Adios, muchacho...

The Alfredo Aceves era is officially over in Boston as he signs a minor league deal with the Orioles.

That brings the number of 2013 Red Sox acquired by Baltimore this winter to five: Michael Almanzar in the Rule 5 draft, and Quintin Berry, Brock Huntzinger, Ronald Bermudez & Aceves as free agents.

Tito's Red Sox Reunion continues in Cleveland as David Aardsma signs a minor league deal with the Indians and gets a Spring Training NRI.

He joins players Nick Hagadone, Justin Masterson, Bryan Price, Mike Aviles, David Murphy & Scott Atchison; and coaches Brad Mills, Kevin Cash, Jason Bere & Alan Zinter. Rich Hill and Kelly Shoppach remain unsigned as free agents (Matt Albers already signed with the Astros).

Theo gets another binky back as Lars Anderson signs a minor league deal with the Cubs.

Theo is collecting as many ex Sox as Tito is:  Mitch Maier, Ryan Kalish, Ryan Sweeney, George Kottaras, and Darnell McDonald (who was outrighted, elected free agency, and then resigned as a free agent), have all hooked on with the Cubs since the end of last season.

I say this without knowing how many teams called but Texas would be among the last places I would have expected Bard to attempt a comeback.

“@dakern74: Yes, Julio Lugo just hit a three-run homer to score Ronny Paulino and Emilio Bonifacio. What year is this? @cantpredictball #SerieDelCaribe”

Back in 2012, Nick Hagadone broke his forearm after a rage-driven outburst (reports vary from "he punched a concrete wall" to "he tried to slam a door further than it would go"). So the Indians put him on the minor league disqualified list, meaning (a) he'd only be paid at the minor league rate rather than as the 40-man player he was at the time of the injury, and (b) he wouldn't earn any major league service time. The MLBPA filed a grievance on his behalf, and Hagadone and the union have prevailed over the club. So now he gets back pay and service time (as if he were on the major league DL), but the Indians get an option back.

Covelli signs an extension that could keep him with the A's through 2017.

The Athletics have signed center fielder Coco Crisp to a two-year contract extension, the team announced. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says it is worth $22.75 million. The deal includes a vesting option for a third year based on plate appearances.
Crisp, 34, was scheduled to become a free agent next offseason. The Athletics exercised his $7.5 million club option earlier this winter and now have him locked up through potentially 2017.
