Did anyone catch the end of yesterday's show? Felger said the Pats deserve a asterisk if they win the Super Bowl this year cause the field is as weak as ever. Basically the same take as Tomato Can Dan. This is exactly the type of take I am looking for from our local spots radio station.

But seriously, I get being critical, they have a lot air time to fill and being a overally positive all the time doesn't really sell, but when they say shit like this they really lose me. I still listen from time to time but not nearly as much as I did 5 years ago.
Mazz said the exact same thing last year.

I guess you have to know football to understand that the Vikings are a really good team.

They both wave off the 13 Sox for a similarly dumb reason: it was lucky/fluky. One of many reasons I listen only in very small doses. The trolling is too obvious.

Wasn't Felger's schtick for the years the whole "defense wins championships, defense wins in December and January, the Pats won't' win because they've become a soft high-flying offensive team"? So now there's three really good defenses left and he says they have no chance because their quarterbacks stink? When did he change his tune, after the Pats won two more super bowls as an offensive minded team?

Might have something to do with the Pats averaging 31 points per playoff game since 2011.

Felger is breaking some news about the stiches and shit. A throw-back to his Herald days. There are probably young fans that don't know Felger worked at the Herald back in the Bledsoe/Brady days of the past. Was a pro-Brady guy, too. Used to argue with Borges and Cafardo on Sports Final.

So, today Mazz wondered whether Tom knew that there was a documentary coming out about Bill (the 30 for 30) so he decided to release his own documentary first. Either that or Bill knew Tom was going to do one and then did his own.

Yeah... as you all know usually I'm not nearly as uptight about what Felger and Mazz say about Brady and the Patriots because it's for entertainment and they usually have a point or I can see where they are coming from. However, they (especially Mazz) have really been stretching it lately with the Brady and Tom vs Time stuff to the point where the trolling isn't even enjoyable because it doesn't make any sense.

Guys go easy on them. It has to be really hard to come up with stuff to talk about right now. I mean, there isn't a lot going on in Boston sports so they really have to try to come up with talking points to fill 4 hours....

Felger won't be too bad, he wasn't bad on TV last night, but Mazz and Murray will be awful.
I certainly won't be listening but hopefully someone does and they can give a brief recap of the idiocy here. You know kind of like a Cafardo column.

Felger's going to be in his glory, isn't he. The Butler benching is just the cherry on top.
They both are going to be in their glory.

This was the exact scenario that I was worried about and that Mazz has been discussing since he chose the Eagles to win. The Patriots Defense shits the bed and Foles doesn't turn into a pumpkin resulting in what we saw.

Now Mazz was right and is going to chirp about that.

Felger's mantra has been the only way the Eagles win is if the Patriots beat themselves. He can chirp about that now too because he's also right, limited adjustments and no Butler.

I'll tune in because if I'm annoyed by anything right now it's Belichick not putting Butler in, I'm not overly upset because of the outcome and didn't lose a wink of sleep last night because we've all lived through far bigger disappointments than last night. Also, Felger has surprised us before and not played douchebag after a big loss.

However, the show has a short leash and I'll listen to spotify before I subject myself to listening to the point of soundling like Mike from wherever he's from right now

I find Felger to much more tolerable in the aftermath of losses like last night's. He's more annoying in his inability to allow the fanbase to enjoy any of the good stuff that happens. In the run up to the Super Bowl he was talking about how the Patriot run better not be over yet because they traded Jimmy G. so Brady has to deliver at least 3 more good years. For shit's sake, just let us enjoy the Pats in the SB. But he'll be fair today, and to be fair obviously the Pats deserve to be criticized, particularly on defense.

Mazz, however, will be beyond insufferable, because whenever something bad happens its never just one game, it is the end of life on earth as we know it. He has zero perspective, and it'll be like the 5 Super Bowls they won never happened. And he'll play the "I told you so" card about a million times. The run is over, BB has lost it, you name it, it'll all be on full display today and for the rest of the week.

I listed to T&R this morning a little, but life is way, way too short for me to spend any time listening to Tony Mazz this afternoon.

