The mucky muck
I realize this is a game thread where overreaction understandably reigns, but in looking at the Predictions thread, not too many people predicted a sweep in this series. So, if people thought the Wings would win one, two, or three games in the series, why is there so much hand wringing when they do something that most people expected? Is it because it was game 1/in Boston?

I agree with T4P. Keep calm. Most people anticipated a relatively tough series (i.e, not a sweep.)

FWIW, I'm a Wings fan and thought Bruins in 5 before the series. Until the Wings win a second game, as far as I'm concerned, my prediction is still on track.

Thanks, that makes sense.  I guess I think of Paille as the skill guy on the line, so he could replace some of that.  But I forgot that he only played center.
I'm a little surprised they went with Florek over Spooner to replace Chris Kelly. Caron and Florek are both better suited for the 4th line duty, but Spooner, IMO, is a better fit on that 3rd line. The Bruins 3rd line is more skilled than your typical 3rd line, so Spooner would've fit in nicely since he brings speed and more skill to the table. Plus, he filled in there for about 20 games this season. I suppose need to replace Kelly and Paille on the PK won out though.

I will personally re-sever his Achilles if that happens, Oz style (jail show not movie).

Wait a minute. I know someone who knew Achilles. You commenting on the re-severing of a heel is offensive to me and to susceptible heels everywhere. I would kindly ask you to stop using references to Achilles. He died in a painfully tragic death and needs to be remembered more fondly.

I thought a large part of the reason the Bs couldn't get anything going offensively was that the Wings were clogging the NZ and keeping numbers back to prevent the Bs from entering the zone with speed. Montreal has done that in the past with great success. The Bruins need to dump and forecheck better to get things going; Detroit did a nice job of getting to the pucks and clearing them out before the Bs could get any offensive momentum in zone.

Of course I was high as shit, drinking, and watching the game on a TV (rather than live) so maybe I'm waaaay off base. And I missed most of the first.

Remember that SNL skit where Will Ferrell is interviewing Pierce Brosnan for a job, and he ends up killing Chris Parnell with a trident?

I totally agree with you.  Even when they did establish a forecheck, it seemed like within a few seconds they ended up just one step to slow to the puck and lost momentum.  I said in the preview thread that this was the scariest matchup for me in the east, and that still holds true.  The B's tend to struggle with teams that are faster than them, and Detroit is the only team that combines that speed with a high level of true skill.  I still think the B's can win the series, but it is going to be scary from start to finish.

In the playoff prediciton thread, this series was picked to be won by the Bruins by EVERY SINGLE PERSON.  2 people picked a sweep. 12 had it going 5, 21 had it going 6, and 6 had it going 7.  Half of us had Detroit pick up 2 games in the series, and its completely ok that one of those was in Boston.  The B's need to win one in detroit now, but that's absolutely possible.  They were the best road and best home team in the league.  It sucks that they lost game 1, and it sucks that after DVR'ing the entire thing, I had the score ruined on the radio on my way home to watch it, but it doesn't matter.  The B's are the better team, and you have to expect that over a series they will be the victors.  That's why they play series, not single games.

Holy crap were people drunk and angry.  Are we all Nancying already?
