Guthrie is half Japanese, so he may be getting in touch w/ his mother's roots.

Also, re the above, I didn't know the game I watched from the sixth on was an exhibition, and I wasn't really criticizing Farrell, just noting what happened. Boy, am I glad the days of Franklin Morales, Red Sock, are over.

Reymond Fuentes traded to the Royals for LHP Kyle Bartsch.  Both are 23, but Fuentes was in AAA by the end of the year, while Bartsch was a college kid pitching decently in relief in High-A.  Not sure what the Padres gained from this unless they needed the 40-man spot that badly.

Man, that was tough to read. So sad.
I was going to make an awful joke regarding his coaching at 3b, but this made me hold up on that:

At this writing, Wendell Kim (shown in picture, left, in a more recent picture with a care giver) can no longer walk, speak, or perform any tasks for himself. He lives in a home that specializes in caring for people with his needs. His condition had somewhat stabilized, but recently he has taken a turn for the worse.

“Unfortunately, there is no miracle cure for him as the disease has progressed so far,” said Weber.

His family visits him often, but he likely does not remember them.

That's awful.

Lavarnway claimed by the Dodgers.  This may mean bad things for FedX, the last former Sox C prospect who the Dodgers picked up.

Jed Lowrie will sign a 3-year deal with HOU worth $23M. It includes a $6M club option with a $1M buyout.

If the Astros exercise it, over the four years Jed Fucking Lowrie will have been paid about $2M less than the ~$30M Dustin Pedroia earned from his MLB debut through the 2013 season.

$5 million for Capuano on top of $10 million for Anderson. If I had a boy I would tie his right arm behind his back and force him to lefthanded.

Michael Bowden signs minor league deal with Reds after spending 2014 in Japan.  Hope he gets to stick around, he's been effective since becoming a reliever and while he'll never be an all star  he is a guy that you can count some  decent relief innings.

The Yankees acquire RHRP David Carpenter from the Braves (for Manny Banuelos).

Carpenter was part of the compensation exchange between the Sox & Jays when Boston hired John Farrell (with IF Mike Aviles going to TOR). The Sox DFA'd Carpenter later that winter, tried to pass him through waivers, and the Braves claimed him. He's first-year arb-eligible after putting up a 67/16 K/BB and .256/.310/.353/.663 opponents' line in 61 IP last year.
