Blues aren't going to be able to out muscle this team like they did the Sharks to overcome the skill disparity.
You can't out-bruin the Bruins.

Also I'm convinced this team is by far the best conditioned team in hockey today. They always seem to have a reserve gear to turn on in the third. Part of it is being able to roll 4 lines deep but they never seemed to look gassed.

I love that they dented the rookie goalie and prevented him from getting that invincible mentality. Not Dryden or Holtby like tonight.

The Bruins look like a better team.

Only team they saw like the B’s was the Jets right? And the Jets are choke artists.

This is exactly what i said to my wife when the Bruins took control of the game in the 2nd period. The Blues haven't played a team that will punch them back in the mouth the way the Bruins will. Difference is, the Bruins generally do it clean, without elbows up. The Blues got away with a TON of shit in that series with the Sharks.... that didn't happen tonight. And the Bruins won't just sit there and take it like the Sharks did.

I thought they were significantly better. They gave one goal away on a stupid turnover. And they had like 4 shots hit the pipes and they whiffed on a few other opportunities. This game could easily have been like 7-1.

If being well-conditioned weren’t enough, the ten-day leg-freshener and the ability to cycle a fourth line pretty regularly give the B’s a big advantage. They wear down even bigger teams.

Love the Merlot line of course but Kuraly has taken the concept of rolling 4 lines to a different level, certainly a different level than when you were just hoping Thornton would claim someone’s soul and that they’d put some pressure on. Right now they are a legit threat every time on the ice and are allowing Cassidy a ton of flexibility.

Patrick Sharp on NBCS just now "This series is going to go 6 or 7 games, we know that"

Did he not just watch the same game we did? Maybe it's overconfidence, but I wouldn't exactly be inspired if I was a blues fan after that.

Totally gassed. Bruins looked twice as fast the entire third.
This seems to be happening all playoffs.. Bruins have been dominating the third. Being able to play all four lines seems to be helping their fitness in the third.

edit: or what locknload said.

Bergy 14-6 on faceoffs too. Seemed like he won each important faceoff.

Blues are going to make some adjustments because this will be over in 5 or under if they can’t.

I wonder if the B's get rid of the rust and put three solid periods together next game.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the Blues are now 0-13 in the Stanley Cup I believe?

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Tuukka should have had that first goal. I'm convinced he has a shutout if this game happens a week ago.

I thought the talent on these teams was comparable, but the Bruins are by far the better team. Watch out if Tuukka gets hot again.

The Bruins aren't the Sharks, the Bruins punch back.

First time ever the Bruins have come back from two goals down in a Stanley Cup Final game.

Conner Clifton with the number 3 star - wow! This guy has come out of nowhere to contribute
I loved him the moment I saw him in Dallas (the night of Bergeron's sternoclavicular injury), and his interview after that game was absolutely hilarious. I'm so glad he looks like he is going to stick.

Reminds me of the last time they made a run to the cup some no name defenseman came out of nowhere to become a major force in the postseason.

Or maybe I just wasn't a big enough fan and Krug was a big time prospect I should have already known would be good.

Someone needs to ruin Edmundson.

Refs are calling them for shit they let go against the Sharks so far, though.
This series needs to become better known as the "Wreck of the Edmundson Fitzgerald"

The legend lives on from chippy Chara on down
To the center they called 'David Krejci'
The Garden, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the race for Lord Stanley turns gloomy
As lower seeds go, the Blues were better than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Ending player dreams by beating 3 good West teams
When they left fully loaded for Boston

With a softened ice floor and seventeen thousand fans more
The B's watched Edmundsons elbow get nasty
The good Bruin crew was a bone to be chewed
When the goals from St. Louis came early
The first was a drive past Tuukka's glove side
From a turnover by the defense to Braydan
The second came quick, a blast off Tarasenko's stick
Playoff Tuukka had no chance to save it

Later that night when the first foghorn bell rang
Could it be a nor'easter they'd been feelin'?
And every Blue knew, as their fans did too,
T'was Bobby Orr's karma come stealin'
Clifton answered back and McAvoy sustained the attack
While the gales of all 4 lines came smashin'
When the 3rd Period came it was Kuraly's name
With assists from Zedeno and Acciari

With 34 saves, Binnington was on ice sayin'
Fellas, it's too rough t'hold ya
A bit after 10 when Binnington was pulled in, he said
Fellas, it's been good t'know ya
Pietrangelo wired in he had Marchand comin' in
And the St.Louis Blues were in peril
Shortly thereafter Krug sent Thomas to the rafters
and came the wreck of the Edmundson Fitzgerald

Does St. Louis know where the love of God goes
When black waves turn the minutes to hours?
The sportscasters say they'd have taken the first game
If they'd put just three more goals behind her
They might have split wide or pinched on the outside
Or other tactics that held off the slaughter
And all that remains are the faces and the names
Of the players that became SportsCenter fodder

Couldn't game thread, but would just like to say how much I love this team.

I expect St Louis to play much better in game 2, but if they don't this series is not going to be close.

Also, this is a minor thing, but I absolutely love that the 4th line was starting. I know Cassidy has gone this way a lot this year, but these guys don't get the whole experience of standing at the line while your name gets called on the PA and National Television, and that had to be pretty cool for those guys.

The GMs voted in favor of a rule change for next year where a player has to go to the bench immediately upon losing their helmet. Krug’s hit could be the last helmet-less hit in the NHL...

Speaking of which, would there be some kind of minor penalty if the opponent removes your helmet like Perron did to Krug last night? The articles I read say they’re thinking about penalizing a player that stays on the ice without a helmet.

In the simulacrum
I thought the big difference was an adjustment between the first and second period where the Bruins seemed to change their approach to defending the neutral zone on that first pass attempt out by the Blues. Normally, after a clean change of possession two forwards need to fall back and "concede" a first pass, but the Bruins seemed to hold their pressure much more aggressively and then the Blues all of the sudden had a very hard time getting up ice. Risky (maybe suicidal) against a team like Toronto. Vs St. Louis? Seems like a good move.

I know the Blues scored one early in the second but after the gift, it was all Bruins.
