Do they give out the trophy for the best team after they give out the one to the champs? Should I stay up?

Obviously, some asshole snark by me, but I never understand the debate that comes up a few minutes after every championship is won. College football used to give the trophy to the best team arguably sorta and people hated it.

congrats to other hoos! we've been one of the classiest teams in the ncaa the last 10 years since the Leito years. we didn't even play our best basketball in this tourney and we're the last one standing. nobody knows what it's like being a uva fan. Tony Bennett and this group couldn't have won this in a more fitting way. WAHOOWA

I’m a BC grad. I would gladly sign up for years of disappointment as a high seed...

But, seriously, congrats on the title. Always good to see a non-Duke team win.

it's not the years of high seed losses. it's the years of having the worst luck, injuries, heart break, self inflicted or not occur. not just in basketball. only uva fans read this and it resonates

Yeah there were some untimely injuries. Hunter last year and someone key the prior year (i forget who).

Also had two years where we had to play an under-seeded Sparty team. Just always felt like the stars weren’t aligned. They were this year - we got the breaks and played just well enough to win

there's been minimum of one every year in Bennett era. on teams that were always with short benches. every year but this one. and guy was in a boot this weekend. don't make me list em! fairly certain we took a will sherrill lead team to the tourney and he was a walk on in a leg brace. mike Scott was injured that year... screw it here's my list.

sherrill broke leg i think, mike Scott knee i think, malcolm brogdon foot, Anthony gill leg injury, London perrantes appendix and or broken nose, joe Harris broken hand, justin Anderson broken finger and appendix if i remember, Kyle guy last year knee brace, DeAndre hunter hand, Isaiah Wilkins had that crazy virus or whatever it was that had him out, lost Austin Nichols to idiocracy which affected last year's line up, going all the way back to Silvan Landesburg skipping art class. many more i know. all on limited depth. we're just now building depth and rotation.

Anderson was the one I’d forgotten - that was huge

Anyway, as the Sox have shown over the last several years, if you remain consistently good, eventually the breaks go your way.

Bennett stayed the course

Wild to see UVA win something like this. I grew up around Charlottesville and watched the football and basketball teams in the 90s. Occasional highs, beating Va tech and upsetting FSU, but a shitload more lows. I never ever thought they’d win a championship.

we've won 10 national championships since 2010. No I don't care that people don't recognize non revenue sports championships. UVA is a well rounded sports school and we are very into all our teams. I can't be any prouder of the character of kids we recruit and the standards they're held to. Winning championships is the icing on the cake. Next up, football. That program is on a nice projection up and being built up in a similar manner.

Sure. I have vague memories of Bruce Arena and the soccer team being dominant during the 90s and they had quite bit of talent come through the program. In any case, this is cool to see, especially considering what happened last year.

Don't forget the last time we had a pulse before the Bennett era when JR Reynolds hurt his ankle against Tennessee. No shortage of hard luck, glad we finally broke through. Wahoowa!

I wish I could go back to tell my 7th grade self about this. Living in Richmond and dealing with all the front running Duke and UNC fans (who all had different college football allegiances) so happy for the kid that still lives in me.

Congrats to all the actual Hoos who went to school there or stayed the course against popular opinion.

Also congrats to all the TT fans. Great run and a classy team. Shame somebody had to lose.

couldn't find a better place to put this but Mamadi Diakite is returning to UVA for his senior season. That's big time news for hoo fans. We're going to have some serious length on the floor next year.
