I thought they were porcelain dolls...Dalbec probably just set fire to the entire box of wax dolls.
When the K-rate in your Urias spikes, it's only natural to be concerned.Urias really cratered out there. .152 avg and .580 ops could be partially explained by BABIP, but his K rate also jumped 11%.
Playing 2B for the Mets tonight, he just made terrible throws trying to complete easy DPs on consecutive plays, throwing it so wildly the 1B couldn't put a glove on it either time, cost them one run in the end.Happy to see our old friend Iggy back in The Show!
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40253644/triple-catcher-payton-henry-hit-backswing-hospitalizedCatcher Payton Henry of the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons was hospitalized Friday night after he was struck by a batter's backswing and carted off the field on a stretcher. Henry was hit in the back of the head by the swing from Syracuse Mets third baseman Pablo Reyes in the seventh inning. He immediately went to the ground upon contact and athletic trainers tended to him.
Feeling pretty good about my whole "I want nothing to do with him coming back" expressions this offseason.Adam Duvall at 198/281/386.
Why can't we get guys like that!We should have a gallery of "Guys We Can't Live Without!"
Five weeks later.
June 1 Update.
Christian Vazquez - .598 OPS last year, and ice-cold so far with a .310 OPS.
Up to .441 OPS.
Down to a .386 OPS.
Xander - .790 OPS last year, .601 this year as a second-baseman.
.550 OPS. Still a second-baseman. Maybe.
.581 OPS. Fractured Shoulder.
E-Rod - a convincing 2023 campaign of 26 starts, but yet to take the field this year.
60-day IL.
Still injured - not yet throwing.
Renfroe - .710 OPS last year (two clubs), and doing nothing (literally) for KCR so far - a .000 OPS in 4 games.
.483 OPS
.565 OPS
JDM - A good 2023 when healthy which was not even 3/4 of the season (.893 in 113 games). Maybe he'll play some games for the Mets soon.
.635 OPS in 45 ABs.
.785 OPS - Go Mets!
Eovaldi - in JDM's boat with 25 starts and a 3.63 ERA, but healthy for an excellent post-season. His only start this year was good.
7 starts, 2.61 ERA. On the IL since 5/2.
Returned on 5/28 with a 3 inning start.
Enrique Hernandez - rebounded in 2023 for LAD, but off to a cold start this year: .413 OPS.
.573 OPS
.552 OPS
Wacha - A most-of-the-season starter for SD in 2023 (24 starts) his absences did not help the Padre cause. He's off to a rocky start in KCR with a 5.40 ERA.
8 starts, 5.15 ERA
12 starts, 4.24 ERA
Pham - signed late with the CWS and is off to a blistering .814 OPS in 54 ABs. He also has played 100 innings in CF.
.773 OPS - slipped below JD.
Guys not in the majors: JBJ, Plawecki, Arroyo (minors, Brewers).
It's the most played out, stupid line since "J.D. cares"Why can't we get guys like that!
Oh wait, that overplayed nonsense is only posted incessantly when guys leave and do well.
Turner still has time to turn it around, though. (I was indifferent about re-signing him.)Oh, and Justin Turner at 217/305/349. The “don’t sigh free agents” strategy is frustrating but kinda seems like the right one. Lot more misses than hits.
His ability to hit the fastball has increasingly deteriorated, and his bat speed is down to the bottom 1% of ML batters.Turner still has time to turn it around, though. (I was indifferent about re-signing him.)
Not going to go hunting for the quote, but I'm pretty sure Theo Epstein said after a few years with the Sox that if you hit more than 50% on your free agent picks you're doing very well. Words of wisdom as usual.
He's had quite a day.Pham - signed late with the CWS and is off to a blistering .814 OPS in 54 ABs. He also has played 100 innings in CF.
.773 OPS - slipped below JD.
And now out with a broken foot.Wacha has a better FIP this year in KC than he did last year in SD. He's been very, very good the last two years.
Pham's still in CF, so his dWAR is dragging down his overall value. His OPS+ is 109 at the moment, but his fWAR is 0.1 after 132 ABs.He's had quite a day.

Also, the ChiSox sent Benny to the IL with Anchilles tendonitis today. Hopefully he can get a bunch of minor-league "rehab" ABs and sort himself out.
It is? I don’t think of Duvall, Turner, Renfroe, or O’Neill underperforming but perhaps I’m not remembering a horrible home split or some advanced metric. This is where decent hitters come to underperform.
Clearly it's not a universal thing, and some hitters have gotten better. It is? I don’t think of Duvall, Turner, Renfroe, or O’Neill underperforming but perhaps I’m not remembering a horrible home split or some advanced metric.
Even Mookie is kind of slumping... and you have to notice that the crying has stopped. Why can't we get guys like that!
Oh wait, that overplayed nonsense is only posted incessantly when guys leave and do well.
We got told to "let it go" when he was playing well and we mentioned it, and now we're told "oh so you've stopped posting now that he's cooled off."Even Mookie is kind of slumping... and you have to notice that the crying has stopped.
I'd take a line-up of slumping Mookies over what the Red Sox are trotting out there this season. His "slump" over the last 28 days is a .754 OPS which would be 3rd on the Sox for full time players all year. Sheesh. He also leads the NL in WAR and is 3rd in all of baseball.

He fractured his shoulder and has been out for the last month also, at least one more month to go.Randomly checking in on Xander today -- he's played 2 innings at SS and otherwise has been at second (aside from 3 games at DH): 68 OPS, -.1 WAR
Ugh - thanks. No idea how I'd forgotten about that.He fractured his shoulder and has been out for the last month also, at least one more month to go.
He always finds a way to help his team win.Ugh - thanks. No idea how I'd forgotten about that.
This is so neat. Apparently the Mets have done nothing but win since they brought him up. Unfortunately, I can't understand anything other than Oh My God. A translation would be so welcome. The Sox could use his energy now.
Based on how the first half has gone for the Sox in general I'd argue that lizard, and his extended family, live at Fenway. Probably in the corner of the clubhouse where Sale's locker was and lockers belonging to Grissom, Story, Whitlock, and Casas are now. Many years ago, I read a short story in which a guy told his doctor that he had a live lizard in his chest that was ruining his health. The doctor tried to skirt the issue, but eventually, he told the patient, "I don't believe you."
And a lizard jumped out of the patient's chest and into the doctor's. The patient told the doc, "now you now how it starts, and how to get rid of it."
In Red Sox Nation, the injured beyond usefulness lizard jumped from Sale to Grissom when the trade happened. Is the only way to fix him to trade him elsewhere, so he, too, can become an All-Star?
