Petco/whatever it's called now always plays big which might be a particular boon for a guy like Pivetta.

Good for him, he was a fine solider here even if he didn't get great results sometimes.
Great point about 'petco.' on top of that, IIRC Pivetta usually had a stretch of dominance most seasons he was in a Sox uni too...and unless he's pitching against us, Ill hope it continues this time around.

For sure. And he definitely got punished playing in Fenway as a flyball pitcher over the years. His ERA was higher than his xERA, FIP, xFIP, whatever, almost every single year he was with us.

His HR/9, with that last one being SDP, obviously: 100521

Enmanuel Valdez was just done in by injury and a cold-hearted umpire. He slid safely into 3rd base with a triple but injured his shoulder. He was hanging on to third base with the hand of his good arm and then raised that hand to call time out, at which point Jose Ramirez tagged the hand. The umpire called him out rather than granting time out first and it was upheld on review (honestly, I doubt that part of the play is even reviewable – he was clearly tagged while not making contact with the base and the reviewer in New York can't change the umpire's discretion of what to do).

I kind of can’t hate Doogie. I know he had maturity issues with the Sox and played for the Yankees and so on. But he played a great RF for us, I loved his Mexican walk up music and when Doogie was on, he was a fun player to root for.

Old JetBlue and Fenway Friend Bobby Dalbec activated ("contract selected") by the White Sox to replace Old JetBlue Friend Chase Miedroth. Dalbec takes Old JetBlue and Fenway Friend Martin Perez spot on the 40, as Perez is moving to the 60 day IL

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/04/white-sox-martin-perez-60-day-injured-list-bobby-dalbec.html

"Through his first 12 games in Triple-A this season, Dalbec has been on a tear. He’s hitting .326/.354/.696 with four homers, three doubles, a triple and a stolen base in only 48 trips to the plate. He’s still punched out in exactly one-third of those turns at the dish, but he’s stinging the ball when he makes contact.

It seems likely to be a short-term stint on the 40-man roster for Dalbec. He’s out of minor league options, so he can’t be sent back down without first being designated for assignment and passed through waivers."

I had no idea this was still a thing that could happen but, the Cubs traded for Drew Pomeranz.

In related news Anderson Espinoza is having a decent start for the Orix Buffaloes, with a 2.45 ERA through 3 starts.
I'm still upset that we traded Espinoza for Pomeranz. I'll go to my death bed convinced that he would have been a HOF if he remained a Red Sox. Also, Rubby de la Rosa is going to finally put it all together some day.. you'll see..

Just when I thought I was safe from Kevin Millar, he appears on the latest Simpsons episode as himself along with Kevin Burkhardt and others, including Jomboy, in a baseball themed episode.

Teel posting a 98 wrc+ in AAA for the CWS right now.

About 250 plate appearances in AAA of pretty mid performance.

Tyler O'Neill has also been sucking out loud.

Enmanuel Valdez with the +3 OAA for the Pirates and the statcast page full of red...I cannot stop laughing.

They've moved him over to first base where he's mostly been really good defensively. Results haven't been great, but he's got a miserable BABIP.
