked of teddykgb, this assumes one of them has a distinct preference for Sanders or Ward. What if they don’t?
There are other potential trade partners further down like the Raiders that would give substantially more to move up including picks in 26.Maybe. Like I just asked of teddykgb, this assumes one of them has a distinct preference for Sanders or Ward. What if they don’t?
Exactly. Last year everyone was sure some team would trade a boatload to go up to 4 or 5 to jump before the Giants to draft JJ McCarthy. Didn't happen.Right but that assumes they value one of them enough to trade away a decent chunk of capital for the privilege. We’re sure they’d do that?
Too many people on this board watched this game and walked away thinking Milton is legit. Maybe he is - but guess what? This game didn't come close to proving that. He made some very athletic/exciting plays, but almost all of his completed passes have to come with the largest grain of salt. When he was 9/9 at the start of the game, I'm pretty sure at least 6 or 7 of those came on wide open comeback/out routes. He threw against the most basic of basic coverages.I get the disappointment, but Milton has game skills and a big arm. And I didn't say 4 was "better" than 1. Anyway, assuming the coach and front office are coming back next season, the Pats will be just as bad next season and we're more likely to be having "Draft Watch" threads than "Postseason opponent" ones.
Agreed. But then we don’t get Hunter. Then they would be rolling the dice that there isn’t a team outside the top 5 looking to jump in and grab Sanders/Ward. Because if there is, they get neither.
Regardless of value or whether they would or would not have traded it, it would have made for a more fun next 4 months.Agreed. But then we don’t get Hunter.
Like I said, I’d rather we have the top pick. But I think we’re being a bit too certain what we would have gotten for it. And that’s assuming we would have traded it.
It’ll still be interesting, because being at 4 probably increases the likelihood that we trade out of the top 10. Depending on if the Giants do something idiotic at 3.Regardless of value or whether they would or would not have traded it, it would have made for a more fun next 4 months.
Trading out of the top 10 doesn’t sound like a strong strategy for a team devoid of elite talent. It’ll still be interesting, because being at 4 probably increases the likelihood that we trade out of the top 10. Depending on if the Giants do something idiotic at 3.
Agree with that.Regardless of value or whether they would or would not have traded it, it would have made for a more fun next 4 months.
This isn’t exactly the draft to find elite top 10 talent in the positions where they are hurting. Guess you could drop back a few and grab McMillan.Trading out of the top 10 doesn’t sound like a strong strategy for a team devoid of elite talent.
I don't disagree that this game was not a serious test, but let's assume that Milton's play was a mirage and he sucks going forward. That means the Front Office screwed up every pick in the 2024 draft except Maye. And those are probably the same guys making the picks in 2025. This franchise is back to the bad old days - questionable at every level from owners to coaches, and a demonstrably bad roster. Buckle up, it's gonna be a rough ride.Too many people on this board watched this game and walked away thinking Milton is legit. Maybe he is - but guess what? If people are using that for a silver lining, they weren't paying attention.
Accurate. Unfortunately, the pregame post that Milton sucks and would ensure a loss wasn't.Well, with any luck, Mayo will have won his first and his last game as HC of the NEP.
