Mookie is on pace to score 173 runs, the most since Babe Ruth in 1921.

2.5 WAR already with only a quarter of the season gone by.
He is getting on base only slightly more often than usual (298/373/601 so far this year versus 296/373/522 for his career), but the secret sauce is what happens after that.

For his career, Betts scores 40% of the time that he gets on base (excluding hitting home runs), versus the MLB average of 30% (per B-Ref). But so far this year, he's scoring at a 51% clip. Unreal.

His baserunning was always elite, I assume the increase is to due both that and the quality of the teammates behind him.

Do you ever wonder what happened to all of the marginal players from the 2015 Red Sox? Old friends Alejandro de Aza, Rusney Castillo, Deven Marrero, Sam Travis (farmhand in 2015 who later made the show) and Austin Rei (3rd-round draft pick in 2015 who never made the show) are all playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, which is independent but an official “MLB Partner League.” I saw them all today in the starting lineup, facing off against the Staten Island Ferry Hawks. They are looking well. Travis and de Aza are having good years and could probably at least help a AAA team. In the 8th inning, the Ferry Hawks brought in Kelsie Whitmore to pitch. She is the first woman to play in an MLB-affiliated league. She has mostly struggled so far in limited action, but today she retired Rei, Marrero, and de Aza around a couple of walks, recording her first scoreless inning.

Indeed, the picture becomes a lot clearer when you look at the full view instead of narrowly focusing on only the parts that didn't go well.
Or the parts that do. We pretty much know what he is by now anyway, a 130-140 OPS+ hitter who will be worth 6-7 wins. At least for the foreseeable future.

"Tigers pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez’s appearance on the restricted list is related to a marital issue, according to sources, and there’s no timetable yet for his return.

Rodriguez appeared set to return to the mound from a rib injury when the marital issue arose, and the team granted his request to take time to attend to the private matter. The team has not said anything publicly about Rodriguez’s absence beyond it being related to a “personal matter.” It was learned that personal matter is marriage related."

Michael Chavis has 6 HR and a 117 OPS+ as PIT's starting 1b. Might've given up on him a bit too early.

Schwarber is on one of his streaks right now, 2 homers tonight and now up to 212/335/496 with 18 homers. On pace for 46 homers, 102 bb, and 205 k.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Who helps this team more right now, Chavis or Austin Davis?
Chavis has also be used at 2B and 3B. He'd be Dalbec's replacement. If the scenario had been Dalbec for Davis (and change) I think that would have worked out better - to date. But hopefully Dalbec will go on a tear that makes that sound absurd.

Funny we haven't heard anything from the Bloom haters as Betts Benintendi and Renfroe have all regressed hard at the plate lately. Renfroe leads the 3 with a whopping .636 ops in June

True, of course a .636 ops is dead even with Verdugo’s ‘22, higher than Bradley and Hernandez, but 33 points lower than Franchy. Hasn’t been a banner year for Red Sox OF past or present, although Betts is pretty decent :)

Kind of interesting to read that he cracked it on Wednesday night and that it had nothing to do with his recent slump. Usually you hear about an injury and it explains recent performance, but he wasn't playing through it.

Kimbrel was really fun to watch when he was on in 2016-17. But he was terrifying through most of the second half/last third of 2018.

The Daniel Bard thing is still incredible to me.

1.98 ERA, .98 WHIP, has allowed 14 hits in 27 innings. Red Sox do have quite a need in the bullpen…

Honestly I’d rather Bard continue to have success in Colorado. Boston is where things went to hell for him; Colorado is where he found his form again. Im incredibly happy for his success.
