I’m delighted the Sox got Cora. He was my first choice. But something tells me I would have been happy with Gabe Kapler, too.

Our Gabe Kapler.

I'm a lot happier with Cora - both have lower-level managerial experience but I like Cora having the MLB dugout experience as Astros bench coach. Good for Kapler, though - I think he will make a very good manager.

So, we are now up to 3 members of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox who are managing MLB teams, Francona, Roberts, and Kapler.

And Cash and Cora were both on the 2007 World Champion Red Sox.

5/30. That's kind of cool.

The Red Sox know Gabe Kapler very well, as is the case with Alex Cora. They chose the latter. Thank goodness!
No one in the Red Sox, Cubs or LAD organisations speaks highly of Kapler, neither professionally, nor ethically. And they know him well.
I am very happy the Red Sox will not be directed by a bluff.

Possibly referring to this? Terry Francona's son, an Afghanistan War veteran, alleged that the Dodgers fired him for seeking treatment of the "invisible wounds of war," and he seemed to single out Kapler by name in the complaint. Unclear if anything ever came of it, though.

For no specific reason, Kaplar always struck me as a bit of a meathead. Obviously that can't be the case, since teams are impressed with his baseball acumen.

I have been involved with professional baseball since 2001. Hence, I cannot disclose my sources for obvious reasons, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt, or not.
In any case, if you would like a bit of insight into how Gabe Kapler presents himself publicly, you may wish to have a look at his blog: http://kaplifestyle.com/
Its contents will surprise many of you.

Just quickly browsing his website and it seems like an ordinary health/lifestyle coaching blog. What’s the problem there? Am I missing something?

Okay, here's an article that gives some clue about the newaginess of the new manager. I think it's a hoot, but I could see others being made uncomfortable by sun on the genitals, drinking Scotch before exercising, et cetera.

There is another point referred to in the presser, a settlement of some kind between Kapler and one of Francona's son's. I have read a bit about this but have no clue who's in the right here. Anyone else?

I will never forget his first week as a Red Sox.

And his crumpling to the ground on the bases of a homer.

That fanrags article makes him sound like a buff Bobby Valentine.

Or Bobby Valentine on steroids, so to speak.
