Damn, that feels like a lot for him. Good on him for tricking them.
Did he trick them or did he figure something out when he arrived there? 39 appearances, 38.2 IP, 0.70 ERA, 2.48 FIP, 0.724 WHIP. Pretty dominant performance.

Kinda reminiscent of what Chris Martin did for the Dodgers in the second half of 2022 (26 appearances, 24.2 IP, 1.46 ERA, 1.13 FIP, 0.527 WHIP). That netted him a two year deal with the Sox that's worked out pretty well so far.

So the final appearance of Kluber’s career ended up being the game against the Twins on 6/20 when he got his first career save. Getting your first save in the last game of your 13 year career is a cool way to go out.

Per Baseball-Reference.com Kluber made 89.8 million over his MLB career. Also per Baseball-Reference.com Kluber's best statistical match is Stephen Strasburg. Their numbers match up very well. Strasburg, per that site will have made 355.4 million over his MLB career when the Nationals finish paying off his contract.
I guess life can be wonderful and still be a bit unfair.

I suppose that's a better way of looking at it instead of saying he has an ERA north of 7 and provided absolutely nothing to the Red Sox last season.

What a horrible signing.

His 3 IP, 5 H, 4 ER (3 homers!) save will be remembered forever. Perhaps it can at least lead to abolishment of the ridiculous 3 innings to close a win save rule.

Does Vegas take bets on who leads the league in caught stealing? If Vazquez believes he's "fast," there's no stopping him from running into dumb outs all season.

Matt Barnes signs Minor League Contract with the Nationals, Add Richard Bleier as Non-roster invitee also

https://www.mlb.com/nationals/news/matt-barnes-hoping-for-nationals-bullpen-spot

Barnes pitched the first nine years of his career with the Red Sox, including winning the 2018 World Series and earning his first All-Star selection in 2021, during which he went 6-5 with a 3.79 ERA and 24 saves. The following season, though, he finished 0-4 with a 4.31 ERA and eight saves.

Boston traded Barnes to Miami for Richard Bleier -- who also is a non-roster invitee in Nats camp -- ahead of the 2023 season. After going 1-0 with a 5.48 ERA in 24 relief appearances, Barnes had season-ending surgery for a hip impingement last July.

That's the enigma of Chris Sale.

He can look great, then someone coughs on his and he's out 6 months.
Even ignoring those kinds of weird injuries, I'm not convinced that his arm/body can hold up under the physical stress that "being great" puts on them.

We'll see. I'm at peace with the trade for Grissom though, regardless of what Sale does or does not do in ATL.
I want Sale to succeed in Atlanta and I still really like the trade. I hope that both of them have really good seasons, Grissom for obvious reasons, but Sale because the league is more fun with more kickass left handed pitchers in it, and the Braves are a really fun team to watch.

Still fine with it. No matter what the outcomes it was a smart trade.

But Grissom should be back soon.
Your lips, God's ears.

If it happens that way, let's ask Him to give Grissom a fully-functional, Pedroia model 2B glove.

Matt Barnes makes the Nationals Opening Day Roster

https://www.masnsports.com/blog/three-veterans-officially-added-to-major-league-roster

The Nationals officially purchased the contracts of outfielders Eddie Rosario and Jesse Winker, plus reliever Matt Barnes, this morning, moving a step closer to finalizing their Opening Day roster.

Matt Barnes (the former Red Sox closer who was hampered by a hip injury last season with the Marlins) beat out Jacob Barnes, who didn’t make the club despite an 0.87 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings this spring.
