Wasn't this the guy that changed his name a few years ago from something completely different? Perhaps he has a history of this stuff. Disgusting.

if the Dodgers were actually close to trading Lux for him, they're really relieved today.

One week after he and Kyle Crick had a fistfight that ended Crick's season with tendon damage to his index finger. You might think Crick was the "good guy", but that was the second clubhouse fight for him this year, as the previous one landed bullpen coach Euclides Rojas a 2-game suspension. Then there's Keone Kela who has a general reputation for being an asshole and head-hunter and was also suspended earlier this season for fighting with a coach. That's one helluva bullpen the Pirates have assembled.

That's all small trivial shit compared to this. This is shocking.

Yep, this is perhaps the worst offense for an active major league player I can recall. Has any active player ever murdered someone? There is no coming back from being a pedophile. Even if the charges were dropped, he would have a helluva time making it back on any team. His career is over.

What is "computer pornography"?

Asking for a friend...
To me the charge reads as "One count, computer pornography, solicitation of a child", which tells me the computer pornography wasn't the issue, but it sounds like he got a kid to send him pictures.

He's already been placed on the restricted list by the commissioner's office, and I agree with crow216, I can't remember a worse offense from an active MLB player.

From reading the tweet, it sounds like he had sex with her at 13, and then sent her videos of himself. Allegedly.

Julio Machado shot a woman in the head after getting into an argument after a car accident.

Ugueth Urbina was charged with multiple counts of attempted murder for attacking farmhands with a machete, poured gasoline on them, and tried to light them on fire.

The first I did not know about but found when looking for the Uggie incident, which I mostly remembered. Both were active players, and I don't like to rank levels of bad when they're this bad, but they'd have to be the competition for this accusation.

Mel Hall was another deviant, but I think that girl was a couple of years older when it started and I'm not sure any of that became public until after his career was over (I believe there were rumors of sex with a minor when he was with the Yankees, but I don't think all the depraved manipulation beyond that was known).

An entire starting outfield of WTF: Mel Hall in left, Chad Curtis in center and Luis Polonia in right.

Does attempted murder count? (Ugueth Urbina.)

Per Passan on Twitter
"Police said Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez admitted that he drove nearly an hour in 2017 to meet a 13-year old girl and tried to have sex with her, according to a criminal complaint released today. After a failed attempt, Vazquez, then 26, left to go to a game, per the complaint"

Scum.

Times have changed. When Luis Polonia pleaded no contest to statutory rape of a 15-year old girl, he served a 60-day jail sentence, which the judge allowed to be deferred and served in the off-season. Polonia played several more years in the majors thereafter. There’s a difference morally between a 13-year old and a 15-year old, but I question whether a 2-year difference would have made the difference between Polonia’s career being over and it being basically unaffected.

Point being, if we went back in time and judged player misconduct by today’s moral standards, I don’t think Vazquez would be as much of an outlier as you think.

You're not wrong. Trying to distinguish between the two would be pretty dumb. Was there some other circumstance around why Polonia was let off so easy and not put on the sex offender registry or something? What's missing there?
