Absolutely. Not even a question. Again I feel bad for the Auburn guy but that's been a foul all year and you can't NOT call it just because of the situation. Clear foul. Sucks for Auburn but it is what it is.
You can't not call the double dribble either.

100% a foul, but not calling an obvious as shit double dribble before all that is really weak.

Agreed. I said it here the moment it happened. Clear violation, and I can't believe they didn't call it. Auburn made a great comeback. But then they missed the key free throw. But then Virginia had a double dribble and got lucky that it wasn't called. Then they got bailed out by a bad foul by Auburn. And then at the end, Auburn committed a bad foul that was absolutely the correct call.

Crazy finish. Not sure, really, which team deserved to win.

EDIT: It's so much easier to take when I don't have a dog in the fight, that's for sure. I can't imagine being a fan of either team - especially, obviously, Auburn.

I kind of wanted that to go into OT just for the sake of the Auburn kid. They may be booing the refs now but hopefully no anger transfers toward that guy.

Why is Steratore saying that's a tough judgment call on dribble?

Indeed. They are covering that now.

So the ref makes the one right call, but not the other, literally determining the winner.
Two wrongs don't make a right, except maybe sometimes. They don't call that foul, people whine a little but acknowledge the double dribble was missed and say "ball don't lie".

Here
The funny thing is LeBron did the exact same thing in a big moment in the ECF against the Celtics last year with a double dribble and it was never even shown again on replay. It was at a huge moment at the end of one of the games, too.

Same thing, dribbled off his foot in back court, picked it up and just kept dribbling.

I would normally love for an SEC getting screwed but this Auburn team fought their asses off and overcame a lot of adversity. I feel sick for them.

Can’t make the foul call there after not making the obvious DD call. Can’t do it. Fans know it. Everyone knows it. Of course it was a foul...still can’t call it in that situation, not after swallowing the whistle 2 seconds before.

Disagree. You do your best with every single call. Try to get them all right. How hard would the Auburn player have had to hack Guy in that situation for you to say that was the right call? Nothing could make up for the missed call on the double dribble. So that means that Auburn gets a free shot at Virginia? Makes no sense.

I feel sick for Auburn, don’t get me wrong.

Didn’t know that rule about recovering a ball you lost being a double dribble. Sucks for Auburn considering the comeback. Foul of the 3 was fair enough and the kid hit them all without breaking a sweat. Great game for an impartial to watch.

This is my Pats and Duke fan hats talking but imagine if it was Duke receiving that call
Imagine if it was Duke who benefitted from Nike paying a star player’s mom for consulting services so that they wouldn’t have to and could maintain plausible deniability.

That double dribble was so blatant that I just assumed when they didn't call it I'd mis-seen it or forgotten how the rule works.
It was a double drible, it was also a foul on #2 on Auburn before the Double dribble as he had a handful of jersey and was actively trying to foul the UVA player before the double dribble occurred.

Fine. I'm sure Auburn wouldn't have minded that call being made either.

If I was the Auburn player, I wouldn't have fouled Guy after the missed double dribble. At best, he gets a 35 footer off. But he was just following what Pearl told him. In hindsight, the foul gave UVA a chance to get a better shot which they did.

With hindsight, he should have dove after the ball--a foul wouldn't have mattered and in a perfect world he pokes ball away.

I already said it was a correct call. However it was subtle contact, certainly not a hard foul, no arm contact and looks awfully worse in slow motion than live. It affects the shot and It’s actually an excellent call, which makes it worse given the timing and situation

Not that it matters much, but wasn't it Jerome, not Guy?
