Caleb Smith is Miami's #2 starter (!), Garrett Cooper also made their roster and Ji-Man Choi made the Brewers (a bit surprising given I thought they had too many OF/1B options as it was).

Dustin Fowler will be Oakland's everyday CF as soon as he starts hitting, but since that wasn't this spring, he is starting in AAA.

Rob Refsnyder is now 0-4 with 5 walks this season, .000 BA and a .556 OBP. :)

At least they have a bunch of years of control on the great Bryan Mitchell, who is somehow now out of the rotation with his 6.21 ERA.

Dustin Fowler with a booming triple to enter off Porcello, knocking in a run. Flew around the bases.

It's a rough market, Adam Lind is still sitting in AAA for NY and he had a .875 OPS last year (!!).

Jake Cave was finally called up to the bigs today by MIN after 8 years in the minors, he hit a two run HR his second time up.

Full credit there, that guy disappeared so quickly after NY's pitchers of that era started to crash and burn.

I wanted to give him credit for his role as a setup man in 2009, and he was amazing in that role down the regular season stretch (1.40 ERA in 51.1 innings), but looking at the stats now, he was actually pretty bad that postseason. 9 appearances totaling only 6 1/3 innings, 6 runs allowed and a collective 1.006 OPS allowed. NY lost 2 of the 3 WS games he pitched in, and they won the 3 he didn't. Sorry, Phil, that ain't good.

Dustin Fowler came up three weeks ago just before the series in NY and had not hit much until tonight, when he homered twice and singled, 3-5, raising his OPS from .554 to .732. You may remember how excited I was about him coming up last season, nice to see him back so quickly after that insane injury.

Also John Ryan Murphy finally caught on with ARI and has gone nuts in recent weeks, OPS up to .950 and he hit cleanup for them tonight. Also Francisco Cervelli is at .942, those two are only behind the current Yankee catcher for the best OPSs from a catcher in all of baseball. That's right, they're behind Austin Romine, Sanchez is 14th.

Caleb Smith was having a very solid season in the Marlins rotation, but he came out of the game a few days ago with what turned out to be a 3rd degree lat strain, and he is going to have surgery and is out for the season.

As Seattle and Oakland jockey for the #2 wild card spot, coincidentally both sent down former Yankee outfielders to AAA today, Ben Gamel and Dustin Fowler. Also, tell me if this sounds familiar:

"Minor-league starter James Kaprielian, shut down much of the summer by shoulder issues as he was coming back from Tommy John surgery, is throwing off the mound again."

You could say it's very mildy racist. It depends on your racist scale I guess. He claims he was just joking with a friend. The way Gray has been pitching, I bet alot of Yankee fans wish he was suspended.

Traded, not suspended.
Ever had any friends of color? Just curious. Because we do kid each other about race, all the time. The black soldiers in my Army unit once voted me the palest white man in Vietnam. We busted chops all the time. 1968.

I was trying to bust your chops with the suspended comment. I actually did not find it racist in the least, but a) I am not a POC so it is not my place to judge how other people might think b) this board leans left and I did not want to offend anyone. I mean @LoseRemmersal originally said it was racist. It is a close call...not as bad as what Hader said obviously..

I can appreciate chops busting, Rich. But suspended makes no sense.
Beyond that, Sonny Gray explained his friendship almost incredulously to reporters. So much gets lost in context in today's world. Can you imagine some of the jokes we have said to our friends going public? I think when these younger athletes got on Twitter, they did not know they were speaking to the whole world.

I think he was joking about a suspension.

And the first article I read was soooo vague that I should not have posted it. After reading more articles I made the follow-up post suggesting the original headlines seem to have been overblown. Certainly not Hader-esque!

Brandon Drury fractured his hand, he has somehow been even worse for TOR than he was for NY (.472 OPS in 29 PAs for TOR, .538 in 57 PAs for NY).

Also Adam Warren blew a 3-0 lead for SEA in the 7th yesterday, they ended up winning but it took 13 innings.

Tyler Austin with 2 more HRs today against the A's, he has 6 in 41 ABs for MIN now.
