This is good news, yes?

via universal hub

Initially, the project will begin in Dorchester, West Roxbury and the Dudley Square neighborhood of Roxbury in 2016, followed by Hyde Park, Mattapan, and other areas of Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. The city has also agreed to provide an expedited permitting process to encourage this build.

I bet Verizon will price FIOS at very high prices

My "high speed internet" is under 5mbps download speed and pay close to $80 for the phone + internet plan...I can't have multiple devices streaming video

I don't think they'll be able to price FIOS high as long as they have a viable competitor in Comcast.

I lived in the South End for several years maybe a quarter mile from where RCN was available. Comcast knew they were my only option and priced it like that. Whenever my wife or I would try and call to get them to lower our monthly bill, they essentially laughed at us knowing full well we had no practical recourse.

Moved a year ago to a place pre wired for both Comcast and FIOS. Saving 100 bucks a month by signing a 2 year contract with FIOS (couple fewer TV channels & much better internet compared to previous Comcast plan). Looking forward to playing the two off each other when the time comes- either at our current location or back in the city.

I was so excited for FIOS to come to our area 5 years ago, now I don't give a shit outside of pricing. I'm a huge fan of X1 on Comcast, where 5 years ago I'd get rid of them immediately. The only advantage of FIOS is to get a better price. I wouldn't switch to them if given the option now, I'd just leverage the shit out of it to get a better Comcast price.
