Ya, that's really bad. All that talk for nothing. Sorry if we still want to ask about the HUGE SCANDAL that just came to light a few months ago. Sorry that inconveniences you, Rocky.

Oof. Swing in a miss. Hard to image this happening in an organization where a guy shouts you down saying we're not going to talk about it.....oh wait.

Meanwhile, guy who tried to answer:

I think that was one of his sons trying to interrupt and save face before Wirtz continues to step in it and make a fool of himself. If this isn’t an example of the old adage of a fish rotting from the head down, then I don’t know what is.

The Vegas cap crunch is on the horizon. Eichel has been skating and recently started practicing with full contact. Cap Friendly says they have to move $4.3 million AAV in order to activate him. Not mentioned in the tweet is that $5.3 million of their current LTIR space is for Alec Martinez who has also resumed skating and nearing a return. In reality, they need to move closer to $10 million to activate both players.

Sounds like Smith and Dadonov right? Smith shouldn't be that hard to move as a rental. Dadonov is going to cost them some picks I would imagine with another year to go.

Those two seem to be the most likely candidates. Dadonov will definitely be tricky because he's got an extra year, isn't that good, and has a 10-team no trade. Smith at least doesn't have any trade protection. He's the kind of guy that normally would be easy to move, but I think their options are going to be limited and they may need to send assets out with him. Vegas can't take money back. The only teams that have the room to fit in Smith without sending money back are by and large the bad ones. What are the bad ones going to do with Smith, a pending UFA? I guess buy at a discount, then retain and sell at a higher rate in a month at the deadline? NYR, Nashville and Anaheim are the 3 playoff teams that could do it. NYR probably doesn't need wingers. Nashville and Anaheim are maybe's. Anaheim's a division rival, if i'm them, I'd tell Vegas to go pound sand. I'm not helping my division rival out of a cap jam unless the pot is sweetened significantly. That leaves Nashville and who knows what they want to do?

Vegas doesn't have a ton of assets either. They don't have their first this year, their 4th this year, or their 2nd this year and their farm system is bottom half (The Athletics rankings had it 22nd). Teams could really hold them over the barrel here, but I'm sure some loser GM will help them out at little to no extra cost for Vegas.

Rocky Wirtz's kid was the one who tried to get the father to shut up and not look like a fool. He is a good guy, went to school locally at BC. BC seems to be the school for hockey owners kids. Wirtz, Jacobs, David Gordon(of fg vs ND fame).

If Drury is smart he takes Smith with a 2nd for future considerations. Weaponize that $35m in deadline cap space. They could probably send out Janmark as well. They really need to more for next year as well. They are already at the cap for 17 players. It's going to be fascinating to see how they pull it off.

Apparently their new head coach is...Martin St. Louis
I think there is going to be an "interim" attached to the hire. Kent Hughes and Marty are really tight-they coach against each other at the U16 level now, with Kent's Eagles team consistently beating up on Marty's Mid Fairfield squad.

Drink it in, folks. Yes, the B's window may be closing, but the Habs are 8-37. Eight and fucking thirty seven.

Their player of the month for January was an ECHL goalie with 1 win and 4 GAA. They are about to start paying Nick Suzuki a higher AAV than what any Bruin made in salary this year. Their only signed defenseman beyond this year wants out and is absolutely dogging it out there. Outside of harassing said player's wife on socials, their fanbase has been demoralized into abject resignation and apathy. Oh, and they still haven't won a Cup in going on 30 years.

The sun is shining a little bit brighter, and the days, they are getting a little bit longer.

Ha! I genuinely thought "...wasn't my post referring to Ducharme's firing?" Then I saw the Tippett tweet. Duh.

They had won 5 of 6 heading into the ASB, but lost 4-0 to Vegas and 4-1 to Chicago coming out of the break. They are 5 points behind Calgary for the 2nd WC and Calgary has a game in hand.

Depth and goaltending are obvious problems. It's something Jeff Marek says all the time, but you never see a coach get fired when the goalie is playing well.

Watching Canadian hockey organizations firing coaches all over the place makes me happy.

Coyotes have approval from Arizona Board of Regents for the development plan at Arizona State. Coyotes new arena for the next three seasons, but also approved for Coyotes to be their after that.
Coyotes will be required to pay all rent and construction costs upfront. Coyotes have had issues paying rent in past and were late on payments in Glendale, this will protect ASU from that.

What a complete and utter joke. Bettman’s approval of this plan speaks volumes as to his reluctance to ever sanction moving them to Quebec City - or any functioning hockey market for that matter.

Make it 8-40. 3 losses to open the Marty St. Louis era.

Hathaway is such a POS. Formenten wasn't even close to playing the puck. DOPS just gave Watson 2 games for interference so I expect the same here. They only factor in a player's previous history when its Brad Marchand or when choosing NOT to suspend Wilson because his history would make it 30 games so they just choose not to suspend him.

It was definitely interference, but It didn't look like a head shot in those replays. It looked like his head bounced because the shot from the side was unexpected. I'm not sure DOPS *should* be in on that one. (Hathaway does remain a POS, however).

Head or not, it was a blind side hit away from the puck with no bearing on the play. DOPS absolutely should be in on that.

I agree with Logansdad - its a dirty hit on a completely unsuspecting player. He should sit.

Habs get a 1st, 5th, Tyler Pitlick and prospect Emil Heineman for Toffoli. Toffoli has 2-years left at $4.25 AAV.

View: https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1493279396953743364?s=20&t=pt47PsZEYhba-BHaaxrMGw

The first is in 2022 and top 10 protected. The 5th is in 2024. Heineman was 7th on Wheeler's ranking of Calgary's prospects (farm system ranked 16th). He was a second round pick in 2020 by Florida that was traded to CGY in the Sam Bennett trade.

I think this works on both sides. Toffoli is a reliable scorer signed to a reasonable contract. Calgary is nipping on Vegas' heels and the rest of that division is pretty bleh so there's an opportunity to make a run. Trading a 1st always stings, but a controlled Toffoli is probably a better use of a 1st than a higher end rental.

Montreal clears a long term committment off the books and adds two picks and a prospect they're apparently high on. They have 2 first round picks coming up, one of which is likely top 2. They'll probably add a bunch more picks between now and the deadline.

Where I am on this as well - should be a game or two, if only to discourage predatory garbage like this from bums like Hathaway who toe the Matt Cooke line

Speaking of DOPS, Watson got two games for the Ahcan hit. Not sure that I saw that posted anywhere. Guess they disagreed with the call on the ice (he said, facetiously).

Eichel is going to debut for the Golden Knights on Wednesday.

Mark Stone is indeed headed to LTIR with a mysterious back injury. Color me stunned if he's not miraculously healed just in time to lace them up for game 1 of the playoffs.

While it's very bullshitty that Stone is going on LTIR - I'm really looking forward to seeing those two play together. Excited to finally have the Eichel saga behind him. Hopefully he kicks some ass out there and comes home in 4 years.

Perhaps Dom was referring to this? Trading Ritchie and a 2nd for Dzingel and Lyubushkin. I don't know enough about the Coyotes players in that deal to comment, but jettisoning Ritchie has to be a bit of addition-by-subtraction.
that’s not nearly as funny. Jettisoning Ritchie, even for a limited player, is decidedly not funny.
