Wow, I'd get on board with that, if for no other reason they can play that epic Murray "celebration" from Game 7 vs. Toronto over and over.

I just thought of F&M as Frodo and Sam with Mazz as Sam and now I'm giggling.

I could definitely see that. Keefe is borderline unlistenable to my ears, though I may be unconciously lumping him in with Adam Jones' terribleness.

Felger is becoming arrogant. He's been berating this caller who called up about Deflategate for like five minutes. Glenn Ordway would be jealous.

He never would've done that a couple of years ago. The ratings are through the roof because Dale & Holley sucks. People are clamoring for an alternative, but can't find it. Too bad Felger isn't more cognizant of that.

I would argue that Dale and Holley is much better radio right now. F&M is one troll and one lazy yes man.

Really boring on the whole. Two guys who "just talk sports" doesn't really work – look at the most successful shows locally.

Nobody gives a shit about what Dale has to say about anything. Thornton is a nobody, and it seems like Holley only decides to try on rare occasions. It's a lightweight show.

Driving home, stuck in traffic, for me I'd rather not be screaming at my radio at "hotsportztakes", and would prefer to at least hear non-trolling discussion. To each their own, I guess.

Was the current thread title spurred by a comment in here or on the show?  I ask because today, coming back from a break (Adam Jones and Rich Keefe filling in) they were talking about something and Jimmy Stewart chimed in with "we just have fact-like opinions."  Wonder if someone from that show checks in here now and then

I'm still enjoying it.  Yesterday was not the day for that nonsense, but I still tune in daily because I guess I just kind of enjoy the sophistry of it all.  I think it was ultimately pretty tone deaf to try to "go after" Pedro on HoF day, but I generally enjoy that they'll find some fact or fact like point and run with it in an unexpected direction.  In this case it pretty much backfired, but that probably says as much about me and how I feel about Pedro as it does about them.  Hell, if it had been about RJ they probably would have had me.

Stewart was definitely a SoSH reader back when he worked at WEEI. Ordway used to tease him about it.

They do.  I'm sure it's not a regular thing but Beetle has followed stuff we've said before.

Same... From 5:30 -6. Only deflate gate talk was tongue in cheek who's rubbing all the balls stuff.

That's not quite what I heard around that same time.

His main point was that the Pats had an explanation for just about everything related to deflate gate except for why their balls were affected and the Colts balls were not. Really? If he can't come up with 2 or 3 plausible explanations for this by now then he's not even trying.

His "tongue and cheek" stuff about who's rubbing the balls was pretty much Felger taking a dump on Belichick and misunderstanding what Belichick communicated. Felger basically said the Pats would need to have 24 ball rubbing machines in order to prep all the balls at once and give them to the officials for testing. He ignores the fact that Belichick basically said they prep the balls and then adjust them to 12.5 PSI. The balls may then lose up to 1 PSI as they cool back to room temp. At some point the balls go to the refs, but Belichick never suggested that all the balls were handed to the ref at the same elevated temp and pressure. This isn't that hard to understand.

He also crapped on the idea that rubbing the balls could actually elevate the temp enough to change the air pressure. (The constant repeating of the hot balls comments.) This despite the fact that we know the temps do not have to be extreme nor anywhere near "hot," and we know they actually use a buffing wheel to rub the balls. I think it's fairly certain they can warm the balls enough to change the air pressure.

Felger sucks and I'm done listening.

I guess like BH I don't have the same "OH NOES THEY ARE PICKING ON MY PATRIOTS!!!!!" complex that you do.   Felger said what you stated but I didn't take it as him crapping on Belichick or the team, I thought it was humorous.

I'm sure you'll be missed but I'm even more positive you'll be back.

I don't have that complex.

It's just that I fail to see the humor in a radio host lacking a basic understanding of science, failing to grasp key concepts of a situation that is now heading into its second month, and insinuating that Belichick is a liar. I guess if you find that stuff funny Felger is a fucking riot.

I always get a kick out of the "so why do you listen?" and "we have (insert number) pages in this thread discussing them...so F&M are da awesome!" crowd.

When the number one sports show in town constantly shits on the home teams, it's bad radio. When the flagship station of the football team acts like it's morally unethical to root for them, it's bad radio. When they question/ridicule every singe ownership group in a region with NINE championships since 2001, it's bad radio. When the greatest pitcher in Red Sox history is accused of steroid use on his HOF election day, it's bad radio. As sports consumers in one of the country's top markets,  it's not unreasonable, hypersensitive, or rabbit ears-esque to expect a good talk radio product. F&M reach a lot of people, some who even breath through their nose. It's not outlandish to hold the show to a certain standard.

