Per Woj

He's making $17 million this season, so I assume he slides right into the TPE and the Celtics are still under the apron

Fournier is a solid player. Nice pickup. No clue what it does to them salary cap wise, but he's a useful player.

Replacing our current wing situation with 30 min from Fournier is a massive upgrade. He isn't that great but the delta there is huge.

Wonder what that means for Gordon....

If Gordon is sitting there in Orlando without Vuc and Fournier, that's got to suck - right?

Never Google also has played some point for ORL. He won't here, but having another facilitator off the bench helps. He's probably similar to or slightly better than Pritchard on that front, and running the 2 of them together will mitigate some of the issues we have there.

I wonder if he'll agree to an extend and trade.

What number would people be comfortable re-signing Fournier at, assuming he turns out to be a fit?

Like Fournier as a guy that can score off the bench and create his own shot, which this team is going to need. Whenever one of our core four starters sits (which is almost every game) he can slide in and start.

Fournier is currently the team leader in FTA per game, at 4.7. Both Js are at 4.6 FTA per game.

If the Celtics had Fournier last year, they make the Finals pretty easily imo.
I'm pretty jaded about this team right now

but adding a 20pt scorer for (2) 2nds is borderline thievery

I'd put down the Orlando hotline and move on to other business

I'm jaded too, but excited to shake things up, with better talent. I imagine the players are too.

while this doesn't initially WOW me, the trade is a pretty big win.
Fournier should slide right into Hayward’s minutes and role from last year. How big of a get this is depends if we can retain him. Now to rid ourselves of Semi and Grant’s minutes......c’mon Danny!!

Great deal. He's certainly going to help on both sides of the ball IMO.

I assume you mean similar to PP in running the point. I think either or both of PP's and Teague's minutes are going to go down as the C's don't really need another true PG so long as two of KW, MS, EF, and JT are on the floor at any time.

This is obviously a great get on an absolute basis and based on what they are giving up.

The questions will be: 1.) Can they/do they want to re-sign him? 2.) If this is eating into the TPE, are there any opportunities this summer that this prevents them from going after?

So far at least, it feels like Danny and Brad still feel like this team can make a run this year by making this trade. That is at least hopeful based on how abysmal they have looked.

Denver just traded two 2’s for Javale McGee — so this seems like a steal.

Fournier has been a starter for most of his career, does this banish Smart to the bench when Kemba is playing, or does Fournier happily accept a bench role in a contract year? Or will further moves obviate this question?

He's light years better than Smart offensively, so I'd hope he's starting. It's not like Marcus has been locking people down defensively this year to justify a starting role.

Certainly too soon to say on Fournier's role, but to me he'd be a great sixth man who often closes games.

Yes, that's a good idea---haven't checked, is it possible to create real space that offseason?
yes. Assuming Kemba doesn't opt out, at the end of 22/23, the only players the C's currently have under contract are Brown, Tatum. They can make choices on AN and PP. They'd have $60 mil in cap space. If Kemba does opt out in 21/22 and there is no Evan Fourner, the C's would have about $50 million in cap space with Brown + Tatum guaranteed and the C's deciding on RL, GW, AN, PP, and Carsen Edwards.

Depends on a lot of things between now and then, and what the cap is, but they only have the following under contract for 2023-24:
Brown
Tatum
Pritchard
Nesmith
(Langford RFA rights)

Fournier could play the bench scorer (Lou Williams type) role we have needed for years.

Not sure how Evan would like that? He's been a starter for 6 straight seasons.

They need to re-sign him in the summer to be a fukn A trade.

He's a good edition for the Celtics but I'm kind of bummed that this would use up the TPE instead of a more impactful piece possibly this summer.

Smart and Timelord will require decisions before then that would impact the space as well. Both tradeable, of course.

I'm sure they are targeting that offseason but of course you don't want to just coast and risk being bad and increasingly unappealing for the players you want to build around. So yeah, stay good until then but make sure we're flexible.

Unless he really hates it here, he should be re-signable. He fits right into that $15-18M salary that they need to be comfortable paying for a secondary scoring wing who can shoot.

I want to line his expiration up with Kemba's mostly
Makes sense, although he'd be very moveable as an expiring with (likely) some positive value if you went 3 years. Maybe true even with 2 years left on a deal if you go 4.

He's a near 20ppg scorer, shooting nearly 40% from three, and he's in his prime. How many better players could they actually acquire with it? Seems like a pretty good get to me.

Another "I like this" post from the peanut gallery. I wonder if he will keep getting 30 minutes / game and if he will be happy if he doesn't or isn't starting. I think someone significant needs to be leaving today.
