Following Former Patriots

Not that he was at all what the patriots needed or were looking for last year, but there were times when Cordarelle Patterson was lining up at running back. Surprised we did that least hear about the possibility of bringing in Vereen.

Jimmy G with an excellent performance against KC.
Mullens wasn’t bad either.
Jimmy G definitely played much better than the previous week.
I watched that entire game and he made two wonderful throws (one being a TD), but he also threw a pass on 4th and 1 right into the line.
And the only excellent QB last night plays for KC.

Edit: I only brought up Mullens because I wanted to point out the fact that (I know it is only preseason) it is possible that the KC defense still isn’t very good.

It can be really hard to tell what’s suicide and what’s overdose.

The real takeaway I guess is holiday can exacerbate depression and addiction issues, so we should all take time to reach out to people we know who may be battling either or both.

“Reich said the Colts "knew he had the issue in the preseason, missed a couple of weeks with the knee, but once we got going it was never really on the injury report.”

The Colts manipulating the Injury Report. Nothing to see here, folks.

Cyrus Jones undergoes open heart surgery.

Like he says in his post. Crazy to have such a sudden operation on something he's been living with his whole life

I looked into it like 10 years ago, but the process seemed daunting and I didn’t have any contacts. I’m content just to lurk.
Got to say I like the cut of your job. The raw agression against a backup defensive back going through a serious medical issue is just breathtaking.

To be fair, I have nothing against Reche Caldwell. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, he just kind of sucked at football, but whatever. Not like I would have done any better.

Although I just checked his Wikipedia, and it turns out he was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for selling MDMA. Also he’s recently been accused by the Justice Department of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud.

I guess you could say he really dropped the ball on his post-NFL life.

I’m sorry.

I love Kevin Faulk almost unconditionally. But if he doesn’t smoke weed in the 2008 off-season, Brady probably never tears up his knee.

I may get over that at some point. Carry on.

In fairness, that's a well-known and common consequence of smoking weed. If only someone had told him!

This is absolutely awful to read:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8106465/Ex-Patriots-fullbacks-wife-pleads-union-reject-CBA-proposal.html

With current NFL players set to vote on a collective-bargaining proposal that will affect thousands of their retired former colleagues, the wife of one ex-New England Patriots fullback has posted pictures of her incapacitated husband to plead with the union to reject the owners' offer because it limits disability protection.
...
According to Monique, he now relies on total and permanent disability benefits, which could be limited if the current NFL players union votes to approve the owners' CBA proposal before Saturday's deadline.
But as the former director of disability benefits for the NFL/NFLPA told the Daily Mail, the offer contains several proposals to curtail retired player benefits.

That is terrible. And I am NOT saying its not true....but I thought Patrick Pass has been part of a traveling football clinic/Alumni Game thing that the Patriots Alumni do. I am like 75% sure that Pass was one of the guys who showed up. Was a "Star" of the group very involved very athletic (running go's and beating everyone on the field diving all over the field etc etc). I think I have seen this twice around 2016 and 2017. So while we all know that the NFL takes a terrible toll on a players body, Its just weird (to me) that He is having these kind of medical issues now after looking "fine" if overweight.

Again maybe I am wrong and it wasnt Pass. Or maybe he was dealing with these issues during the alumni stuff. Or maybe it just came with ageing and the toll caught up with him.

Whatever the issue I hope he gets healthy. If I am recalling correctly Pass was great with the kids and was a very likable guy in the few mins we interacted.

Aqib Talib may have started the fight that led to the shooting of a youth football coach by Talib's brother

https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/witnesses-say-aqib-talib-started-brawl-led-to-fatal-shooting-of-youth-coach/287-e313872d-e507-4064-9652-1ea858f6a0d4

DALLAS — A new video obtained by WFAA shows another angle of the fatal shooting of a coach at a youth football game in Lancaster over the weekend.

In the video you see the moments before coach Mike Hickmon was shot.

Witnesses say a person wearing a hat and white sneakers in the video is former NFL cornerback, Aqib Talib. They say he walked across the field first to the opposing side.

Coach Heath Mays witnessed what happened.

”He ran across the field and ran over on our sideline and got in the ref's face,” said Mays.

Multiple witnesses say Aqib Talib was the one who started the brawl because he was upset about referees.

"He threw the first punch, and you see Mike trying to defend himself," said Mays.

That is a hideously awful story. I am so, so sorry. A man is dead, another one will be in prison for life and, not that it matters, but Talib's television career is over. What an all-around catastrophe.

I knew Talib had been involved in legal entanglements before, but didn’t realize the extent of them.

The Talib brothers are no strangers to law enforcement and have been investigated for multiple shootings, including in 2016 when Dallas police believe Aqib Talib was shot at the V Live strip club. Two other people were also shot that night.
Aqib Talib and his brother were also investigated in 2015 after someone fired a gun inside a downtown Dallas night club. Dallas police say the brothers had gotten into a fight.
Police say they couldn’t find enough evidence to charge them with any crimes.
This sounds like he’s been much more seriously involved in these things in the past than we know.

ALOT of ex pats with not good looks.

I suppose a deep dive of any NFL team is gonna have a similar result.

But I wonder if we will look back at some point and be like "DAMN The Pats were the 2000-2018 version of the 1970s Raiders collecting up guys of lesser character if they were talented". Just Win baby.

Yeah, he's a former Pat, but played only 19 games in NE of the nearly 150 he played in the NFL. It's every team.

I think that every team has some guys with criminal histories or post playing-days rap sheets, and I don't think the Pats are any worse than other teams on average. But we do have the only *literal serial killer*.

Thornton insurance? ;-)

Julian Edelman misses football and wouldn’t rule out making a comeback later in the season, he said last week on The Rich Eisen Show.

“I’ll tell you right now, if I had three weeks, three maybe four weeks,” Edelman said. “I mean, at the start of the season absolutely not. But, if there was a team vying for a playoff run, guy goes down, could I get ready? I probably could.”
“This is my first year my body has felt kind of pretty good,” Edelman said. “That’s when you start to get back in that mindset of when the game was easiest for you, when you were in your best physical shape and it cross-paired with your smarts of the game. And that’s when you miss it, when you can go out and compete at a high level consistently.”

As the Patriots wrap up the preseason this week in Las Vegas, Edelman said he misses the excitement that a new season brings.

“I miss waking up in August, going to the field smelling the fresh cut grass,” Edelman said. “Seeing the sprinklers just finished, seeing our equipment guys set the stuff out in the locker room. The fellas, competition, and now being in my second year out I can actually miss it.”

He hasn’t really answered much except he doesn’t know why Butler was benched in the super bowl & he says the Brady on Masked Singer thing is true.

The AMA is turning out to be kinda lame. He’s not answering much.

Yeah, he mostly memed his answers. Which is pretty much what you might expect from a joker like him.

Apparently JC Jackson is among the 20 highest ranked players in the NFL top 100, the only other CB aside from Ramsey. I personally don't think he's at that level, but still, nice to see.
