Michael Holley started the show making fun of this very point--saying he was PO'd because the Pats have still failed to surround Tom Brady with talent like the Broncos have with Peyton.

Their strategy tends to be to steer into the skid. I expect Felger to address it very early on with his purposely exaggerated impression of a Pats fan calling him out. "HEY FELGER WHOA!"

Then they'll proceed to crapping on Talib and saying that Revis is a better player.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Oh they can ignore it.

Brady sucks at the end of the second quarter all year!? Didn't the Pats score the most points in the last two minutes of the first half this year? God, Mazz fucking sucks.

I disagree, this a legit concern, it was talked about over on BBtL. They have had 4 or 5 terrible giveaways.

Sorry, this is overstating it. Mazz talking about gut reactions and said that the INT at the end of the second quarter gave him agita, and it's happened a lot this year.

Mazz does fucking suck, but not on this point.

It's happened a lot this year? He threw three picks in the second quarter all year(4 including Saturday). What am I overstating?

Edit: Just looked it up and he did it twice.

They have had several end-of-second-quarter breakdowns (three INTs (including Saturday) that led to points for the other team prior to the half, the TD play to Jordy Nelson against the Pack, and the fiasco punt-return and then long TD to the Dolphins), but it seems more coincidental to me than a pattern.  Ironically these are all examples of bad situational football which of course we know BB pounds into their heads all season long, and which they typically excel at.

Here's my whole point: if someone asked me, "What was going through your mind when Brady threw that pick," I would say, "I was freaking out and it reminded me of Indy." I heard Mazz say something along those lines, that it wasn't the first time this year and it freaked him out.

You heard Mazz say something along the lines of 'Brady sucks at the end of the second quarter all year!?' (I know you were paraphrasing, not quoting). That's just not what I heard.

I can't believe I'm defending Mazz. I feel dirty.

Gotcha.

It seemed to me like Mazz was just trying to stir up something to be worried about(end of half Brady).

I didn't freak out after the pick. I didn't think Baltimore would do anything with the ball after the pick. I was wrong, and then I was not happy.

You should feel dirty defending him...even if you're right, which you probably are.

I wasn't too concerned after the pick either. I was pissed that we had a chance to grab the lead knowing we were getting the ball to start the second half - was hoping for a double score and a two score lead.

I don't think Mazz was shit stirring, his concern about the defense is legit and I think a lot of fans had the same thought about the pick.

Can someone post here if they admit it was the right move to let Welker go?

They'll bring it up, but declare they were still right because, if Manning didn't shit the bed, the strategy would have worked.

One of the core principles of the show is that no matter how good a trade or player departure works out for the Pats, if a player goes elsewhere, whether its Welker, Branch Mankins, Seymour, etc... and doesn't perform well (or is sufficiently replaced), that doesn't matter. If said player was on the Patriots they'd be all pro and the Pats would have won the Super Bowl.

As it pertains to Welker specifically, Felger, as he often does these days has structured things such that he is right no matter what happens and he can bash the Pats and the fans for it. He'll bash the Pats relentlessly for letting Welker go and will also bash them for having any desire to resign him. No matter what he wins. One of the worst things on the show.

Mazz is right on Brady's interception. He deserves to get criticized for it.

I believe someone mentioned this in the game thread. Did anyone hear what was said?

After the game Steve Smith Sr. spotted Wiggy near the team bus.  Smith confronted Wiggy about Wiggy's comments from last year about Smith being a bully in the locker room.  According to Bertrand who witnessed the near fight, Wiggy seemed to think Smith was joking around at first and told him you know it's true.  Smith got upset and told Wiggy he wanted to fuck him up.  Bertrand noted Wiggy's wife and 2 young children were nearby. Security, Jojo Lafell and Matt Chatham tried to get in between Smith and Wiggy.  Once there was enough people in between Wiggy and Sr, Wiggy called Smith a bitch and told him he isn't going to do shit.

As far as I know based on Betrand and Zolak's telling of the story, no strikes were landed or even thrown.

Clearly the best way to refute the charge that you are a bully is to go yell at and attempt to fight the person that called you that and tell them you are going to fuck them up.

I don't know what possessed me to do it (Super Bowl euphoria, I guess) but I turned on the CSNNE postgame with Felger, and he's pissing and moaning about the eligible/ineligible formations they used tonight and how "useless" it was to run those when the gameplan should have been hand it off to Blount all night. What a miserable fuck this guy is.

He looked like he had been on the Pats post-game show. He even said he doesn't remember anything about the Pats game (jokingly) and the last 4 hours had been a blur since Green Bay lost.

Has to be so frustrating for them to only have a one hour show on a day like today and to be pre-empted for a meaningless Celtic's game. I'm surprised they can't work anything out on days like this.

