Funny you should say that. Because of the Montas post I looked up the trade he went for:

07-30-2013 Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Boston Red Sox with Cleuluis Rondon (minors) and J.B. Wendelken to the Chicago White Sox. The Detroit Tigers sent Avisail Garcia to the Chicago White Sox. The Detroit Tigers sent Brayan Villarreal to the Boston Red Sox. The Chicago White Sox sent Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox sent Jose Iglesias to the Detroit Tigers.

Probably the most important single event to come out of the trade came in 2013 Game 6 ALCS 7th inning by Iggy.

Next thing you know they're playing Three little Birds and Victorino does his thing.
If you want to re watch that inning (or the entire game) here you go

What the hell happened to Michael Chavis? Was he optioned to the worst team in MLB’s AAA team?

Brock Holt just pitched one shutout inning for the Rangers against the A's, allowing one hit. As he was leaving the field, he offered his glove to the umpire in case he wanted to check it for foreign substances.

After that 31 mph eephus pitch for a called strike, they should be checking him for foreign substances.

Four players have played all nine positions... in a single game.

(As of 2010.)
It's something I thought the Sox could have done with Holt in 2014 when the season was lost and one of the highlights was Holt and his versatility. It has to be planned in advance since it requires some shuffling of other players, but as a stunt in the final game of the season, it would have been fun. The game was meaningless as both the Sox and Yankees were eliminated from post-season contention. And they had the benefit of the 40-man roster so substitutions to move Holt around were easier to accomplish.

I think the end of expanding September rosters to 40 probably makes it unlikely we ever see it again.

I love the stat box they put up for Holt with his career pitching numbers.

Craig Kimbrel gives up a monster HR to Aaron Judge. He now has a 5.40 ERA with the CWS, 4 ERs in 6.2 innings, 2 HRS allowed after only allowing one HR in his 36.2 innings with the Cubs. Is a relief pitcher ever worth $16 million? Wild that the CWS gave up Madrigal for this guy

The White Sox seem to be operating as if their window is closing despite the relatively young roster they have. It's like they're desperate to win before their manager keels over.

Wonder if they will try to flip Kimbrel in the off-season? Weird thing is that both Kimbrel and Hendricks have been awful since the trade.

His arrival has also coincided with once dependable closer Liam Hendiricks shitting all over himself lately.

Steven Wright released from AAA by the Pirates. Was great until he ran the bases in LA in 2016, multiple injuries after that, a PED suspension, and a domestic incident.

He is 36 yrs old now, though knuckleballers can last a long time. He still sports a 115 ERA+ for his career. His 2018 stats actually show him as still being very good when healthy up to that point.

Is there anybody else out there throwing the knuckleball as their main out pitch?

Andriese seems to have been pretty unlucky with the Sox. Not that I wanted him to stick around but his BB and K rates were quite good, the HR not so much though….

Kimbrel gives up 3 ERs off 2 HRs last night. He has a 7.15 ERA with the White Sox.

Lester got win #198 yesterday. He's had a rough season, but he gave up only one hit in 6.2 IP (a 2nd inning homer).

Seeing that, my first thought was "hey, the Red Sox need middle infielders" so I looked at what he's done this year. .259/.295/.375/.670, 82 OPS+ Not out of the ordinary and if he's playing great D, it's almost passable. Then I looked at his defensive stats. -21 DRS. -4.9 UZR.

Yikes. No wonder the Angels cut bait.
He’s only 31, how did his defense crater already?

Lavarnway with a Hall of Shame level performance tonight... caused a run to score in the 1st inning when he illegally touched the baseball with his mask and then forced another run across the plate in the 4th inning on catcher's interference. It wasn't even the typical interference you see where the bat ticks the tip of the mitt, the end of the bat actually scraped across most of his forearm. Roberto Perez has already been on a long rehab stint, so I wouldn't be surprised if that ends Lavarnway's stay in Cleveland.

A down year for Mookie, but he still will look like he'll have about a 5.0 bWAR season in LA. An OPS+ of 142, defense still looks good. I miss him a lot.
