New threads are the best. 2022 edition here!
His career average may have dipped below .300 this year but he’s still bowling 300s

@brwalkoff

Incredible.

@mookiebetts spent his Sunday bowling a perfect 300
Looking at the other scores, he’s playing against some competition
Moved Jon Lester retirement discussion to the thread on the Main Board.
Also, Nationals add Bill Mueller as the newly added "quality control coordinator"
Brian Daubach is the Nationals Triple-A Hitting Coach
They should have Daubach coach the hitters in two weeks increments.

I just took a look at Rusney's B Ref and I have to say that I was surprised to see that he played in 80 games (started 67) for the Sox in '15. I've no recollection of him getting that much playing time in the majors.

To be fair, that team was out of it early and was easy to overlook as the season went on. Once they traded Victorino (who also spent time on the IL), Castillo became the regular RF. Then when Hanley got hurt toward the end of August, he moved to LF with Bradley and Betts handling CF/RF interchangeably.

Speaking of the forgotten 2015 team, I caught a classic Sox re-broadcast on NESN the other day of a 22-10 win against Seattle in 2015. The reason it got the replay treatment was JBJ got five extra base hits. The "who the hell is that guy" moment for me came when the day's starting LF came to the plate: Alejandro De Aza.

Didn't even realize he was still playing. The article cleared this up for me though
The news is a bit unexpected since Gonzalez hasn’t played in a major league game since 2018. Most fans probably assumed he was already retired. Granted, his former Red Sox teammate, Jonathan Papelbon, has been out of the game for even longer and still refuses to accept that he’s retired. A player’s career isn’t truly over until they say it is.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
Seriously has to be one of the top five slowest runners the sox have ever had. Led the league in GIDP the full year he was here, and everyone single one of them was somehow more painful than the one that preceded it.

Thanks for your contribution in the Punto deal, tortoise.

For those waiting on word of Nick (“The Shredder”) Punto’s retirement, apparently it already happened. Six years ago.

I, for one, am incredibly butthurt that Red Sox fans were not saluted in Nick’s farewell. Though the article below is kind of sweetly amusing.

Dear God, please bring back baseball already.

Doesn’t look that way. Wikipedia says :

Contrary to speculation,[69][70][71] Henderson's refusal to officially retire had not been delaying his eligibility for Hall of Fame induction. Since the 1970s, the five-year waiting period has been based on major league service only.

My colleague and buddy moved to Coto de Coza in OC a few years ago. We had lunch last week and he was talking about all of the athletes whose kids go to his kids’ school. His son is good friends with Ryan Getzlaf’s kid etc. Anyways, he also mentioned that one of his closest friends whom he golfs with twice a week is. . . . Nick Punto. I just started laughing when he asked if I knew who he was and remembered him playing for the Red Sox.

Was kind of surprised, as he seemed involved in the last CBA negotiations Figured he was looking to catch on somewhere.

Jeez. Wish him the best of luck but kind of makes his musings of the last year ring a little hollow, no?
How so? He clearly had doubts / disappointment when he was demoted which can lead to frustration / disconnectedness and other mental health issues. He took time away and realized his love for the game or job and more importantly seems to be in a 'better place.'

Daniel Bard is on trying to close out the Dodgers in Denver.

And is successful

And Nomar is one of the two post-game Dodgers analysts.

Daniel Bard, Certified Closer, is off to a great start for the Rockies. At 37yo, he's pitches 6ip with 7ks, no walks (!), and 5 hits while averaging 97 mph on his fastball.
