Collateral damage from the Paps trade, the Nats DFA'd Dan Butler.

And Victorino played LF for the Angels last night, I don't recall him playing LF for the Sox at all.
That's correct, Victorino played LF sporadically for the Phillies and 48 games with the Dodgers, but never with the Sox.

A few ex Sox made moves yesterday:

Bronson Arroyo was traded to the Dodgers by Atlanta where he was placed on the 60 day DL

Brandon Moss was traded from Cleveland to St. Louis

Jed Lowrie was activated off of the 60 day DL by Houston

And, of course with Correa up at ss for Houston, Lowrie moves to third base.

It would be interesting to see if Hinojosa gets enough run to compare his usefulness to the other flotsam and jetsam the Red Sox cycled through this year (Aro and Ramirez). Not that it matters a whole bunch but it is another small datapoint in the ongoing assessment of the pro scouting staff.

Lester pitching, Ross catching in the windy city, bringing back memories of good times. Posey got to second on a wind blown high popup and glared out at his fielders, in kind of his buddy Lackey's style. Posey scored, 1 - 1. Maddon has Lester batting 8th.

Former Scouting Director for the Red Sox, David Chadd, has been promoted to Asst. GM under Detroit's new GM Al Avila.

Chadd, hired by Dombrowski a decade ago as amateur scouting director, has taken on more responsibility over the years from drafting to scouting to player evaluation and development. He spent the past few years as vice president of amateur scouting as well as a special assistant.

There's a fan sitting next to me at the Dodgers game in an honest to god Nick Punto jersey

I remember loving the Arroyo trade when it was made. Pena had big time power, needed a little work... but it ended up being pretty bad. Arroyo was signed to a more than reasonable 3 year deal, and had a solid run over that time.

There's been a lot of talk made about Ben being a gambler, and I tend to like that mentality... this was one of Theo's gambles, and one that didn't really pay off. It seems to me though, that when Theo gambled he did so wisely. Maybe that's just hindsight, but he traded for Jeremy Giambi and signed Ortiz gambling that one would become a legitimate DH. He hedged his bets with two guys. He had Shea Hillenbrand who was pretty good in 2002 (4.2 WAR according to BBRef) to play 3B, but he added Bill Mueller for peanuts. If Mueller played well and Shea played well Shea could DH or move to 1B... Basically he had a lot of moving parts that could play off each other. When Ben gambles it seems like he does so without a decent backup plan.

What was Theo's backup plan for the enormous contract for Crawford?

Nap had a big home run Wednesday, part of the three-consecutive variety!  Mooreland, Nap & Andrus.

Richard Justice tweet: Rangers trailed 7 teams in AL Wild Card 3 weeks ago.
Now they've won 14 of 20 to pass 5 teams.

Cespedes 5-6 for Mets with 3 HR Friday night.
Watched the highlights last night. Of the 6 AB's, 5 were balls hit to RF (including the warning track out), the other was the HR to CF. Didn't pull anything all night. Very impressive to hit a HR to dead center and 2 more opposite field in the same game.

Currently sporting a .297/.326/.519 line on the season as well.

Makes you wonder how many times a day Ben finds himself speculating out a big game of "if i had taken a keep him left there instead of a right this offseason........".

It's a sss, but he's alive!

So far in Texas, Mike Napoli has good stats. In 11 games and 22 at bats, he has 7 hits, 1 double, and 2 home runs. His slash line is .318/.400/.636 for an OPS of 1.036.

He's doing even better than that if you take out his PH appearances.  He's 0 fer 6 as a pinch hitter,

It's almost the end of August, so a monthly Iggy-update is in order. For the season, he is doing well. Thus far, his stats read:

G      AB    BA      OBP    SLG    OPS   OPS+
116   403   .303   .350    .375    .725    102

And, Iggy has 17 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homers to his credit. He also has 43K and 25BB.

EDIT: I can't read stat lines.
