After listening for a few minutes yesterday discussing the Brandin Cooks trade (praising in, while at the same time rehashing the Jimmy G trade), they criticized the Rams for making a stupid move, because they "could just get him next year in free agency".

I don't think they actually believe it, but it certainly is a HUGE part of their show...assuming teams can just automatically sign whatever FA they want. Its annoying.

so The Bruins are dominating their series thus far, the Celtics won game 1 in a great game to watch, the Red Sox are on fire at 13-2 and it’s marathon Monday. So what do we lead off with???? Let’s continue the talk about the patriots dysfunction instead. *click*

I'm about fucking done with the Patriots, man. I'm almost at the point that if they moved, I'd almost be happy because I wouldn't have to hear people talk about them for 12 straight months.

Like BSF said, the Bruins have a game tonight and they're dismantling the Leafs. The Celts played yesterday and won a really good game. The Sox are 13-2 -- the first team to win 13 out of 15 game since the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers and these three knuckle draggers want to talk gossip and Patriot soap opera bullshit.

Enough, man.

They are unlistenable at this point. They just want to latch onto any possible drama (and there is plenty) with the Patriots at this point and are tone deaf to their audience. And Mazz has always been a dope.

I tuned in today hoping to get some talk about the Bruins, Sox or Celtics. Nope, all I got was palace intrigue about the Patriots.

As an aside, it's amazing to me how many people have never had a boss they thought to be an a-hole but respected nonetheless because they delivered the goods.

The Sox, Bruins, and Celtics are all playing too well right now for them to make them the local loser franchise, so which team can they talk about but the one that literally plays in their conference championship game every single year, and plays in their league championship game most years. It's not like they can ever say good things about the local teams.

I thought I was crazy here. They’re literally slipping in “minutes” about the teams currently playing in the postseason. The producer of their show is the absolute worst.

I feel EXACTLY the same way and I don't ever listen to those guys. But its the same on EEI. All Patriots bullshit all the time. I don't even like basketball, but please, dear god if you aren't going to talk Red Sox until the summer or Bruins for some inexplicable reason, talk about the C's instead of football.

It's still too early for the casual listeners to talk Sox, and there aren't any casual listeners for C's/B's, so it has to be Pats. The hard core sports fan isn't the customer for this medium.

That is complete and utter bullshit.

It's too early to talk Sox? They were crucifying Cora on day two thanks to the bullpen meltdown. They always talk Celtics when something goes off the rails. Same thing with the Bruins. And the Pats seem to be in disarray, but who knows if that's true because nothing ever leaks out of Foxboro. So it's the lazy man's four-hour of conversation: make up or speculate on things that you aren't sure whether its true (and don't worry, people won't call you on it anyway) and to be safe, keep it on the negative side because you know, people don't like to hear anything good.

Yep. Lots of Bruins talk likely today.

"I told you to be nervous"
"You're right Mike"
"Tuukka again - this guy just craps his pants in big games"
"Yep"
"Can't trust him"
"Nope"
"And Pastrnak and Marchand back to being playoff losers. They almost fooled us for two games there."
"They're losers, Mike"
"And where's Donato? Can't play him 'cause he's too young, right? Huh."

Is Mazz still bragging that he doesn't watch the games? To be scared (or not) by Betts, it might be helpful to actually see most of his at-bats. (Crazy, I know.)

Mazz still has a problem with Mookie Betts and says you can pitch to him to mitigate his strengths. Says Mookie "does not scare me". This guy used to be a national baseball writer, correct?
There's definitely a job out there as Pitching Coach for some lucky franchise with Mazz's name all over it. Lucky for Mookie that none of the other pitching coaches thought to mitigate Mookie's strengths.

Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even know their record, he crucified Alex Cora around a week or so ago for saying the team was playing good, during a stretch when the team went 8-1 and was on an 8 game winning streak.

He did talk a lot a couple of days ago about staying up late for the Ohtani game, but with Ohtani being yanked from the game fairly quickly he probably was in bed by the 3rd or 4th inning.

Today’s “Patriots are burning” theory was a good one. Now that the Brady retiring stuff has been basically debunked, these guys talked themselves into Kraft and B.B. striking a deal where Bill would prep for and run the draft and then resign immediately afterwards. Kraft would honor his contract but this would give Bill the last word and final FU to Brady.

Typical Felger and Mazz. Nothing you see is real. Anything you enjoy sucks. If a sporting event makes you feel good, you're a worthless yahoo. Sports is supposed to be one shitty day after another. Later. Rinse. Repeat.

Caller: Last night's game was fun to watch. Rozier is on fire these playoffs.

Feljer: Green Teamer!
Mazz: I know that Rozier has done it for three nights in a row, but can he do it next year? I feel that's the real question here, Mike. And I don't think that he can. I just don't think that he can.
Felger: These Green Teamers are incredible, Tony! They always want to talk about what happened last night. They never have their eyes on the future. Terry Rozier? You're going to start the 2018-19 NBA season with Terry Rozier? That's a laugh! HA!

Ok fine. They are not overachieiving. In fact, they suck. Kevin McHale could put down the headset and go 20/10 on Horford's overpaid ass RIGHT NOW. And they're ugly. And stupid.
But in what should be the response to EVERYTHING that comes out of the mouths of either Felger or his tiny sidekick, SO WHAT.* They're one of the last 8 teams playing and are up 2-0 in the series.

*Except, "I'm cutting out my vocal cords," in which case the response should be "Can I help?"

I wonder what they were saying 10 years ago when the Celts opened up the playoffs with six consecutive road losses.
10 years ago, weren't they saying, "Mr. Purcell, can I pleeeeese have the key to the boys' room. I have to go real bad."?