Edit: The only mitigating factor is Brady played great against a great defense. If he had played shitty Mazz would be all over the decision to keep Brady and trade Jimmy.

One of the things I like about Felger is that he understands sports is entertainment. He may say you are allowed to be disappointed here, but in the end, any team that gets to the Final Four in their sport has had a successful season and the fans have "won".

Almost 10 minutes in and really if you have listened to T&R or Adam Jones you've heard the story lines and it's more of the same with Felger and Mazz being reasonable right now.

I can tell Murray is just going to suck completely and add nothing but hyperbole along with a heavy dose of "Angry Patriots Fan". Maybe it's me but I don't think any of us should be angry about the loss because it only comes off as spoiled and entitled.

Disappointed absolutely, but spitting angry... I don't know, I can't get there and want to tell those people to grow up.

Murray is going to suck because Murray sucks, they really missed the boat not putting Keefe in that spot.

I agree with Felger being fine after losses, good even- I remember after I think the last Giants SB loss he was calming and almost therapeutic and he was just as good last night.

Felger can be more reasonable after big losses, and Mazz, well, he was right. But Murray? UGH. In the 20 minutes I listened he started railing off about all the bad moves "Belichick the GM" made. He may be my least favorite person on the station now.

That's certainly an answer to a question. It's not an answer to the question that was asked mind you. But it was indeed an answer.

Mazz is not excited about the JDM signing because he is not a "difference maker."

Big Jim dislikes the signing because he was planning to ignore this team this year.

J-Stew positively hates the signing. Thinks JDM's stats are inflated based on inferior competition. Took a dump all over the 4 homer game against the Dodgers. Thinks JDM is going to be lousy here.

His splits are pretty much the same vs winning and losing teams, takes like 2 minutes to look that up. Maybe he's just really really lucky and never faces any good pitchers on winning teams.....

Nothing they do will please them.

Short of stroking a $450 million commitment to Bryce Harper next offseason.

Day 1, they would be happy because of star power, but mostly because it would show that no Boston team owner, in any sport, has any legit financial constraint.

Day 2, they would say these big contracts are a mistake.

There's something amusing about Felger doing the show remotely via Skype. Wish I had a screenshot of it. What was the occasion anyway? Did The Wood give birth today?

Admittedly, in my head i'm more bearish on JD than I should be based on his numbers. But to say hes a "5 or 6" hitter is a joke. It would be awfully tough, near impossible, to make an argument that he has not established himself as one of the top 20 impact bats in MLB. With an upside as a top 5. That was hard to listen to yesterday.

Felger said he didn't like the signing because he hadn't heard of JDM 2 years ago (he was an All Star that year, BTW)

Felger to the group: has ANYONE heard of JD Martinez 2 years ago?
Mazz: no
Murray: no
producer I'm blanking on: no

Guys, only sports experts should discuss sports on the radio. Otherwise idiots with crazy opinions get on and screw up the discourse. Understanding sports and talking about sports is a really hard thing that only experts who are plugged into both the national and regional sports scene can truly understand.

Jeez.

(Paraphrasing Mazz): “Until I see him hit good pitching, and until he proves he can drive the ball over the bullpens in right field at Fenway, I won’t believe he’s an impact signing.” What? Oppo Fenway power is the CSF here?

It’s as if 2014-2017 didn’t even exist. But SHAME ON THE RED SOX for not getting Stanton with his equal production over that same period at 2 1/2 times the cost.

Mazz also said the fact that JDM played in hitters parks like Chase and Comerica is a mark against him. At least Felger challenged him a little on the Comerica nonsense.

If the Red Sox got Stanton, they'd be complaining that they spent all their prospects and are paying him twice the cost of JD Martinez.

Dakota, calling during a meeting break on his business trip in Montreal, says there is a serious knee issue with JDM. He went from metal spikes to molded spikes last year. The Sox are negotiating to add some injury protection language in the contract.

Murray says this explains why no one else was interested in the player and thinks this signing will be a disaster.
