So, just to keep track--he's spent time on the 40 man for Boston, LAD, Chicago and Baltimore this offseason. Four teams in 18 days and is now unemployed. That's a roller coaster offseason.

Wasn't there a guy a year or two ago who bounced around to like 7 teams in three weeks - including the Sox and Cubs? Name escapes me

Sandy Rosario?

Just to clarify, players don't lose their jobs when they're designated for assignment. That's merely one of the downstream possibilities.

If they're claimed on waivers (as has happened for Lavarnway 3 times this winter) they keep their job and remain on a 40-man roster, with commensurate salary and MLB benefits. If they clear waivers and are reassigned to a minor league affiliate, they keep their job albeit at a lower salary and with weaker benefits. If they clear waivers but have enough service time to refuse any minor league assignment, or if the team releases them, then they become free agents -- and hence, unemployed.

Lars Anderson had quite the odyssey after the Sox cut bait, although that was spread out more over a calendar year and wasn't strictly DFAs.

Speak of the devil, Lars just signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers.

The wrong side of the bridge....
With Drake Britton joining the Cubs, the number of former Red Sox players or farmhands on their 40-man now stands (if I'm not missing anybody) at 6.

Chicago baseball fans can now choose between the White Sox and the Ex Sox.

Stop me if you've heard this before. The Cubs have actually signed a former Red Sox. According to MLBTR

Jonathan Herrera come on down!

Cuzzitt isn't going to be happy with you for missing out on another ex Sox farmhand signing with the Cubbies. They also inked Exene's nephew, Hunter Cervenka.
 And Anthony Carter.

Doesn't this seem a bit weird? Normally you'd have a tie to the organization, other than through 312 ex-Red Sox playing and working there, right?

Not sure how many here remember RHP Adam Bernero. He signed with the Sox as a free agent prior to 2007, having spent parts of 7 seasons in the majors, but missed the entire year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in spring training. Boston let him go the following October and he hitched on with the Pirates for one brief final fling before hanging up his cleats. He was also the spitting image of Damian Lewis on Homeland:

He's now a baseball & training consultant in Bend, Oregon (with Oregon Baseball Academy and Baseball Dudes) and the pitching coach for Mountain View High School in Bend.

And while checking out spots in Alaska for a possible vacation, I just learned he spends his summers as a fishing/wilderness guide at Redoubt Mountain Lodge.

Watching MLBN, Dodgers vs. White Sox and Eric Bedard is trying to make the Dodgers.  I wish I was a lefty.

I'm not gonna lie, I would love to see Bard get it right.  Even if it is for the Cubs.  i feel like I say this every year, though.

Man. If anything will clear your head, it's a 470 mile bike ride. I did a 300 mile ride awhile back and I swear it was the most emotionally and mentally grounded time of my life. Good for Daniel Bard. Hope he makes it to Chicago.

Wily Mo Pena cranked a home run today for Rakuten. I had a "WTF???" moment as it registered who I was looking at on TV.... He looks fatter. It was nice to see him being productive and seemingly wanted.

Watched Ryan Lavarnway screw himself into the ground twice striking out both times up playing for the O's. Also had a weak throw on a SB.

Not a former Red Sox per se but Yaz's grandson Mike was 0-1 for the O's.

"Mm... 'member when the Red Sox traded Miles Head to the A's in the Reddick-Bailey deal? And everyone, like, pretty much freaked out about giving him up? And... and... and then he started kicking even more ass in high-A ball like right after the trade? And they were all saying he was, like, gonna be a total stud for Oakland and stuff, and they got even more pissed off about it??"

"That was awesome..."

A's release Miles Head

Part of the trade bounty from the Andrew Bailey trade with the Red Sox after the 2011 season, Miles Head put up a big year at high Class A Stockton in 2012, hitting .382 with 18 homers in 67 games to earn a midseason promotion. His tenure with the Athletics is over, though, after a pair of injury-wracked years at Double-A Midland. All told, Head hit .233/.292/.352 with 14 homers in 624 plate appearances for the RockHounds in parts of three Texas League seasons.

Daniel Bard had a rough outing in the B game. Hit a batter, walked 2, threw 2 wild pitches and threw wild to first on a pickoff attempt
