The Bruins play later tonight in the first game of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they are playing the powerhouse Carolina Hurricanes, who by virtue of having a lot of shot attempts for has led people to believe they are on the same level as the early 80s Islanders, the mid-80s Oilers despite having two goalies who are mediocre to bad in net for them. We all remember the last time James Reimer played the Bruins in the playoffs and Petr Mrazek couldn't even beat out Jimmy Howard to have that honor a handful of years back.

Time to buck up and get in for the ride. It won't always be pretty, the playoffs never are. Plenty of people will start Chicken Little-ing and many more will wish we never traded Andrew Raycroft for Tuukka Rask because they're idiots. But after long wait, we are here. This was the best team in the regular season. This was the second best team last year. They have one of the best lines and one of the best PPs in the NHL. This ain't the Blackhawks or Canadiens sneaking into the "real" playoffs here. And the Canes aren't an unstoppable dynasty.

Between here and everywhere.
I know the "round robin" games didn't exactly inspire confidence - but this team absolutely rolled the NHL this year. They're a wagon, and they've only gotten healthier.

The games matter now, and I imagine the Bruins will remember than and continue their Sherman-esque march through the playoffs.

I remember the last time we played the Carolina Hurricanes. We beat them.

I also remember the last series we played the Carolina Hurricanes. We swept them.

The Storm Purge begins tonight. Rip their heads off.

Is that a prediction or a news report?
I think that's a pretty safe assumption as to what their lines will be. It was what they ran out against Washington (minus Gryz in for Clifton).

I actually thought Kase looked pretty good. He looked a lot more vibrant and fast than he did in his short stint before the shutdown.

The lineup is basically how they played against Washington and how they practiced yesterday. Pastrnak and Rask missed practice yesterday but both skated this morning so I'm plugging them in. If they tinker down the road in this series, they could pull Ritchie out for Kuhlman to give them some more speed in the lineup if matching speed with Carolina becomes a problem. Clifton could go in for Lauzon too. Clifton is a bit more of a roamer that can move the puck while Lauzon is conservative. That switch could come if they feel they need some more mobility on the back end.

Agreed that Kase was encouraging. Tiny sample, but that whole line played 9:34 at 5x5 against Washington, had a 10-5 advantage in attempts, 4-1 in shots, 3-1 in scoring chances, 1-0 in goals and had an xGF% of 84.62% (amazingly enough, 3rd on the team behind the Bergy line at 95% and the Coyle line at 86%.). Certainly felt like Kase's best performance as a member of the Bruins. He assisted on DeBrusk's goal and had the net front chance in the 2nd when the puck rolled off his stick. Hopefully that line continues to gel. DeBrusk pouted a bit about being moved around but the one game on the 3rd line seems to have gotten him going.

So sense we are in a zoom culture... what are thoughts on getting a zoom room viewing party set up? Just throwing it out there... I have a corporate account, so there wouldn't be the 45 minute time limit.

Sounds fun, but the time delay might be off-putting. Would be nice if there was a way to screen-share the game within the Zoom.

Just figured it would be a nice way to all get together. If we don't charge, there wouldn't be a "...without expressed written consent" type of worry, as far as I know...

CBJ/Tampa is going to at least a 2nd OT. B’s puck drop isn’t going to be anywhere close to 8. The broadcast says they need at least 45 min to clean and disinfect the dressing rooms before the Bruins and Canes can even get in there.

So, asking for a friend, where might people who don't live in the Boston area/have cable be getting hockey streams these days?

right here
Haggs says "Bruins/Hurricanes expected to now start later than 8 pm (or 815-ish exactly) because of the Lightning/Blue Jackets game headed into overtime. Get out the late night coffee and Red Bulls"

On a side note, I was shocked to see so many experts picking Carolina this series. I mean, I realize Boston looked like trash in the round robin, but still ...

If you're out of market, sign up for the hulu live free trial. That will get you nbcsn. If you're in market get the youtube tv trial for nesn. Those will last you a few weeks, I think.

Is this 3 OT game going to delay the start of the Bruins game? Dont they have to clear out the dressing room then let the Bruins/Canes get warmed up etc?

Edit: should have read the thread; question answered above

Sorry, I didn't see the bottom line on NESN saying that the game was delayed.

ESPN just says that the game is 'delayed...'
NESN said they’ll have a full hour of pregame before it starts... after they determine the start. Sounds like a bean pot game, need the first to finish then change out the teams, warm up, etc.

Prob not starting until 9:30-10

For the more experienced hockey fans/players here...is ice meant to be played on for 8-9 straight hours? Is a clean after each period enough to reset it completely?
