There's a lot of potential for upheaval in the standings over the next few weeks. The Caps have gone 4-6-0 in the last ten, and are only a point ahead of PIT with the Penguins having two games in hand right now. Meanwhile, the divisional 3rd seeds in the East look tumultuous as well. The Islanders are back in the 3rd spot in the Metro, but the Blue Jackets, Flyers, and Canes are all within 2 points of them. The Leafs are barely holding on to the Atlantic 3rd seed, only two points ahead of the Panthers, who have a game in hand. And the entire West looks wide open, especially the Pacific which has five teams all between 68-70 points (Oilers, Knights, Canucks, Flames, and Coyotes). In the Central, you have the Blues (74), Stars (74), and Avalanche (73) all ready to trade places. (Though Colorado's been hit with some major injuries lately.)

Then, of course, is also the race for best record, which has been noted here has gotten a lot more interesting here thanks to the resurgent Lightning.

It should be a fun next 6-7 weeks.

Pens beat the Leafs 6-1 the first time they played. It's 4-0 Pens halfway through the 2nd tonight. Must be something in the black and gold....

5-0 on an awesome goal about 10 seconds after killing an extended 5 on 3. 3 goals on 3 shots in the 2nd.

Wonder if the Leafs give Campbell a run. I’m an Andersen defender but he has struggled most of this year.

Flyers getting the luck tonight in their quest to move up the standings. Their first goal went off of a Columbus skate and off the back of Merzlikins into the goal. Then Couturier pulled a Kucherov-on-Holtby for their second. Their third was another off the skate of a defender, and their fourth was a double deflection in front. Up 4-1 now.

If Bruins fall to #2, are the Panthers jumping over Toronto a best case of a bad outcome?
To my eyes, the Panthers and Leafs are very similar teams. Explosive offenses that rely heavily on their goaltending to bail out their awful defense. Florida has had ample opportunity to take 3rd away from Toronto in the Atlantic, but they've gone 3-6-1 in their last 10 games.

I really wish the Bruins could've got Stone. He's exactly what they need.
He's exactly what a lot of teams need, what a great player.

I remember when Tampa was fun to watch. When did they turn so fucking dirty? Nice to see the refs finally calling some stuff against them tonight, at least.

Another shining example of the worst fucking penalty as Eakin inadvertently bats the puck out of mid-air over the glass.

I dunno, I've always felt they've had that element to them. They used to have Gudas, and still have Paquette.

Edit: oh yeah, and Gourde.

Between here and everywhere.
EMERGENCY GOALIE SITUATION!!!

42 year old emergency goalie in net for Carolina vs Toronto.

It was 4-1 when he first came in. It’s 4-3 in favor of Carolina now.

Somehow, in a season where the Bruins have the most points in the league through 62 games, the Leafs losing to a minor league zamboni driver might be my favorite thing.

Moving the Line
Ayres was at the place to be.

Holy shit that was as good a fun time as I’ve had with hockey ever, personal or just watching, at any level. Leafs media is a mess anyway but this is about to be next level thermonuclear war. Wow.

only 7 SOG in a full period against a literal warm body at net... that's just coaching incompetence, right?

Similar to that guy who fought Gerbe last night, it’s an absolute no-win situation you don’t want to be in. Not making excuses for the Leafs, but I’m sure the situation got in their heads.
