No, what he's saying is he wasn't tough enough to handle the pressure of playing in Boston (where we sell out every game, as opposed to LA, where folks show up late and leave early), and it was depressing for him being hurt.
Yes but it comes of in a way that sounds like he's blaming Boston

* After 20 years away from the game, former Sox outfielder Tom Brunansky, best remembered for his game-saving catch in the right-field corner that put the Sox in the playoffs in 1990, is back in baseball as the Twins’ new hitting coach. The guy who hit the ball that Brunansky caught with a sliding catch? Ozzie Guillen.

Paps thinks the Phillies have no veteran leadership. http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/2013-articles/february/jonathan-papelbon-thinks-the-phillies-have-no-leadership.html

"Since I've been here I haven't seen any leadership. Every good team that I've been a part of has had a good core group of veterans and an influx of a good group of young guys and I think that's a recipe for success," he said. "But at the same time, that doesn't mean we're going to have success. In my opinion, this team has way more to lose than to prove. I think a lot of guys on this team have proved a lot. But I think this year if we don't go out and do what we're capable [of] and supposed to do, then we have a lot more to lose.

It's surprising to hear this, you'd figure with guys on their team like Halladay and Lee, someone would step up.

And on that note...: Valentine Will Add Athletic Director to His Résumé

In October, standing next to the Yankee Stadium infield before one of his last games as manager of the Boston Red Sox, Bobby Valentine was asked what he would do next if he were fired when the season ended.

“I don’t know,” said Valentine, who was let go three days later. “But it will be something interesting. Those are the only kinds of jobs I take.”

Valentine, the part-time restaurateur and broadcaster, former public safety official, longtime major league manager in two countries and self-proclaimed inventor of the wrap sandwich, has kept his word with another unorthodox career choice. Even by Valentine’s standards, it was a thunderbolt of the unexpected.

Beginning in July, Valentine will be the athletic director for Sacred Heart University, a Division I program in Fairfield, Conn., with 31 sports. Valentine, 62, grew up in Stamford, about 20 miles away. It will be Valentine’s first collegiate administrative job.

Damon offers to fill in for Curtis Granderson:

"You guys know that I would have tons of interest to go to New York," Damon told Kay and co-host Don LaGreca. "But I just don't think they would be interested. I'm not exactly sure what happened over the years or something. They have had plenty of opportunities and I kept raising my hand, wanting to go back and, you know, hopefully it would be a perfect fit. It always had been. Have me for six weeks and then send me off on my merry way. That's fine."

Manny will not quit

Manny Ramirez has a verbal agreement to sign with the EDA Rhinos of the China Professional League, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com reports. However, the agreement won't be completed until March 7th. Ramirez has until that date to reach a deal with an MLB team, but he expressed optimism about playing in Taiwan.

I was under the impression Crawford was supposed to miss a few months and that's why the Sox were giving the Dodgers cash?
I didn't know this and from the fact that he may miss opening day is news, I tend to think this is wrong. I may be wrong however, I'd have to check into this

K rate skyrocketed to start 2012 then shut down with elbow issues in mid-April. Came back for 30ip in San Diego, shut down again at the end of the season when he was supposed to pitch in the AFL. Looks like he'd have been better off getting TJS back then.

I wonder if he's going to get the chance to start this season. David Cooper just got released, Lars is hitting pretty well so far this spring and his biggest competition is Adam Lind
Edit:Although Lind is hitting a lot better so maybe not

Is the lure of more American money so important to DiceK. Why wouldn't the guy go back home to Japan and pitch there. Or maybe because of his overall performance here that he is disgraced over there and no one wants him. I remember before a game when DiceK was pitching pretty well for the Sox and he drove up in a $200,000 + Bentley. He got out of the car, let the attendant park it, then looked at us with such superiority. What an entitled jerk! He still needs an interpreter after all these years too.

On the bright side, Carl Crawford had two hits on Sunday, including a solo home run, in his second start in left field after missing most of 2012 following surgery on his (left) throwing elbow. He also made a handful of solid throws from the outfield.

On a less promising note, starter Josh Beckett gave up seven runs on six hits in four innings of Los Angeles’ 7-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

So much for Crawford starting the season on the DL.
