No surprise, didn't take long, etc.

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Lyle Overbay -- released this morning by Red Sox -- has signed with Yankees, as first reported by @eboland11.

FWIW, it's a minor league deal.

Career ERA a shade under 7, 3 career saves. Oops.

Hansen's first pitch in the Major Leagues:

96!!!

Wooh!

That was a nice looking strike one.

hey, 96 mph strike, i'll take it... check that, 97 on the 2nd!

He K's the first MLB batter he faces, swinging

Hard not to like that. Pure gas, and some movement on the first pitch strike

Hall is the first of many, many victims for Craig Hansen.

He just struck out Hall. Hall had only 16Ks entering the game in 401 AB. Nice job, kid.
Impressive. That 85 mph slider mixed in with 96+ fastball is unfair.

After inducing a weak popup from the second batter, Lugo K's swinging to end Craig's first inning:
I HEART CRAIG HANSEN!! That was unreal!
Wow. I have seen the future of the Red Sox bullpen and his name is Craig Hansen.
97 oh My!

What a debut
Nip chimes in with simply:
I haven't been this excited about seeing a guy pitch since we signed that guy a few years ago. . can't remember his name, , , number 45?
My thoughts exactly. All talent. Imagine a few years working with pro coaches.

Blue Jays trade Lars Anderson to White Sox who then send him to AAA.

So since July 31 Lars' travels have taken him:

Manny Delcamern is starting the year at Baltimore's AAA Norfolk Tides.  He didn't even get one inning of big league spring training action this year.
What happened to this guy?  He threw mid-90's with a good curve.  Surprising he hasn't been in the majors since 2010.

I sure don't miss that. Crawford also 3 for 4 in that game. I'm not sure he ever went 3 for 4 with the Sox.

Ryan Pressly, drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB June Amateur Draft, just did a very nice job in his mlb debut, closing out the Twins' win against the Tigers. Nice movement on his pitches.

The A's are a bit over the top with all the hair, pies in faces, etc., It's like they're desperately trying to build back the fanbase they had in the bash brothers days. Unfortunately, after a sellout in the opener with King Felix pitching, they couldn't top 15 thousand something fans in any of the other three games with Seattle. OK, it was Seattle. Owner Lew Wolff the other day said he wants to keep the team in the Bay Area, come hell or high water. Again though,The Giants are unrelenting on giving up rights to San Jose, so where oh where? Build a new stadium in Oakland? With what money? This is a post for the Adopt a Team A's thread, really, but is there one?

I watched the Dodgers game last night and was reminded of how terrible Nick Punto really is. Not having him makes the Red Sox so, so, so much better. Why does Punto wear a major league baseball uniform?
One of the games against the Giants, Mattingly sent Punto up to pinch hit late, and I was thinking that's grounds for firing. Well, combined with a lot of other dumb moves over the course of seasons. But Punto got a hit! Mattingly does not impress me AT ALL though.

To call Punto a AAAA player would be a huge compliment.

Youk with another hit today. Obviously very early but nobody should be surprised that he wasn't done and just needed health.

Tremendous signing by Cashman, and one that was blatantly obvious in my opinion. Not sure why the White Sox didn't keep him or why he was never considered as depth for the Red Sox... Play first, third and DH.

Because Youk considers himself a starter and is getting paid starter's money ($13 million) this year to be a starter for the Yankees.

HOUSTON -- A's right fielder Josh Reddick exited Sunday's game in the bottom of the fifth inning after crashing into the wall while going after a foul ball.

Reddick used his right arm to brace his body for the impact of the wall, and he looked to be cradling that arm when walking off the field with a trainer, though his exact injury was not immediately known.

Upon Reddick's exit, Yoenis Cespedes was brought in to play left field and Seth Smith moved to right. (mlb.com)
