With all the haranguing over Price, JBJ, Nunez etc, I feel like our friend Rick Porcello deserves a thread of his own. After his mediocre season last year, he has really turned it around and is having himself a really solid year . 3.57 ERA through 111 innings, with an OPS of 1.000 to boot. I was worried about which Rick we were gonna see this season but, after winning a Cy Young in his 2nd year with us, and having yet another solid year, I feel as if he has earned his "True Red Sox" status and deserves his fair share of love. Without him we would not be where we are at this point of the year, and his contract, while maybe not a bargain, is looking to be one of the more solid moves Cherington made during his tenure as our GM

Portland
A good chunk of the money not spent on Lester was instead used on Porcello (not Price which some people seem to remember). And while Lester has been more consistent, the tail end of Rick's contract looks a lot better.

He takes the ball every 5th day, doesn't get hurt, doesn't make excuses, and gives you a shit ton of quality starts. Can't ask for anything more.

This. He isn't spectacular but he's a gamer and durable as hell. Sale is your typical dominant ace, but Porcello is a really solid No. 2 starter. 13 out of his 18 starts this season have been QS; he doesn't lose you a lot of games and on the right day like today, he can out-pitch one of the game's best.

Don’t want to game thread the main board too much but that double today was one of the best moments of the season so far, especially coming against scherzer

That double was a thing of beauty, and the little smile afterwards was even better!

Rick’s home run problem has returned over this last 10 starts (1.52 HR/9, last year’s rate was 1.68) and he’s been pretty middle-of-the-pack since his great April, but last night felt like a good win, especially with the Yanks finally on the losing end of late-inning heroics.