I should have never turned this show on today. I lasted all of 5 minutes before I had to turn it off. The only thing that matters is the game was at home and we can’t get too excited about it. Did Felger even watch the game? How can you not get excited after that game? I find it remarkable their ratings have not decreased after they continue to take a dump on everything the local teams do. I keep saying the worm will eventually turn on them and I continue to be wrong.

All they are saying in the real world is that this is an inspired team led by a great coach and terrific general manager.

Teasing Monday ....

“It’s really not impressive, Tony ... it just isn’t. When those kids aren’t soiling themselves, the 76ers are sleepwalking through the series ...”

“Right Mike, and the defense on that baseline jumper that sent them into overtime was an abomination. Should have been over in regulation.”

“You’re right, and that overtime period is going to come back to haunt them, Tony. It’s gonna cost them the rest of this series. Just wait ...”

Nope. It'll be about the coach. Brad Stevens is over rated in their mind so it'll be about Brown being *that* bad.

"Brad Stevens is a good coach I'll give you that. But when you go against such a TURD like Brown it'll cost you a series"
"I know Mike! This Cetics would be down two games to one if the 6ers had a mediocre coach. Their coach cost them these games!"

Usually my couch
As someone who grew up in Rhode Island, full disclosure, my father was GM of the PawSox in the early 70s, and moved to Pennsylvania when I was 11. I watched religiously via DirectTV just to try and get the pulse of what is going on up there. Tune in to Toucher and Rich in the morning while getting my son ready for school. But when Felger went all weak and addict on Manziel, they lost me. Have not tuned in since. Don't miss it one bit. Found anything on the MLB Network is better than what they have to offer. Anytime I see Felger on the TV immediately turn it off. Don't miss it one bit.

What will they say about the triple screen and the convergence point to draw Embiid away from the rim for the Horford game winner? Should Covington have had inside position on that or could he even?

LOL. They have no idea what I just said.

Well the are starfuckers — loud mouth mediocrities typically are — and in this instance the star certainly knows what he is talking about:

At the same time, they hate geniuses.

So let’s talk about the Bruins.

I recognize that the general talking points for each show depend on current activity with the four major teams in town, but the overall F&M "coverage" of the Celtics and the NBA is horrendous.

Giving them a little slack for needing to create controversy and to goad callers, I think their general knowledge is pretty good on the NFL/Patriots and the NHL/Bruins.

With a guy (Mazz) who was primarily a Red Sox reporter and hosts a baseball show on the station, I think they are actually below average on MLB/Red Sox. Stuck on steroid-era thinking about the way the game is played.

But their overall knowledge and understanding of the game of basketball, the skills and abilities that each of the Celtics bring to the floor each night, and their general awareness of what is going on around the NBA is totally embarrassing. I don't consider myself James Naismath or John Wooden by any stretch, but all four of them (Felger, Mazz, Murray, and Stewart) are veritable troglodytes when it comes to basketball. The past month or two has been a particularly terrible stretch of radio for them.

You cannot write this description any better. I was listening yesterday hoping to catch some of the latest on the Colangelo story and instead they were reacting to Stevens's comments about the game from his phone interview on the previous show. They were looking for Stevens to throw Rozier, et al under the bus for taking rushed shots and also for the obligatory dig at the "stat nerds ruining the game" when Stevens talked about the open shots he wants them to take and how to get them. Essentially their understanding of basketball can be summed by the belief that it's only a good shot if it goes in. Painfully stupid.

If any athletes or coaches were as ill-prepared, lazy, and careless as they are -- especially Mazz, this show would spontaneously combust. I would listen to that.

They expected Stevens to throw his players under the bus?

In his years of coaching the Celtics, when has Brad Stevens ever done that? BTW, I don't think that's a bad thing. It's just dumb that F&M would get pissed off at something that Stevens never, ever does. Why don't they get mad that Stevens didn't grow wings, put on a uniform and dunk from the three-point line.

"You know Mike, I haven't see him do that before, but the doesn't mean he can't do it. It would be very helpful to this team, Mike it really would!"

Mazz is now officially a parody account. Every single game a local team wins is because of weak competition. I was sick in bed yesterday and flipped to the show on TV to find him ranting about the quality of baseball and the AL East in particular. "The Blue Jays suck! The Rays suck! The Orioles suck!" I'm sure if they Sox take the Houston series they'll find some reason this isn't the "real" Astros. Next he and Felger damned the whole league on quality of play and players. "There were more strikeouts than hits [or something like that] in April! These guys stink" with nary a word about strikeouts not being meaningfully worse than groundouts... CLICK

I listened to about three minutes about a week ago. Did you all know that NBA teams are full of spineless wussies who lack character--and that's why the home team had so far won each game in the ECF?

They're officially worse than the old Big Show at this stage and might as well just call the program "Trolling for Dollars."

I concur. From March 2010:
I caught it and thought Felger came off as an enormous tool. It's one thing to show passion and get fired-up, it's quite another to feign outrage and resort to shtick. I thought the Pittsburgh guy really exercised quite a bit of restraint to not bail on the interview sooner. The irony that Felger is from freakin' Wisconsin and he's sitting there describing Pittsburgh as "backwater" and shitting all over the city, even while it experiences a highly publicized renaissance, is rich. Felger's act has grown as tired as Ordway's down the dial.

Shank's on the same page with Mazz...has adopted the Tomato Can plan of attack w/regard to Major League Baseball. All games meaningless until October, got it?
Oh, and another Mazz topic is "Where Will Hanley Land...Oh Woe is the Red Sox if they have to play against Him!".
