According to the Boston Globe, the Tigers added catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia for the major league minimum of $507,500.

Middlebrooks to Brewers on a minor league deal. Looked like a guy with 40 HR potential when he first came up and now he's settling for a minor league deal.

Interesting that the Red Sox are NOT on Jonathan Papelbon's no trade list. Not that the Sox need or want him, but you'd think he had some hard feelings and would want to extort some extra money out of the Sox if they did trade for him.

Papelbon can block deals to the following clubs: the Athletics, Blue Jays, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Giants, Indians, Marlins, Orioles, Phillies, Pirates, Rangers, Rockies, Tigers, Twins, White Sox and Yankees. The league’s remaining teams can acquire the controversial veteran without his approval.

More likely that he figured they wouldnt want him back after the way things ended, so might as well not waste a spot putting them on the list. It's like getting 18 spots for the price of 17!

Happy for Nava getting a second 7 figure payday. One of those stories that shows thee American dream isn't quite dead yet.

Nava to Angels on a one year $1.375 million major league deal.

Shocked he got that, I was expecting a minor league deal, ST invite and about $900K if he made a team.

Nava + Gentry for ~$2.5M = fair left fielder

Assuming they strictly platoon them...Gentry has a career .720 OPS against lefties, Nava has a career .787 OPS against righties.

Statements from Arte Moreno lately seem to indicate the Angels aren't going to be spending this winter unless they drop some payroll (CJ Wilson, for one). They're dangerously close to the luxury tax cap and apparently don't want to go over. This might be the best they can do on the cheap.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Good for Nava. He was effective against righties as recently as 2014 and is only 32. It seems like a decent bet to make that he'll bounce back enough to preform as half a platoon.

It's amazing how bad that Pujols contract looks. Although it's not as bad as paying Hamilton $28 mil not to play for them for the next two years.

Mobile, so no links, but:

Jerry Sands (of Punto trade fame) DFA'd by the Indians

Brad Penny ( that one?) signed by the Blue Jays

Nick Hagadone joins other Sox castoffs by signing a ML contract with the Brewers.
