Tito said he won't make a decision in-season. Paraphrasing because I only saw the video of this, but he also something along the lines of "It takes a lot of effort to do everything the right way, and it bothers me that I don't think I can do that anymore." It sounded to me like the decision is already made.

Oddly, I think he's actually missed less time this season than in any of the past 5-6 years. I only recall him missing 2-3 games and that was more of a precaution and to run some tests. He's also said that he eventually needs a couple of more surgeries though. Before this week, I would have guessed he'd give it one more year to see what this team can do with better health and another year of experience. However, it's also been 3 years now since Sandy Alomar managed the team for 50+ games and then stepped back into his 1st base coaching duties. He's turned down better jobs to stay in Cleveland, appearing to be the heir apparent all along, so I'll be surprised if there are any other serious candidates. It was really this past year that I was surprised Tito stayed on.

Uhhhh.. Betts needs to get his story straight...

From his own mouth back in 2020

Here's what Betts told reporters earlier this week, including ESPN's Alden Gonzalez and The Athletic's Andy McCullough:
MLB payrolls are expected to shrink going forward as teams deal with the financial fallout of the pandemic. Top-tier free agents like Betts are still going to get paid and paid well, though perhaps not quite as well as originally thought. Despite that, Mookie says he has no regrets about rejecting a reported 10-year, $300 million offer from the Red Sox last offseason.
"I don't regret turning down that," Betts said. "Once I make a decision, I make a decision. I'm not going back and questioning myself. I don't worry about that. The market will be what the market is. We'll just cross that bridge when we get there. But for right now, it's just the safety and health that I'm worried about."
The Red Sox made several attempts to sign Betts long-term over the years. They offered him a $200 million contract back in 2017, the year before he won MVP, and they reportedly offered $300 million later. Betts was said to be seeking north of $400 million, which wasn't crazy seeing how he's arguably the second-best player in MLB and Mike Trout recently signed a $430 million contra

Or maybe both are true... the team made it clear they were comfortable doing something in the $300m range & his side made it clear that he would need something in the $400m range to forgo free agency, so negotiations broke down & the Red Sox looked for other options to fix their unsustainable roster construction.

Which sadly meant moving on from Mookie. Without a formal offer of $300m ever being extended.

Key word there is "reportedly offered $300 million later." Maybe they did and Mookie is BSing. Maybe the offer wasn't actually $300 million as the team has said.
Wording is interesting because in the ESPN link it says "Betts reportedly turned down a $300 million extension from the Red Sox last offseason, but said he does not regret it." Which reads more like the offer of $300 mil was real. Im not trying to debate your overall point, more just an observation of simply changing the location of the word "reportedly" changes the meaning a bit.

Oh sure, I can see that.

At the moments of our deaths, instead of receiving total consciousness or discovering the meaning of life, the truth about Mookie will be revealed to us all.

Speaking of Mookie, he’s got a five hit game today bringing him to .308/.402/.604 now. Just a monster season for the guy.

1st in the NL in WAR
5th in BA
5th in OBP
1st in SLG
1st in OPS
2nd in runs scored
3rd in HR

He may not win the MVP over Acuna, but it's going to be a close race for the award. He's on pace for the 2nd best season of his career.

He’s a pretty good player. Probably why the Sox wanted to keep him, why he was looking for more, and why he got a lot in the end.

Hope he gets the multiple standing ovations he deserves and both sides can continue to move on.

Ok but how does that reconcile with Mookie saying this:
"I don't regret turning down that," Betts said.
What is “that” in this scenario?

I understand why people don’t want to believe it but I just don’t think he actually wanted to stay and I think—for once—the team didn’t shit on the player on the way out the door. Which is why it’s been only the media and Mookie talking about this.

Anyway, I’m taking my girls tomorrow night, first game we’ve all been to together since the 11-run inning game agains the Marlins in 2018. Looking forward to cheering Mookie on.

I agree with you for the record, I was just taken aback by how differently the two sentences read because of the word placement.

Mookie is smart.
He has a smart management team.

He's not gonna spend the next 3 days dropping bombs on his former team, whom also happens to(sometimes) be a major spending team

Game time! Guess who this is:

29 G, 30.1 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 13 H, 7 BB, .89 ERA, 491 ERA+

Hint: He plays in LA.

It's Ryan Brasier's line for the Dodgers

Lasted longer than JBJ though.
WTF!

There is no 2018 flag without JBJ doing massive damage. Minimal hits, massive damage and great glove AND arm!

For several years it was a joy to not have a noodle arm with overrated speed and limited ability to track a fucking baseball roaming Fenways CF. I don't enjoy the continual JBJ dumping, Renfroe was a big arm no aim poser and cost more runs than he saved. JBJ has earned bullet proof status and yet the BS on this site rolls on. In my mind, Joe Castig preaches the JBJ truth. Fuck you haters!

Looking to the future, Duran is not a MLB outfielder and has no business being allowed to play CF or RF at Fenway for a team trying to win. Trade him!