A common refrain in this thread is "If they bother you so much, why do you listen and/or come to the thread to complain?" My question to those folks would be: "Why can't you handle criticism of the show?"

Criticisms aside, I thought it was a good show yesterday. Jones and Keefe are kind of "meh" on their own, but in place of Mazz, they were a breath of fresh air. Tony's absence creates a different (better) Felger as well, who I admit is very good when the trolling is kept to reasonable levels.

I know most of us feel this way, but get rid of Mazz and I'm in. Gasper would be great. Bummer he already has enough commitments.

Edit: And yes, I am on record saying that I was done after the Pedro/PED bit. But I just can't get into afternoons on WEEI.  Dale Arnold makes me sleepy.

This show is so hot and cold... Thursday as stated above I thought Felger was joking around about the footballs, Friday I turned it off because it was more deflated football talk and the Patriots must have cheated ... Click. I turned it off because it was boring and tired radio not because he had the audacity to poop on the Pats.

Here's the thing, I don't live in New England anymore and I wear my Patriots gear everywhere and since they won the Super Bowl not one person has asked me about deflated footballs or tried to give me shit about it, it's been forgotten about or at least no one cares anymore.

ESPN and Felger are the only once I see trying to keep this story relevant and the NFL's own network keeps shitting on ESPN for reporting unsubstantiated rumors.

So when they meet Moncada -- a questionable assumption, I know -- what do they say?

"Sorry for dragging your name through the mud without a scintilla of evidence, but it makes for good radio. Welcome to the big city."

Is that what they say?

Jim. I believe he is the guy that went nuts watching B's/Leafs while on air in Atlanta or something.

By rumor I mean the Corsi/Chad exchange at the top of this page.

This was the moment I remembered yesterday to change the channel.

D&H seem to actually be fans of sports and I prefer a little homer-ism in my sports entertainment.    I think D&H were alluding to this the other day.  They stated everything they talk about is subjective and speculative.  Holey, said something like "Why focus on the negative and worse case scenarios when its all guesswork anyway.  He prefers to error on the hometown side, that it makes better radio."  I tend to agree.

can't wait for them to rip Red Sox after news came out that Cherington got the extension in May

"they win 1 WS and they him a contract extension! unbelievable! We've been number 1 in ratings for a while, we should get an extension!"

this is one day after Mazz hoped their own ratings would plummet so they could ask for contract extensions after finishing in last

This the is the same guy who trashes beat writers for exhibiting a lack of journalistic integrity by being in the tank for the team. Oh, but he's not a journalist, he'll say. What a pathetic cop out.

Whatever, they're playing characters, I know it's silly to get worked up over it. Watch Mazz on that CSNNE baseball show they do and he's completely different person. It's incredible. At this point I consider "Felger and Mazz" to be as much a fictional TV show as The Walking Dead.

I switched to D&H on the day Pedro's HoF induction was announced, an otherwise joyous event they chose to celebrate by essentially accusing him of PED use. Regularly perusing this thread, I have no regrets. Felger has gone from being an amusing, occasionally insightful provocateur to a Bayless level troll. Mazz is, as always, useless. (In fact, I used to love-hate how he'd be straining to make some hare-brained point before announcing "I looked it up, Mike," mistaking the bare minimum his job requires for some extraordinary research effort on his part.)

Felger will do what he did with Mike Cameron a few years ago. Bash him non-stop on his show, but if he actually interviews the guy, completely turtle and ask about the weather.

As a sidebar, the new flash guy blows. Dull, mundane, uninteresting.

Oh, but remember that one time when he worked the graveyard shift for a station in Atlanta when he started going nuts while watching the Bruins beat the Leafs mid-broadcast? Yeah, let's just play clips from that show for an hour to let everyone know how awesome he was!

I actually liked Jim Murray when he was with the station the first time. His delivery is definitely deadpan, but he can be pretty funny. He's local and his sports knowledge is pretty good.

Yeah I remember thinking he was great as a fill in guy. In a perfect world he would trade places with Wallach and be the T&R flash guy since they seem to be friends and have the same type of humor. And then it would just give me even more reason to avoid listening at all 2-6

I like big jim murray, and I think he'll grow into the role
he admitted to being nervous on his first day, and he's got a good self deprecating sense of humour
he's also an unabashed fan of the teams