Surprised they don't do an online only show on days like this.  Gotta think their show would draw more listeners to the stream than generic CBS Sports radio.

They were on long enough to tell us that:

A)  Yesterday told us nothing about the game in 2 weeks or how good this Patriots team is because the Colts suck.
B)  Felger absolutely believes that Bill had someone dinking around with the gameballs, but it did not alter the outcome of the game.  Tony chimed in that they do not deserve the benefit of doubt when it comes to these things because of Spygate.  Bill brought this on himself.
C)  The NFL will bury this story because Roger is Kraft's bobo.

One thing I've been meaning to mention here for sometime. We're all entitled to change our minds on any variety of things, but am I the only one to notice that Mazz often changes his POV on issues pending on which way the wind blows and prefaces his daily waffling with "You know, the more I think about this..."

Honestly, what Rodgers does has absolutely NOTHING to do with what the Patriots are accused of doing.  Green Bay hands over the balls prior to the game and sometimes the refs notice and sometimes they don't.

The Patriots are accused of tampering with the balls DURING the game.  One is trying to gain an advantage and one is out right cheating.

edit: This isn't to say 100% that something was done, or that BB had anything to do with it, but 11 out of 12 balls? Doesn't look good.

Even though both are accomplishing the same exact thing? Does Rogers get reprimanded when caught cheating?

Do you not the see the difference?

Edit: If Rodgers was over-inflating the balls during the game after the officials let the air out then Yes.  He's never been accused of that though.

Well, it's still about a deliberate attempt to cheat, isn't it?

It is unlistenable, I really have to give it to Beetle who is pushing back and being reasonable.
I'm home sick today and put them on TV but I just can't watch it anymore.

So you know for a fact that Rodgers never reinflated the ball? No, he's never been accused of it and the Pats were.  How many times have the Pats done this? Other teams? Get off your high horse.

A fan of circular arguments are ya?

The Pats were not only accused but so far all evidence (which may not even be correct) shows that the balls were tampered with during the game.  Not sure where I have a high horse.  What you think about other teams, Rodgers, or how many times they did this is not relevant.

where does this fit in with that:
http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4776810/former-official-balls-would-have-been-inflated-at-halftime

Mike Greenberg: “If the balls were checked at halftime and were found to be under-inflated would they then be pumped up to meet regulation at that point, meaning that they then would have played the second half with balls that met regulation? “

Austin: “To my understanding that's what would have occurred. They would have brought the balls back up to the standard.”

Greenberg: “But, you don't know one way or another if they did do that?”

Austin: “I don't know that for a fact, but it would really surprise me if that did not happen. If they brought them in to check them and they are under-inflated, then they are going to inflate them to get them back up to standard.”

It should be noted that the Patriots scored 17 points before halftime and 28 after intermission.

Wait, you're trying to use an interview where both parties are speculating and have nothing to do with the investigation as proof that the Patriots did nothing wrong?

For fucks sake, I'm not saying the Patriots are guilty, for all any of us know Mort's report and his sources are wrong and the balls were faulty.

My initial point was that what Rodgers and Green Bay and probably every single team does is in no way relevant to what the Patriots are accused of doing, which is tampering with balls during the game after they were inspected and found to be in good order.

What part of what I'm saying doesn't make sense?

Brew, you're a moron. The Patriots are the most virtuous, perfect team in the history of ever. They don't cheat, they don't use PEDs and they don't murder people.

I may have finally reached my breaking point with this show.  I've read this thread for a long time and i've always wondered about the people who come in here and say how awful these guys are, and yet they still listen every day.  I think that I have a pretty good understanding of the Felger and Mazz formula: get people pissed off at you just enough.  I've never had a problem with the formula.  It was always such a pleasure to be able to NOT listen to WEEI.

The exchange that Felger had with Beetle yesterday around 3 about deflated footballs and what Patriots fans think about it  was new levels of embarrassing, imo.  Felger has taken years to establish a narrative about BB, the Patriots, and (what I think will be his undoing) Patriots fans.  It's a narrative that he cannot deviate from now.  He doubled-down yesterday and not only put words in Beetle's mouth, in effect he's put words into my (a Pats fan's) mouth.  He may have been doing this for a while, but yesterday was the first time that I really noticed it.  And I took it personally.  I'm not going to call him and yell at him about this.  That's part of the formula.  I've rediscovered that I really like classical music on my radio as I drive.  Click.  Maybe someone at the station will see this and fix it before they really face the same fate as the Big Show.  Beetle would DESTROY them in ratings if he jumped ship.  Anyway, just felt like typing that...

So, what's the opening going to be today?  I think Felger is going to say it doesn't matter what BB said today he knew about it and was lying on the podium.  Mazz is going to agree with him and also say that the league will eventually go soft on the Patriots because Kraft and Goodell are close.
